I'm trying to think of ways to pull in some extra money using my land. Currently all our tillable is in hay (about 8 acres), but I also have a couple acres of woods (and access to another 10 or so more) that I think would be good for ginseng. The prices are crazy (like in the hundreds of dollars a pound for wild grown), but I don't ever hear of anyone that grows it. It doesn't SOUND that labor intensive, but it does take 3 years to get a crop.
Anyone here grow it and have advice? Any other ideas for cash crops (legal ones!).

My Dad's family in Marathon WI grow Ginsing. They are his cousins. They have been doing it for years. It has been very profitable.
I think I remember from news articles last year that they (Wi Growers) had major problems with root rot recently.

I'm only about 150 miles from Marathon and I've heard that area was the largest producer of ginseng in the country.
