It was stolen from the Sausalito Yacht Harbor. The poor owner found out when he saw his boat on the news. (I checked on SA, they always have the scoop on sailing gossip.)
Although it's not common to have large boats stolen, when they are stolen, it's pretty common for the idiots to run them aground. Had that happen around here a couple of times over the last few years.

Hi Milee,
I was hoping you would comment. What's SA? It's interesting that the stolen part isn't in the news article.

Such a gorgeous boat too. I wonder what the damages will be? That's easily a multimillion dollar boat right?

Initially, I was thinking about the costs of the rescue. Helicopter and fire reponse and there's either Coast Guard or Homeland Security boat that's been in the bay for hours. But I'm going to bet that boat's going to be pretty beat up too after being thrashed in the surf for hours. And I wonder who is still on board? I would definitely be

Hi Milee,
I was hoping you would comment. What's SA? It's interesting that the stolen part isn't in the news article. SA = Sailing Anarchy. Very irreverent website on which sailors dish about sailing stuff around the world. The Forums will always always cover an event like this and usually one of the people posting knows the boat and the owner, but on this issue looks like just local knowledge from news. The surf won't have damaged a boat like that, but running and being stuck aground probably will. Very sad. The keel, hull and propellers (something that size surely has an inboard) are probably damaged from being repeatedly pounded on the sand/rock/whatever is underwater there. I hope all the thieves are aboard, seasick and scared for their lives. The idiots didn't even know how to work the VHF.

From my spyglass view, there still on board and I'm pretty sure thinking, "Boy are we F*ucked!" LOL! I wonder if they thought they could make it down to Mexican waters to sell it? It makes no sense because that's not a speedy trip at over 500 miles away.

From SA: "Not a racing story by any means, but if my recent phone call with the photographer is any indication, quite an interesting one. According to Erik Simonson of Pressure Drop, the boat was brought to San Fran for the America's Cup charter season and was stolen very recently. Reportedly the thieves are still onboard and the police are on the beach, with weapons drawn, ordering them off the boat. They have yet to comply."
This is the boat: www.charterworld.com/index.html?sub=yacht-charter&charter=sydarling-1508

Nice picture Milee and thanks for posting. So it is really over 80'; that's a heck of a sailboat!
They're still on board; I'm wondering what is the plan to get them off? Maybe they're just letting them suffer for a little while longer?
What a bunch of idiots; they got all of about 15 miles from where the boat was moored.

Never mind the sailboat, if you're watching the drama and thats' the view from your house, I want to know if you rent rooms to vacationing, frugal YM types?

Ouch. The SA guys are saying it's a $2.7 million yacht and they're guessing that given how it's being pounded, the keel will probably come off.

At some point this evening DH will come across this story and rail against the idiots who would destroy such a beautiful boat.
I'm glad to have seen this thread so I'll know what he's talking about.

My pets are NOT nice. They eat EVERYTHING including coming up on the decks to eat my climbing roses and potted plants . We have about 14 that sleep in the backyard at night.

Milee,
Any scuttle butt about the rumour that the female crew member might be involved?

The rumor is that the thieves were 2 men and a woman. Nobody is suggesting they're part of the crew. If they were, they sure as heck weren't part of the sailing crew.

I'm trying to be nice about your pets. They are pretty. Where I'm from, they're often served in stew.

Man, you can't even make this stuff up!
ETA: All the peg-leg guy needed was an eye patch and a parrot!
At least they should have brought on GOOD beer!

We're not allowed to hunt within the county nor are we able to kill squirrels, oddly enough. We've been having a problem with the squirrels chewing on wires in the car and also - not unusual - eating all the bird seed. So I've been trapping and relocating them.
Guess that's another benefit of being a white woman wearing a workout skirt and driving a Mercedes SUV. No matter what weird thing you're doing (and let's be honest, pulling into a random business parking lot and releasing a squirrel is pretty weird), nobody ever questions or stops you.

I'm pretty sure you would get questioned no matter what you're wearing if you're carrying a rifle and have a deer strapped to your SUV roof.

If anyone has a deer I can borrow, I'm totally game to test this theory out. It might be an interesting sociological experiment to see what I could get away with before anyone questions me.

Bonny - if you know how to process your own deer, you could just quietly stock your freezer & bury the evidence. This from the girl who's dad & brother hunted opposums out the living room window with bows at night so the neighbors wouldn't see. Thank goodness they didn't try to eat that one!!

Opossum is greasy and not tasty. Deer, on the other hand, is really good. I've caught a few opossums in the squirrel traps and they also get released 5-6 miles from home at random parks and businesses. Still nobody says a word.

Looks like some kind of funky salvage boat coming in with a drop down front. A ton of people around the boat.
Just in time for the 5 o'clock news!

They've got the boat hooked up and facing out to sea but it's only moved a little bit. Tide has moved in but it still seems stuck. High tide isn't expected until 10pm according to the news reports.
