Oh, I don't shower with them, I just put them (one by one) in the bathtub and use a shower.

I always was in there until they got old enough that I felt comfortable with them doing it. I usually puttered around in their bathroom while they were in there showering. That lasted until around 7 or 8. Then they were old enough to do it on their own. We used to have an elephant that could be moved up and down and the water came out of his trunk. Sorry I ever got rid of it because you can't get one anymore.

At what age did you force your children to take showers every day?
I don't force anyone to shower ... Generally they do most days
At what age did you let your children go away from both parents for a multiple night trip?
Hmmm, not sure they have?
At what age did you let your children come home to an empty house after school?
I left kids to run 10-20 minute errands when they were 8 or so? I can leave most of a day since 11/12... I don't usually leave them at night, although they can handle an evening, I've never left them overnight...
At what age did you let your children set their own bedtime? I usually make recommendations. We've never been great schedule people... They know what's going on if they want o be prepared the next day.
At what age did your kids manage their own email account and other on-line activities? ? They are online, Skype, play certain games with friend, text... They not use mail much. Son has facebook at 14, but doesn't use it... Daughter does not have.

At what age did you force your children to take showers every day? Shower or bath every day since she was an infant. Okay she didn't shower until she was old enough to stand up by herself but you get the idea.
At what age did you let your children go away from both parents for a multiple night trip? DD started spending a single night away with friends in 1st grade. When she was going into 4th grade she went away for a week to church camp.
At what age did you let your children come home to an empty house after school? DD started staying home alone at 9 and coming home from school to an empty house in 7th grade. Prior to that she went to private school across town so no easy way for her to get home.
At what age did you let your children set their own bedtime? Highschool but even then there were reminders not to stay up to too late.
At what age did your kids manage their own email account and other on-line activities? We didn't have internet at home until DD was starting high school so that was not an issue. Once we got internet she immediately got her own e-mail but I monitored it and her facebook page just to keep an idea of what was going on in her life.
I was also the horrible mother on the block who let her DD take public transportation by herself starting at 10. We practiced together before hand and she was only riding the bus 2 miles to the dance studio. She walked to the end of the block caught the bus, rode it 2 miles, and walked half a block to the dance studio. The other parents reactions were unreal.

At what age did your kids manage their own email account and other on-line activities? 1. They don't have to and neither do any of us in the household, you guys are clean freaks learn to let the body be. 2. Child #1 went to overnight camp at age 10, gone for four weeks. I'm assuming multi night trip does not refer going to family, they've done that since they were 2. 3. 12 4. My oldest is 16 and I still tell him that he needs to be in bed by 11. 5. 14-15 with some understandings of what is appropriate.

shower - probably at about 6-7, but in the winter it might have been every other night unless sports were involved. I'll never forget when DS was around 7-8 and I'd send him to take his shower. I was suspecting that he wasn't actually doing it, but he would come out damp in spots, so I'd let it go. Then one night I opened the door on him, and he was sitting on the toilet buck naked with the shower running. Busted!!! He didn't do that again! overnight - they would spend the night at various places (grandparents, other family, and some of our close friends) at a very young age, but didn't for several nights until they started staying with the ex after we split up - they were 9 and 5 at the time we split. bedtime - It was set until late high school, but it was generally accepted that on school nights they had to be in bed by 11 unless they had a big project they were trying to finish. Weekends and summer, they probably stayed up all night and slept all day like I did . after school - DD started staying home when she started 8th grade (13) but usually she stayed after school for sports. DS was a little younger because she was home with him, but he didn't until probably 12. online - they weren't allowed tv's or computers in their rooms growing up, but they had myspace accounts. The computer was in the family room where we could check on things. I'm pretty sure DS figured a way around some things. DD was an open book.

At age 5 my oldest went on a road trip with his grandmother. When they were 5 £ 7 they flew alone to Japan for a summer. About 5th grade when I discovered that their babysitter was not supervising them. Teens. As long as they got up in the morning. Email was not invented (thank goodness). Neither was the internet (well it was invented, but only available to military and scientists)

How far away is the trip? Why is your DH opposed to it? How old is your son? 3 hours. He couldn't verbalize a good reason, just that it feels like a long time for his first trip away from home. My son is 8. As it turns out, he has some things he needs to do, so I'm going to pick him up after 2 nights.
