He is 19 months old and he has been cared for by family members with no other small children. He is in the "twos" room. DH said he didn't even cry when he was dropped off, but I am nervous!

DS has been in daycare part time for almost a year now. last week when I picked him up, he said "Mommy, I had a great day at school today!!"
I am sure he'll do great. Hang in there today!

logically, I know he'll have fun, learn tons of new things, and play with other kids.... but I'm afraid he won't eat what they serve/won't nap/will scream when they try to change him (he HATES the fold-down changing tables)/will throw stuff at other kids, etc.

it's only for 2 days a week. I'm hoping that once he hit 2 we can re-evaluate. If he likes it and we can afford it, I'd like to add another day.

But I am going to wager that whatever he does (or doesn't do), the DCP has seen it all before.

(She still cries when she sees her grandparents and won't go to them, even though she sees them almost weekly.) My LO doesn't eat as much when she is at daycare, and I'm pretty certain she doesn't nap much, unless she's sick. We just adjust for it in the afternoon/evening routine. It will all work out!

There isn’t anything he can do that the daycare ladies haven’t seen before and know how to handle. My kid is a totally different person at daycare. Eats her meals, takes naps, puts all her toys away nicely. Every time they tell me about how wonderful she was today I want to ask if we are talking about the same kid.

My DD went for the first time when she was 2ish. Her first day was spend laying on the floor cocooned in her blankie. Talk about mommy guilt! I was really worried about day 2, but she ran into the place like her pants were on fire and jumped right in with the other kids. I learned that she needs time to acclimate to new situations, but she gets over herself pretty quickly.

It is harder on the parents. Day care workers have seen it all.....

My 2 year old cries when I pick him up. My 4 yr old still does this I think 19 months is a really good age to start. They are a little easier to sidetrack at that age. I think it can be a tougher transistion if you wait until they are older.

No, we don't walk away. But when we're holding on to something precious, we run.

YAY! Glad it's going well. My DS eats like a horse at dcp. They're amazed at it. We DO feed him and he eats a lot at home too.

off to pick up my pumpkin! Don't be too upset if he doesn't come running when he sees you. You would think mine were beaten daily the way they acted when I went to pick them up. Glad he had a good first day!

Children are evil this way - they always behave better for others than their own family He'll be loving it & missing all those kids when he's stuck at home with the boring fam!!!

he wasn't very happy to be dropped off yesterday (he cried when DH left), but he was happy when DH picked him up - he was so busy running around he didn't even notice DH was there at first! Today he is with DH's aunt who plays with him and lets him run around like a maniac, so he should be happy.
