Gas pedal. I once went to buy a used car from a private party and there was no gas pedal. Who loses the gas pedal?? My must have is AC.. My wants include electric door locks, clock, light near the rear-view mirror and cup holders for the back seat passengers.

It's funny, the little things that matter. My one quirk is headlights that turn off when you turn the car off, instead of beeping at you. Seriously? My '98 Camry had that. Why did 3/4 of the new cars I test drove in 2011 not? DH's is stereo volume that changes with the speed of the car.

I really like leather seats. I think they are often a bit more comfy. I really, really like a heated seat. And, power windows. The rest of the stuff i can take or leave.

Leather, heated seats, Bluetooth, XM, navigation, moon roof, third row fold away seats, aux/iPhone input, auto dimming rear view mirror, defrost side view mirrors, big cup holders! I know, I am a car snob.

It is a lot to expect from the $5000 low mileage, well-crafted, late model unicorns we are all supposed to drive.

I'm surprised at how many of you mentioned keyless entry. I've got that, but it never seemed particulary important to me. In years past the only time having to use the key was a pain was when my vehicle wasn't kept in a garage and a few times a year, I'd have to use deicer on the lock before I could unlock the door.

Spartan I forgot that my Headlights that auto turn off were on my list too. I am not sure if DH's BMW dosn't have them or if he just dosn't know what they do, but I hate driving his car! Money Maven, yeah, I had those heated side mirrors on my must have list too.

I will say that I don't need the headlights to turn off automatically, but I do need to make sure there is at least a little warning bell. Not because I leave my lights on, but my husband's car has auto-lights, so if I bought a car without the auto-light and without a bell, every time he drove it at night, we would need a jump.

My keyless entry is broken (did I mention I drive a POS) and it is no big deal for just me. It would be a pain if I had to take the kids in my car....but considering the car is 2-door there are things that would be a much bigger pain if I had to take the kids in my car. But my husband's keyless clicker for the car still works. Over the weekend, DS grabbed DH's keys off the table and took the keys to the garage door and started locking the car because he liked the sound it made!

It is a pain (for me) not to have keyless entry - especially in those dreary winter months when the key slot decides to freeze and you can't lock or unlock the car!

The dead hooker in the trunk. Also, the removable plastic liner for the trunk. Dead hooker good. Dead hooker residue bad.

Why don't you just ask for a "live" hooker in the passenger seat?

The deal maker for me on my last car was the blind spot indicators...sensors in the side mirrors that detect vehicles in your blind spot. A feature especially useful when traffic is heavy and all lanes moving at same speed and you (I) may not notice someone hanging in that blind spot.
I did want AWD since the previous car had it and it's great even without snow, good for rain and dry pavement. I forgot how convenient remote locking is until I was given a rental car that actually did not have these (or power windows) a few years ago...I couldn't even believe that! LOL
I wish I had gotten the package on my car (Volvo) that actually "scans" electronically for pedestrians. This would have been so much more useful than the built-in GPS that I did get. The car does have a sensor (active at low speed) that will apply the brakes if it seems impact is imminent, such as in stop and go traffic; I haven't tested this yet, I want to try it with a cardboard box in the driveway.

My new car is fancy and I don't think I can give up any of it. Heated and vented seats, BLIS, navigation, remote start. I love the adaptive cruise control with collision mitigation braking system.

Angle your mirror further out so it's showing what's next to you not behind you. You already have a rear view mirror for looking behind you. The side view mirrors, as the name implies, are supposed to be angled so that you can see whether there's anybody in the lane next to you. You shouldn't have blind spots if you adjust your mirrors correctly. Any car close enough that you would clip them changing lanes should be visible in your side mirror.
If you can see any part of your own vehicle in the side mirror you're using them wrong.

Dark - we recently found out on Car Talk that we were using our mirrors wrong, and adjusted them. It is taking us some time to get used to it. After 30 years of being able to see the side of the car, the view from the mirrors feel like they are just floating out there sometimes, but I can't believe the difference in what you can see. It is fantastic!

...we also have those little convex inserts on our side mirrors... they're nice...

I am willing to wait on a new car until I can get EXACTLY what I want. The hope is that my daily driver will last a good long time, and that another car would be a "fun/weekend" car.
I want either a TT, an S4, or a 335. I want power and style. I want to be able to be comfortable cruising along, but I also want to have the power to get through when some idiot tries to cut me off or block me.
I want heated seats, and cooled seats if possible. I want separate climate controls. I want a glove compartment that can be locked. I want room to mount a GPS in a subtle way (in-dash nav is disgustingly expensive and far less effective compared to standalone units or phones/tablets).
If I go sedan, I want 4 doors. We often have a third passenger, and I'll want to be able to get that person in/out easily without having to move a seat. Its also handy for tossing a bag or whatever back there.

I'm assuming this was the kind of stuff they used to teach in high school driver's ed back in the day when everyone was good at everything and schools were superb. I learned it from my drunken uncle who taught me to drive when I was twelve so I could run him to the store for forties of Thunderbird. Good times.

In driver's ed they taught me you are supposed to see part of the car in the mirrors. <img alt=" " src="http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/idunno.gif" width="37" height="15" text=" ">
