My cell phone provider keeps asking me what my first school was as my secret question, in order to provide me with information about my account.
This drives me nuts. I DON'T KNOW. Ask me my dad's middle name, town I was born in, mom's maiden name......those I know. But for some reason, Sprint can't get it in their brain that someone wouldn't know what their first is. Well, ok....I can understand that some people do know this info, but I was enrolled in 13 different elementary schools in 7 years of school.
For some reason, I cannot get them to change this question. Anyone else run into this?

I haven't run into that. Why do they need my SSN # for a cell phone? ? Can you just make up a school name, doubt they'd check anyhow.

Not really. If she can't recall the real name of one of the schools, why would she want to make one up and hope she never has to provide it?

Every time I've had to have a security question, there is usually a list of "appropriate" questions to choose from. Like your favorite pet, or first grade teacher's name, or your first car... I've never heard of asking an off-the-wall (not the standard, mother's maiden name) question with no backup. Have you tried speaking with an actual person?

If you answered the question originally it might be a little more difficult to change it. If you are required to put an answer and haven't done it yet, maybe just do "elementary school" as an answer if you think you'll remember that. My elementary school is easy to remember the name, but spelling it is a different story. If they don't allow punctuation I end up spelling out "Colonel" and I always spell it wrong! So then I have to remember if I ever spelled it right to begin with, or if I just abbreviated without punctuation...

Hell, WHICH first pet? And if I can't remember my first school, do they think I'd remember the name of my first teacher? Do people really remember their teacher's name?
The person won't speak to me without answering this question! I keep tell them that they MUST change the question.

I truly do not know my first school, so I NEVER could have answered it. However, they insist that I have. I tell them that I do not know, have the question reset (I think it's supposed to be my first car) and it ALWAYS reverts back to first school.

Any time I give a fake name, I have to remember that fake name. Since it's not something that's inherent in my memory and I'd have to remember a lie. That's just too difficult.

mich1 you are making the situation soo much harder than it really is. I can understand not remembering the real answer I can understand a company not giving you choices for your security question I can understand that maybe your internet connection is so slow, that it takes to long to click 'I forgot my password" option but I would think your first answer to the question as your first reaction you can remember. like entering your mothers name is a good suggestion
