Well honey, I broke a 12 year old girls nose, and one of my star players somehow twisted an ankle running in a straight line from the batter's box to first base. Other than that, it was ducky. Technically I didn't break the nose. She was playing catch with another girl and missed a ball. Came straight over her glove and into her face. Actually I'm not sure you can call it playing catch. It was the very first throw of practice. If you take the first ball in the nose and never throw it back, you never really played catch.
Now I get to fill out incident forms for the insurance company. Just how I wanted to spend my lunch break.

If this were a Klingon team, only one broken nose would constitute a slow day.

It's starting to feel that way. On Monday my starting pitcher jammed a finger on her throwing hand during ground ball drills. Last week my first basemen/backup catcher got slid into at home while playing catcher and dislocated her thumb. The girl who broke the other girls nose yesterday had a ball take a bad hop on Monday and hit her in the throat during the same ground ball drills that got my pitcher's hand.
How many incident forms do you think I can submit to the league before they call CPS on me?

Maybe you should coach Hunger Games style events. It may be safer for the team members than softball.

From the person who just volunteered to coach, again. Because I'm on the flat learning curve. Do you have any extra copies of those forms?

LMAO!! I know this is bad but I totally want to see videos of this team in action. It kind of sounds hilarious if not for the pain parts!

I'm guessing no coach of the year award for Dark.

I coached coed wrestling before this, in the same age group, and I don't remember a single injury that whole season. Well... bumps and bruises naturally, but nobody left a practice or meet headed for the ER. Figuring out my lineup for this weekends games should be much easier now though. If I can hurt one more of them I'll only have 9 and won't have to listen to a single complaint or see a dirty look because somebody's daughter isn't getting to play the full game. Hmm....

On game day they're all fine. I've had one single scraped knee by a girl while sliding into third, that's it. At practice though... fuck a duck... I'm going to have to start bringing an ice chest because I can't afford to keep buying those chemical instant ice packs.

I'm not really a baseball fan but tell me if you catch the ball with your face does it count as a catch?

We have never had a kid need to go to an ER but we have had lots of bumps and bruises. I am not sure the ice pack was even needed but it makes them feel better for some reason. I keep some ice packs in a cooler along with some extra water bottles. I still don't get sending your kid to play soccer in 80 plus heat with no water.

Only if you have quick enough reflexes to grab it after it bounces off your face and keep it from hitting the ground. The odds on that are pretty low since you let it bounce off your face in the first place.

Make sure your pitcher is wearing that heart protecter. For real.

Freeze some of the water bottles to use as ice packs.

Not my call. ASA and local league rules don't require chest or face guards. I can recommend that my pitchers wear them if they don't want to go through life with a busted face due to a single line drive but I can't force them.
