I'm tired of vacuuming up cat fur. But DF won't let me have the cats shaved.

I have no idea if this is true or not, but I've been told that catfish bait (the really stinky stuff) has cat fur in it as a binder to help keep it on the hooks.

We don't have cat fur. We have cat blankets. They shed that much. or at least one of them does. The one we inherited from my mother, a chinchilla, is designed to leave a pile of fur as a means of marking territory. Forget daily brushing; it's more like hourly brushing. But we still love her to bits. The other cat is a domestic shorthair, and less of a problem child.

I love my Lucy enough that I'm willing to put up with the car fur. I've loved all my cats enough to put up with the cat fur. The worst was the one long haired cat I had. Had to brush her or she would get matted.
I was given a throw for Christmas that I realize is shedding. It's shedding is worse that Lucy's shedding.

The real question is why is the earth not covered ankle deep in cat fur?
Or maybe why has no one discovered a way to produce energy (or SOMETHING) from this plentiful, renewable resource.
My cats shed so much - that everyday when I am done brushing them I put out 'cat fur wads' from the brush for the birds. I'm guessing at this point that every bird nest within a mile of my house is lined with orange and black cat fur - curtesy of my cats. ::sigh::

There is a woman who spins dog hair into yarn and will knit you a sweater out of it. The practical side of me wants to admire that use of an otherwise disposable resource, but the rest of me is just grossed out by the idea.

My cat has the most luxurious fur I have ever seen. The vet even comments on how spectacular it is. Guess I could say my cat wins in the best cat fur category.

I think there's a place in southern California that will spin fur into yarn if you send it to them. Don't know much more than that, but I read something about some woman who actually did make a cat fur sweater. I'm just too darned lazy, at this point, to bother.

I am going to a research meeting this week and my only black dress slacks are now at the cleaners. They will be defurred, and remain in the dry cleaning bag until I am safely in my hotel room, sans animals.

I have a theory that for every cat, there is an anti-cat. Like matter and anti-matter. Because there is always enough cat fur left around for two cats, but my cat is never naked. I think it also explains why my cat runs around like a maniac at night. That's when she plays with the anti-cat.

I have a Christmas ornament made of cat fur. Well, that's... original. Is it pretty?

No, it isn't pretty. It's a wad of fur stuck onto a hand cut snowflake, courtesy of DH's stepmother.
Miss Kitty was the largest, angriest cat I ever met. Every single time I saw her, she would rub up against me and deposit large wads of fur and then try to scratch me.
DH actually used to live with her for a while. In order to keep her from shredding him in his sleep, he would bribe her with goldfish crackers. That explained her weight problem.
Mean, mean kitty. I never let her near DS when he was a baby.
SMIL thought it was funny to give me the "ornament." I keep it because it's a family story.

Ah, now I see! I think it's funny too. My sister and BIL had a very evil cat for a while, so I get where you're coming from.

When I was little, my mom wouldn't play Barbies with me. She says I would tell her, line for line, what her Barbies were supposed to say. I was intolerant of any deviation from the script on her part. This OP kind of reminded me of that.

Apparently no one was interested in starting a thread about cat fur as I don't see one anywhere.
What's going on with work and home life? Did you bail out on the long distance construction jobs and start your self-sufficiency program?

I don't have a gay cat that sheds a lot, so I don't have much to contribute to this thread by way of free speech.

Two comments rom me.
#1 My cat is black & white. he ONLY sheds his black fur on light/white stuff. He sheds his white fur on the burgundy/darker furniture.
#2 I have had this cat since 1997. Since then I have swept/mopped/vacuummed enough fur to knit sweaters for 2 daughters, both their spouses and 4.5 grandkids.
