after fighting with various areas of Verizon for about a week, I've finally been given the ok to move on from my "lemon" Samsung phone. my available upgrade date has been changed to today, per the phone conversation I just had with the VP of Customer Service. I wasn't expecting to be looking for a new phone until next Feb, so I have no idea what's out there now. I am staying with Verizon, and I want an Android OS again. I have zero interest in an iPhone of any flavor, or a Crackberry. recommendations, please and thank you!

I have one. I don't know which model, but I think it's a DNA?
I like it. It's smarter than me.

It is slightly an older phone, so probably not even on your list, but avoid the HTC Incredible 2. I had the first one replaced under warranty & the second one is now falling apart on me. I know someone else that has one & is having all the same issues. The outside case starts to fall off, the battery sensor goes bad, it turns itself off all the time, & areas of the touchscreen stop working. 35 more days & I can replace it.
What is sad is the original HTC Incredible was awesome. I never had any issues with that phone at all, which is why I upgraded to the Incredible 2.
I had originally wanted the HTC DNA as a replacement. But, now that I have had my 2nd Incredible 2 fall apart, I am really wondering about getting another HTC phone.

I have the Samsung Note II and love it. Samsung's don't seem to get great reception though.

I have a Samsung Galazy Note 2 and it has a HUGE screen and built in stylus. I am actually waiting for the Samsung Mega to come out cuz that is the size of a tablet. The note has a very nice size screen but fits in your pocket or a purse. Check it out.

interesting. I heard great things about the original Incredible, too bad the sequel sucked. I had the Eris (the model before) and liked it, way back before my lemon Nexus (the first in the Samsung Galaxy series)
anne, isn't the Note a big thing, like an iPad?

Swamp, I found the DNA - it's an HTC. that's a possibility.
my friend works in sales w/VZ and he's pushing the S4 (Samsung) but I'm kind of leery of the whole line right now with the problems I've had with the various Nexus phones I've cycled through over the past year+

I don't know if they even make it anymore, but if you see an LG Revolution - stay far, far away! (My contract is up in July and I am counting down the days). It constantly shuts itself off, the navigation doesn't work, it is slooooooow (even after installing the app killer) and all around a giant POS.
Several of my friends have the Samsung Galaxies and all love them, but I"m not sure any have had them for more than 6 months or so - I'm not sure when the "bugs" start to come out.

I have the Galaxy S3 and love it. My only complaint is it's actually a little TOO big. DH says the same thing. It's not a phone you can just put in your pocket.
But as far as functionality, it's awesome.

It's pretty big. About 5 inches. I read a lot of email and news so I like the bigger screen and it's usually in my purse anyway.
Shooby - DH really wants the Mega but I think he said they were only releasing them in Europe.

I've had nothing but good from Samsung over the years. I'm on my fifth or sixth model at this point (had a cell since 2001). I finally replaced my Galaxy S1 last month with the Galaxy S3 and I love it!

We are getting the Galaxy S3 this week. We have a basic Samsung smartphone right now and HATE it! I don't even know what it is called...it is just pretty much the cheapest one. After a year of having this horrible phone I just cannot take it anymore...so we are upgrading to the S3. The reviews seem to be pretty good for it. I like a bigger phone.
Iphone is out of the question here, they are ridiculously priced here in Italy.

Well said! My Dinc lasted me 3+ years and is still functional. I really wanted 4G though, so I finally bought a phone off CL.

taz, I went with the S4. my only complaint about it is that a Groupon showed up in my inbox a couple days after I bought the S4 - a Verizon-compatible S3 for $10. I'm still getting used to it, there's quite a bit that's different from the Nexus I had before.

One of my co-workers is really pushing the iPhone, which I really don't want... I've also been contemplating the Droid Razr Maxx HD by Motorola too. DH has the Droid DNA by HTC, but I don't think I want that one. The Pantech Perception also has caught my eye too. Decisions, decisions, decisions... FWIW, I didn't know I was getting my last phone (HTC Thunderbolt) until DH surprised me with it at work on the day he bought his. I liked it when it first came out; however, it's been giving me issues for the past few months and I'm done. Also, this is a belated birthday present to me anyway.

Both are freaking awesome, his is slightly awesomer.

drat! I'm too late! I would have suggested: think about what features you actually use think about the size and weight how do you usually carry your cell, in a purse or belt clip, both are you into the sliding keyboard or the screen is good enough these would narrow down the selection, then once you have a final 2 or three look up reviews. tho people reviews will mostly post complaints, I looked at if the complaints are the same thing. say for example battery life. doesn't mean that you will have the same complaints, but I think it's good to see what people are complaining about. before I got my focus flash, I was ready to click the purchase button on a HTC phone. but I read the 7 complaints...ummm reviews! 2 were good / positive reviews; 5 were complaints and mostly had the same complaints. Best Wishes with your new assistant S4! and don't get upset when the new new newer version comes out in the next 2 seconds!

Well, I did end up getting the Samsung Galaxy 4S and I really do like it. I got it at Best Buy Mobile and saved more money than at the Verizon store itself! Highly recommend. I don't need to wait for my $50 mail-in rebate and I was able to get a $50 Best Buy gift card to use towards my phone purchase! Excellent!! However, my complaint so far is with the camera. All pictures look blurry even though I'm holding the camera still...
