Pedro Quezada claimed the fourth-largest Powerball jackpot in history on Tuesday – and now the Passaic County Probation Department wants a slice. The 44-year-old former bodega owner owes $29,000 in child support and has an outstanding warrant in his name, according to a statement issued by Passaic County Sheriff Richard Berdnik. usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/03/28/17504063-winner-of-338-million-powerball-jackpot-owes-29000-in-child-support?liteI hope he owes because his business failed.(Former bodega owner) It will be interesting to see how it affects his child support payments going forward.
Anyone have any idea the likely impact of future child support payments might be? Should Mom request a lump sum payment in court as the winnings might be gone in 5 years if he follows the path of average lump sum lottery winners?

He'll be required to use it to pay his back child support (assets that can be attached), however, it's not income so it won't figure into his child support payment amount.

yay for the mom who gets the back child support!
Ughh...I'd be annoyed if it meant that he didn't have to pay additional child support.

Since its going to be classified as income in whichever year he gets his lump sum I think it should count for income for that year at least. I wonder if that means Mom would need to use some of that $29K to go to court to get a portion of his income for that year only?
