Okay not really, but DS got the "daycare virus" after his first two days, and now we are all sick! I can barely breathe and my throat is scratchy bordering on sore. DH is being a baby and I am thisclose to punching him in the throat. This is my second day of staying home from work, and I honestly don't think I'll feel any better tomorrow. BLERG!!!!! ETA: DS now has a double ear infection, and DH has a sinus infection. I'm not feeling so hot, so I guess I should see the doctor and find out what type of infection I have.

From the moment you were born...
It the daycare virus what they're calling the norovirus these days or the flu?

Drink lots of fluids and get well.
I think groups of kids are nature's version of petri dishes. Hopefully it will improve soon.

Captain, no clue. I just know the pediatrician said DS has what is a typical virus that kids in daycare get. It doesn't help that he's decided that Mommy is the only one who can make him feel better. I know I should be somewhat flattered, but I do not enjoy having him cough directly in my face at 3am when I'm trying to sleep.

Kitten - thanks. I knew someone on here would have an alcohol-based cure!

Well LOL Jenny - that recipe was given to me many (many) moons ago by a cute young intern at Student Health at the Big U. He claimed it works just as well as Nyquil and saves a lot of money . Seriously, feel better. The entire kittensaver household has been down for almost 2 weeks with the flu (the humans) a scratched cornea (me) and upper respiratory infections (the two adult cats and the two rescue-foster kittens). We are doing some serious round-the-clock medication of everyone and I'm really tired of it .

Fyi - my kids were never in daycare and they still got viruses (and gave them to me!) ALL THE TIME. We puke once a year as a family. Hope you feel better soon! Kids seem to bounce back right away, but not so much for us adults. A family that pukes together stays together. But that's because nobody wants somebody who is puking around so you are stuck together. Hmmm. Now I think I should write a medical journal along with my parenting guide book. This is good stuff! Oh, and for the truly lazy who don't want to heat anything - Vodka and OJ. More Vodka than OJ.

As soon as they get around a group of kids, they catch everything. By the time he goes to school, he'll have built up immunity. Feel better!

The secret is to crawl under the bed when taking this "medicine"

Ooh, if it's the cold/upper respiratory thing that's going around, it's BAD! This is not your run of the mill cold. My office mate and I both caught it. I've had it TWO solid weeks and am just getting over it. I was off for vacation for 5 days and was so sick I barely moved off the couch. If I hadn't been on vacation, I would've had to call in sick. My co-worker has been out about a week, more I think. I haven't been this sick since I had the flu 7 years ago. It's awful and NOTHING helps. Then, since my immune system was already down, I caught the stomach flu this weakened. Not a fun run, sickness wise.

I will admit, DH and DS got the flu over Christmas break and I drank copious amounts of red wine and did not get knocked on my ass. They on the other hand were miserable for a couple days. Alcohol good

This doesn't work if you wait too long. If I feel like I am about to come down with something, just the beginning of resp. virus symptoms. I go and swim laps at the gym or community pool, breathing in as much chlorine fumes as possible. This usually works.

This has been a horrible year for illnesses it seems. A co-worker got the noro virus and was out for over a week. She said she felt close to death, and spent an entire day in the bathroom dry heaving.

You have my sympathy. Are there two flu viruses going around? My family all came down with the classic symptoms (high fever, aches, cough) over President's Day weekend. Now we are all sick again (fever, aches, cough-much worse than last cough). I am so sick of being sick. It doesn't help when you have asthma too.

I am soldiering on - I single-handedly cared for DS from 3am-12pm today (DH had a really bad rxn to the OTC cold medicine we bought and was up all night) and for a good part of the rest of the day. In addition, I did a load of laundry, washed dishes, took out the garbage, and straightened up the kitchen a bit. I also hauled the garbage out to the curb Sunday night (2 very heavy cans!). So there!!!!

The Archie household just got over it. It took about a week and a half to cycle through all of us.

I'm about ready to return DS to the hospital. I maybe got 4 hrs of sleep because he wanted ME to cuddle with him. Apparently having DH tend to him causes him to scream bloody murder until I inevitably wake up to see what the problem is, and then he lunges at me. And we both are pretty equal in how much time we spend caring for him, so I don't get it at all.....

We had that a few weeks ago. Took about a month to cycle thru us all. Then I contracted a stomach virus that knocked me on my back. All it did ot Gwen was give her the poos. I could barely stand up for two days. Took me a week and a half to fully recover. Children are giant germ factories. Gwen loves to cough in my face too, I can just see the germs flying out and hitting my face. Blech. Dh also acts like he is dying when he is sick. If all three of us are sick somehow I manage to still be the healthiest person in the bunch so everything falls on me. There is no being sick/recovering allowed when you are a mom!
