I met my DH playing adult Slow-Pitch Softball. We had met a few times before another couple encouraged us to go on a date. We have been together 8 years now and married for 6.

We knew each other from work but didn't really talk until a TDY trip that involved vehicular tutlecide, lots of wine, and tornados

Online Dating Site: He was in charge of getting his squad-mate to and from work when his license was suspended so his friend made him an online dating profile. I lost a bet with a co-worker/friend (she was in our wedding) and had to give online dating a 6-month try as per the terms. Just after his birthday (and the day i got home from Hawaii) he asked me for a date. We're married now My parents are funny; they have 2 different versions of the first time they met. I have no clue who is right: Dad: He physically ran into an art student in the basement of the State Uni when he was there researching a project. 10 years later then were reintroduced by a mutual friend. Mom: Dad walked in on her debugging a program when he was at the college where she worked signing up for continuing ed classes. He then proceeded to make a snarky remark and register for her class!

We met in grad school. It was my third year, his first (he worked for 10 years prior whereas I went straight from undergrad), and we happened to be in the student lounge at the same time. We struck up conversation about baseball, and things went from there. We had that year together and then had to do long distance for 2 years, but we made it work. He graduated in '09 during the depths of the recession, and moved out with me. It took him a year to find a job, and then he proposed a few months later. We've been together 7 years, married 1.

Seems most long term marriages started young, or as 2nd marriages past the 30's. Like the typical late 20's/early 30's models are the ones that break up? maybe younger marriage there is an expectation of growing together, by 40 you are who you are, but that those who hook up mid way between often don't grow in the same direction.... I don't think that is statistically true. I remember reading once that first marriages of people who met and married in their mid- to late- 20's statistically last longer than ones who start dating and marry in their teens and early 20's. But, of course, I don't recall the source. Here is a site that seems to say that marrying between 20 and 24 is a danger zone. Of course, that is probably because that is when most people get married, so it would make sense that most of the divorces come from most of the marriages. Ah, statistics - they are tricky. www.divorcestatistics.org/

We knew each other from work but didn't really talk until a TDY trip that involved vehicular tutlecide, lots of wine, and tornados And he learned that he should really drive when you say I don't want to drive. Statistics are hard. It could be that's when most people get married. I think growing up some can be helpful. My grandpa always told us not to get married before 25. I almost did and it would have been a train wreck of epic proportions.

We got married a month after my husband's 25th birthday. So, technically, we are okay. [/span]

We met while pretending to be vampires. I don't remember much of him from the troop game, but when we joined the Cam, most people stayed with the troop game and only a few joined and started playing Cam. (I actually played in both games). At the time, C and J lived near each other and neither drove, so when someone gave one a ride, they gave both a ride. So for the first few months, I only ever saw them together and my friend Jen and I had no idea which one was C and which was J. I didn't start dating C until a few years later, though. First I dated S (who was one of C's long time friends, and later best man at our wedding). Then I dated N, who I only met because he came to the game store C and another friend owned to hang out with C. (We still hang out with N when we're back in Reno.) After N and I broke up, C told me he was in love with me. That would have been summer 1999. We didn't really start dating until Jan 2000, though. Got married Labor Day 2003. Still going strong.
(for @tbird's accounting- we got married at 27/29 years of age. and remember, all those people who are having successful second marriages, it's because they likely had unsuccessful first marriages that they entered into when they were young)

I met DH in our tech school after Basic Training. He was a "rope" meaning slightly in charge and I came in new and needed him to get me my bedding and towels out of the supply closet. You don't have much freedom in the early weeks of tech school and my tech school was only 4 weeks long. If you wanted to go to the BX or something you had to have a "rope" go with you during the first week or two. So DH and I spent every afternoon after our classes walking the long way to the BX at Lackland AFB.
I finished my training and went home for a short leave before moving to my duty station in Alaska. DH got assigned the same station (fluke as neither of us had Alaska down on our short list). So after he finished his training he flew to MN and we drove to Alaska together. His orders got screwed up and he ended up with the same report date as me even though it should have been like 2 weeks later than mine. We figure it was fate.
We met mid Feb, drove to Alaska in early April and eloped in August. They said it would never last. We've been married for over 16 years.
My mom was on a date with my dad's younger brother (one year younger than him). My uncle behaved like an asshat and my dad drove my mom home and they started dating. They went to my dad's senior prom together and have been together ever since. It will be 44 years this summer.
DH's mom and real dad meet when he was a pilot for the Marines and she was a Department of Defense teacher. He would land at her base and randomly kick things in his cockpit until something broke to buy him enough time to spend time with her. They married after a few months. However, he passed when DH was 5 and she has been married a few times since then. She met her current DH while they were both drunk at a hotel bar in town on business. They were both cheating on their current spouses so it was just supposed to be a fling. They ended up divorcing their respective spouses and marrying each other. We very rarely talk to them but I assume they are still married. Happy to report we haven't seen them since I think 2008.

DH and I married on my 21st birthday. He was 23.
My parents got married when my dad was 21 and my mom was 20
The current In Laws (MIL and her current spouse) got married when she was in her mid 50's and he was in his early 60's?

I was dating a guy in college, but he dropped out after sophomore year so it was a long distance relationship. But as much as I liked him, I knew I really didn't want to marry him, so I kept my eyes open. At the beginning of my senior year, I was reading magazines in the library and a friendly fellow (DH) sat down and chatted with me. We made a date to walk downtown for pizza the next evening. The rest is history. My long-distance boyfriend dumped me, but I can't say I was broken-hearted. I don't know how long it took for me to really get serious about DH. At first I thought he would be a better fit for my younger sister (turns out my sister is gay, so that wasn't going to work!). It's funny - I wasn't sure at first that I wanted to marry my husband. I don't think I ever went through the infatuation phase with him like I did with previous boyfriends. It was more of a friendship which grew into love. But then I realized that I really did love him and he's a very good person and I'm so glad we did get married. It's been 36 very nice years.

We met at work. It was about 18 months before we started dating. It was at least a year before the thought of being interested in each other even entered either of our heads. He had to work hard to convince me to go out on a date with him.
This is a second marriage for us both.
