The movers arrived yesterday with 5800 lbs of my stuff from KY. Boxes were unloaded into the living room, the basement and the garage to be unpacked.
Today, I'm sitting at my computer working on my thesis and notice that there is a box that I do not recognize. It's a box that is the same size as my 46" Sony flat screen TV and I only have one. Hmmmm......only problem is that I can't get to it and need to wait until TD gets home to help me move boxes.
Inside is what looks like a 50" flat screen Panasonic TV, in what looks like excellent shape. Not my TV, no moving number was on the box. We partially packed it back up (it's going to have to be professionally packed again in order to move it) and I called the mover.....who is somewhere between Seattle and Texas (which was his next haul) to let him know. He's not happy.
Someone's missing their big screen TV. They're probably not going to be happy either.

I'd I ended up with an extra TV? Yes.

Yes, I'd call. I just don't want someone else's possession because I think about how sad I would be if I lost mine.

I would call. You are right someone is not happy at all and I wouldn't want it to be me.

I'd definitely call - that's a large ticket item someone's paid good money for and probably frantic about - and it's probably also fairly new.
I believe in Karma - and keeping it would inevitably probably come back to bite you in the behind big-time. Without reporting it to the movers, they'd also probably be liable for replacing a lost or misdirected item.

If you keep it you will go to a special hell.....One reserved for child molesters & people who talk on phones in movie theaters. (Anybody get that reference?).

I don't know if I would call. I wouldn't keep the TV (for many reasons), but I am so freaking tired of dealing with other people's mistakes, OMG, I am soooo tired of it that I don't know if I would call.

I would call. I also think about how I would feel if I was the one missing the TV.

For Sure. The mover lost several of my boxes 25 years ago. I'm still ticked off that whoever ended up with them didn't turn them in or notify the movers. Its stuff that would not have great value or meaning to anyone else. Might be that the packers stole thing as they sucked big time.

I hope so. Every inventory tag got crossed off the list as it came into the house. I've not yet begun to unpack though. I'm hoping the unpacking fairies show up tonight while I am sleeping. The thing that ticks me off was that every single item on my inventory list was marked that it was scratched, worn, chipped and stained when they put it onto the truck. However, my bike was not scratched. My washer and vacuum I bought about 2 weeks before I got sick. I think my vacuum was used exactly once before it got put in the truck last week. I guess it was the mover's way of covering their ass.

Yes, I'd call. It isn't mine so I really couldn't just keep it. I'd figure, with my luck, it was given to some poor, struggling young couple by parents who scrimped and saved to buy the darned thing!

I'd call and let them know.
I feel your pain Lena. It seems like that's all I do since I moved to this damn state is fix someone else's screw ups. No one seems to give two hoots about doing a job and doing it well. And getting people to fix their mistakes seems to take forever and a whole lot of my time spent riding their asses to get it done.

I'd call. I've moved so many times, so I feel the pain of whomever is missing that TV. I will admit that it is tempting not to, but I'd call.

I'd call. I've only hired paid movers once and it was enough to convince me I never want to do it again!

I'd call. I got an email this morning from one of my credit cards that I pay online. "We recieved a payment of $xx.xx that was deposited into your account. If you did not make this payment, please call...." I was just thinking, would I call if a payment just showed up in may account Probably, because I think the company would eventually figure it out. I did make the payment btw.

I'm not boxing it up, I'm not sending it anywhere, I'm not making a point to be home at a certain time for pickup, etc.

So Mich, what did the mover say when he "wasn't happy"? Is there a plan for them to get the TV? Or what?

I've had instances where I did have to do something or I would have been out money. For example I moved between apartments in the same complex. Comcast said I could do it myself no installation needed. Well the morons shipped me another box and modem to the new apartment. I had to return them or I would have been charged for them. And the Comcast office for Baltimore city is not in what we call a good part of town!

I would definitely call. I moved a few years ago and I wasn't as diligent at monitoring the movers bringing in boxes as I should have been. I missed a box on the inventory list, and I'm sure it is in a landfill. It sucks, because that box had a few of our framed engagement picture in it. I hope someone doesn't have them on their wall.
I called the moving company and asked them about it, but they said there was nothing they could do. I was mad, but mostly at myself for missing that line on the inventory form. I can't really say it was their fault.

So Mich, what did the mover say when he "wasn't happy"? Is there a plan for them to get the TV? Or what? He said he'd call me back and let me know what is going to happen. Last night, we went up to BC for dinner so my cell was turned off. No call, nor nothing in voice mail when I got back last night. So as of this morning, I have no idea what he is going to do. Not sure it would be worth someone driving a rig several hundred miles for him to come back and pick it up, and not sure if they could ship something like this out, and if it would be worth the cost. Wonder if the company will just eat the cost and file with insurance. At this point, there is already 2 large screen TVs in this house and a couple of smaller ones (not including my larger, flat screen monitor which can be also used as a TV. We really don't need any more TVs. FWIW......this has been one of the smoothest moves I have made EVER. When I did the research, the difference in costs between a professional mover doing everything vs me was only about $500 (and physically, I really can't do much still with regards to lifting boxes). My movers guaranteed the price after the estimate, they showed up to pack when they said they would, they showed up to move my stuff onto the truck when they said they would. They showed up here earlier than I had expected (I was told they'd be here today but wound up getting here Monday). Other than this SNAFU with the extra TV, everything has gone perfectly.....which kind of scares me because things in my life tend to screw up somehow!

You are ticked off at the wrong person, you should be ticked off at movers, not whoever "got" your boxes. It's not their job or responsibility to fix other people's errors.

Didn't you go through your inventory list before you signed off on it? I had a list of numbers that corresponded to those stickers that were put on my boxes and furniture. As the boxes were moved into the house, I made sure I saw every number (I am still not sure how the TV box got in) and checked it off of the list. It was a huge pain in the ass (particularly since I had to be up and moving and my joints weren't very happy about it), but every number on the list was accounted for and if it wasn't checked off, I went looking for it. When the truck was empty, there were only 3 numbers that were not checked off and those were heavy boxes/furniture (they put 2-3 numbers on heavier furniture or boxes).
