Yep! Filled my tank today...cost $42 for about the same amount I've been paying $35 for! Bought a few groceries that I had coupons for....all the coupons did was take the price back to where it had been about 3 wks. ago!

I had someone tell me that, they are countering the inflation equation, with the reduction in price for electronics. Mostly computers and big screen TV's. So while you pay more for essentials The Big Boy toys are costing less.

Same could be said for Real Estate prices? Most have been in a decline also.

Gasoline jumped 10 cents a gallon to $3.24 here. Everything will go up because of that. I don't know what Sam's Club is charging.

As gas prices rise, fewer people shop for the non-necessities, inventories rise, retailers put things on sale. We'll pay more for some things, less for others.

Pat, how do you keep the weevils from all your flour? I just threw away 10# that had been in the freezer and I had taken it out - it was full of weevils. I wouldn't mind storing flour if I could store it safely.

I keep flour in the freezer all the time & never have any problems.
Back when I worked retail grocery stores...that was how we killed any bug infestations that got brought into the store. Take all the affected merchandise, put it on a pallet & put the pallet in the freezer for 24 hrs. Worked on bugs in flour (not sure if they were weevils) and on mealy moths in dog/cat food! Oh, and on something that came in in popcorn once.
Yeah, you just never know what you might be eating. And this was back in the 70's so laws/practices may have changed now.
patstab...I have a GREAT recipe for corn in butter sauce (frozen) if you decide to grow some. Also, a little tip, cutting corn off the cob...an electric knife is wonderful!

This was flour that had been in the freezer since purchase and out in the cabinet for less than a week! It was totally infested! I do realize that the bugs/weevils are already there is some form and it isn't that they get into the flour from an outside source (yuck!) but really, less than a week after being frozen for several months. And it was a bag that hadn't been opened yet. I had that happen to corn meal also.
Pat, we did just replace our freezer but it wasn't a self defrosting one. So, maybe it jsut wasn't keeping things as cold as it should but it sure was freezer burning my meat!

Our gas is at 3.34 and I live in a LC area. Of course our taxes are higher than most. I'm not sure we can be prepared for all of the inflation. It's complex. Hopefully we can end up keeping our heads above water. Who can tell? I'm just waiting to see when it happens. We can stop them short if we don't buy certain items. I'd like to see a systematic 'sit in' on food items. For 2 weeks no one buy lettuce, then go on to another item then continue. It would send a message that we won't put up with it. But people don't like to deny themselves so maybe we get what others - the masses- are asking for. It seems to me the population is the only ones who can change what is happening. And who can change them? Us?

I have a friend who's husband was an engineer. When they lived in Saudi Arabia for several years, the bugs that got into their flour & cornmeal just became another source of protein. When I lived in Mexico, I'd sift them out.
Today, our gas was $3.26 (of course, everyone forgets about the ever present .9, so it's actually $3.27). I haven't bought lettuce for a while....at least two weeks. There are lots of other vegetables I can eat.
