I need to figure out a way to get music more portable in/around my house. We have a pretty sweet surround sound system in the family room but I'd like to be able to listen to music in the basement/shower/maybe outside on the deck.
They make wireless speakers. We have wi-fi set up at our house.
Any suggestions?

We just bought my dad a braven speaker system for christmas. We haven't listened to it yet but it gets good reviews. It is blue tooth wireless and works with his ipad, it is also portable and rugged for $299.99 on amazon. My DH is a audiophile and we have speakers and all sorts of wireless playing options in the house that I can barely use because it's complicated to me

We have the JamBox. It's frigging awesome! It's the perfect bluetooth speaker. It fits in my purse and it sounds great.

I love music but I'm not an expert on the quality of the products. I checked out the Bose systems not too long ago. They're not inexpensive, but I like their sound and they seem easy to set up and use for someone like me that doesn't know what they're doing. They have different systems ranging from one speaker or multiple speakers for the entire house. I haven't actually bought anything yet.
I think the first thing to do is figure out how much you're willing to spend and what exactly you want. The options seemed endless when I was checking things out. That's probably why I left it alone for a while, I quickly got overwhelmed.

I don't know much about wireless speakers, or large scale speakers in general as my house isn't all that big. but for portability (for showers, bathroom) jambox definitely. a couple of my hockey teammates have them and the pre-game locker room tunes sound awesome.

My house isn't big either. That's one of the things I like about the Bose speakers, they're small but they have big, full sound. Even the SoundDocks (portable, but not small enough to fit in a purse) sound good and have a lot of volume if you like your music loud.

I bought a set of these at Kmart called "ILive". They are blue tooth wireless speakers. I use my smart phone and i have several radio and music stations saved into my phone. Then i just bring the phone over to my speakers and turn on the bluetooth on my phone and i pairs up with the speakers. Works great. And, you can unplug these speakers and take them anywhere in the house where you have a plug. They were only about $50.

Pricey, but impressive. Do you have the system?

I take my little system from room to room. And, now my kids started borrowing it too. For $50 you can't beat it.

i have a wired system but a few years ago when i worked for a home integrator these were popular systems...we'll be moving in the next few months and i'll be investing in sonos instead of fooling with having to wire a place... there are cheaper solutions with bluetooth options but sonos is more of a true whole home audio solution...

We started out with one Play three when they were running a free router promotion.
Loved that one so much we bought another one a week later!
I'm totally stoked. Still discovering new latin jazz stations from - LATIN AMERICA, Andean fusion, literally 1000's of radio stations to choose from. I've listened to music from France, Italy, Poland, Spain, and Germany to name a few countries.
It's WAY worse/better then being a kid in a candy store!!!
I've only begun to scratch the surface. The sound quality on the speaker is friggin amazing and the programming/station access is truly the icing on the cake.
The fact that I was able to download the app to my laptop and figure out how to use it speaks volumns to how good the programming is. It is truly intuitive.
Again, thanks!

The OP's question did not seem to be seeking a way to connect speakers to a portable music source. I would think that any bluetooth speakers would have to be very close to the music source. I thought the OP was looking for a way to pipe the music from his stereo system to other rooms in the house or to a deck for instance. I would not think that would work via only bluetooth speakers. If the stereo system is playing music stored on a computer or other device connected to the wireless router, then I would think any other device that could access the stored music through the router would work. Then, that device could be connected to blue tooth speakers if it supports that function. Sorry if I am misunderstanding.
