A couple of weeks ago the woman sitting next to me in the pedicure chair was eating frosting out of two cans with a spoon while getting her pedicure.
I told this story to an acquaintance who admitted she eats cheese steak subs while getting a pedicure.
I can't imagine eating during a pedicure, but thought I would bring it to the YM crowd for harsh judgement of both sides.
What say you? Is eating during a pedicure kosher or not?

Well, I don't get pedicures, so it's a moot question for me.
But it does seem odd to me. Is this some kind of fetish? Especially if it's a particular food. And who eats frosting straight from the can? That can't be good for you.

Was the woman on her meal break while having her pedicure?
Canned frosting is simply unpalatable.
Cheesesteaks? Delicious.

My acquaintance eats a specific food each time because the pedicure place she goes to is right next to a sub shop she likes.

She is a super friendly smoker in the office complex where I work. Whenever I go out (smoking area is by the door, I am not a smoker) and she is there we chat a little. She has a toddler and works full time, so time is not on her side.

For some reason that sounds disgusting to me. But I'm not a fan of canned frosting or, for that matter, any frosting other than whipped cream. Now the cheese steak sub <<drools>> sounds good under normal conditions. But it sounds disgusting to me when feet are involved.

My mom whipped up real frosting and ate it by the bowlfuls when she was pregnant with me. I am not a huge fan of sickening sweet things like frosting. If it smells like feet I'm doubly turned off! ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/sick.png)

I can't imagine eating frosting out of the can in public. That is something you do in the privacy of your own home when you're drunk at 3am. ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/tongue2.png) Eating during a pedicure seems very rude, but I can't really explain why.

I am LMAO imagining pieces of cheesesteak sub falling in the water or on the poor person's head or the person eating it having grease running down their arm.
I can't imagine canned frosting being something I'd want after a night of drinking. That's what Taco Bell and Egg McMuffins are for!

I don't think any kind of food should be in a nail salon! That's totally gross. It also pisses me off when the person next to me is on a phone call. I'm there to relax.

Homemade frosting is a treat, but I would never eat it in public.

I can't believe you guys have never eaten canned frosting out of the can. But it's usually with your finger after a night if drinking. Not that I've ever done it.

I must admit while enjoying my feet treat- I've munched on chips, crackers, cookies, grapes, sipped coffee, downed a roll of cinnamon candy Mentos and other non messy edibles while me and my nail gal gabbed.. Is that an absolute no-no ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/huh.gif) .. My nail gal does not eat or drink while servicing my feet though. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png)

Um, chips, crackers, cookies and coffee are not "non messy edibles." And munching away while talking and getting a pedicure is not exactly an absolute no-no, but does earn you a place on the trailer trash team.

Given that I've only gotten maybe 7 or 8 professional pedicures in my life, this is an admittedly small sample size. The salons I've been in for pedicures seem to have been at very opposite ends of the possible spectrum, either $200 places where you could be sitting next to a celebrity or $20 places where the nail tech barely speaks English, but it would have been really odd for people to eat in either of those venues.
For the really upscale venues, it would have been rude to eat because they were so incredibly clean and the atmosphere so spa-like, that eating would have been equivalent to befouling the place. For the really inexpensive venues, eating would have been rude because it would be rude to eat in front of someone who (you hoped) wasn't allowed to eat for hygiene reasons. Not to mention the inexpensive places have all smelled so strongly of chemicals, I can't imagine who would even want to eat there.
But I have a strong appreciation for random events, so if there were a women sitting next to me eating out of a can of frosting, I'd probably get a kick out of it, check for hidden cameras and also probably want to talk to her because she's gotta be an interesting chick.

Never had a pedicure in my life. My guess: for her a pedicure is an indulgence and so is eating frosting out of the can and that's how she treats herself. Frosting happens to be my one serious downfall in an otherwise disgustingly healthy diet so I can relate, but I hope that's not a regular occurrence for her- not good for your waistline.

I would imagine a fancy, shmancy health spa were pedicures (along with other services) are offered, champagne and other edible treats are provided to the customers. So does it depend what type of facility it is where food and drink may be consumed? Strip mall business versus day spa complex?

In the fancy schmancy places I've been in (Phoenix, Chicago, SW FL), champagne, wine, fancy water and herbal teas, but no foods were offered. One offered pieces of fruit in the outside area where you could sunbathe. None of them offered food in the areas where services were being performed.

Eating during a pedicure seems very rude, but I can't really explain why. I think eating in front of other people at a non-food establishment is just rude. I have never heard this as a "rule" so I am making it up. Well maybe at a sporting event it is ok, but can't really think of any other time it would be ok. My DH has a retail type business and I would consider it rude for a customer to eat in his business. Plus every nail establishment always smells like nail polish remover. I can't imagine smelling that while eating, but I guess we're not talking gourmet food if it is frosting...

Gross! Plus, they massage your feet, heavenly, and I want to close my eyes and savor the moment. I'd be ticked if someone was eating or being noisy. My salon won't allow children in, not even for their own pedis and manis because of the noise kids make. They aren't babysitters. I stopped going to a place and told them why because they allowed kids t o run around while mom was in there. If that's how they want to run their business, fine, but there's lots of nail places and I went to another.

Eating while being serviced by an establishment who offered everything I named above (except for the Mentos) being considered rude is a matter of opinion. And everyone has a right to an opinion from their perspective.
My salon gals and guys serve our mini sized munchies in little dainty cups. Wine is served in disposable wine glasses and H2o served bottled.

Well, I'm on the trailer trash team, too, so it wasn't really name calling as much as designating your peeps. ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/idunno.gif) That said, there is nothing dainty about chomping on crackers, cookies and chips while talking and/or having a salon service. Tres trailer trash. Sorry, just is. And you did ask, so you can't get upset when people answer...

I am a regular pedicure person and I have never seen anyone eat while getting a pedicure. The salon offers bottled water though.

I keep picturing Shenaynay (from the Martin Lawrence sitcom) going to town on some lady's nasty corns with what looked like an industrial strength sander. The visual of the sloughed off skin flying was ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/sick.png) . It had me rolling.

I find it interesting that people can't seem to get through anything these days without food or drink. Admittedly, I've only had one pedi in my life but it didn't seem to take long (maybe 30 min, tops?). I can't imagine starving to death or dying of thirst during that time.
It seems wherever people go, food and drink is expected. It is weird watching folks in action needing drinks and food after 20 minutes...
