All of my landscaping is pruned so I need some color inside. My fuchsia Bougainvillea and my red Hibiscus' are pruned down to the wood. I could see this out of most my back windows when they are in bloom.
I was thinking of updating my decor for spring to add color. New drapes and throw pillows? Hmmmm
Is anybody planning on updating their decor this spring? What are you doing?

LOL J!!!! I'm actually really happy with the colors in my house right now so I'm not planning on changing anything. But drapes and pillows are an easy/quick way to update a room. Oh wait....I've got it now. "Decor" means when a woman goes out and buys a bunch of stuff you already have in a different color so she can then complain that you need to repaint and replace all the super expensive stuff you have, because it no longer goes with the new doilies!

Yeah, even at 85 I don't see me using doilies.
MM what are your colors? Have you seen picture of my house? It's very monochramitc IMO. I have some reds/wine and yellow accents, but now that my foliage outside is down to nothing what colors should I consider? I like some reddish oranges, but it's not my favorite.

I'm not even sure what a doily is -- it just sounds like a decor thing.
A lobotomy?

MM, that sounds gorgeous! I love those colors too and paprika would go perfectly with my decor. My drapes are the Dupioni silk ones from Pottery Barn in espresso. I was thinking of getting them in the wine color or the Clay color (goldish?). But I was thinking of maybe getting drapes more like yours with the tab tops. Don't they look lighter/airier and less heavy than what I have now? I also love when part of the drapes have a section different than the rest of the drape. About a foot or some in a print or design, with the rest a solid color. Maybe when I see your house I'll just copy you. LOL!!!

My house is painted in a sage-ish green, french blue, and butter yellow. If I put more spring into it, I think it'll bloom I would like to put some drapes up though.

I don't close ours either. And I don't have blinds except in the bedrooms and Family room. I also have a leaded glass door for our front door without blinds. I'm starting to think we are either exhibitionists or so boring there is just nothing to see. Hmmmm. Maybe that is why our neighbor left their homes in the middle of the night. LMAO!!!

I like sage-ish green. I have sheer drapes in the breakfast area and master bedroom similar to that. Or is that celery green I have? Or lichen....? Knowing Dark I think the drapes will be a requirement.

My house is mostly neutrals, beige, browns, greens. I like them but was feeling the need for some color so decided to paint the spare bdrm in a soft pink. I did this yesterday. It looks like crap. Not soft at all, way to pink. Back to the paint store today to get some white to mix with. Another day of painting, damn it. I suck at picking the right paint color but get tired of neutals. And why can't I tell that I hate the color until after the whole room is done?

Pink would be a hard color to put on any wall... why pink? How about a lavendar or periwinkle? Or a soft yellow? My ex painted the master bath pink (I used the other bathroom). I couldn't motivate myself to switch to the master bath until I repainted it.

I have some pink "stuff". No other room to put it in that husband would approve of. I like pink in small doses.

And why can't I tell that I hate the color until after the whole room is done? LMAO!! That happened to me when we bought our new house. I didn't like the color the builder gave us so I thought I would do a deeper shade of what we had at our last place. It was this hideous pink! The swatch looked more taupe with a hint of lavender, but on the walls - it was hidious!! And we were doing the entire house!! Thank God I peeked in the bathroom before we left and saw the true color up. I was screaming "Stop!!!" and we had to run to Sherwin Williams and get all of our paint remixed. There was this guy Drew who figured out what to do immediately to make more of a color like Haze and we love our walls. But I still have nighmares of what would have happened had we just left without looking at the paint actually up on the wall. And the cost! People always say "So what? It's just paint. Just repaint if you don't like it." Yeah, sure.

I usually get inspiration from one piece and go from there. For instance I found a rug that I fell in love with for our den and pulled the colors out of that to go throughout the room. DD's room was inspired by curtains I found and ds's room from his bedding, for example. I suggest just going to some shops, keep an open mind and look for something to catch your eye (mine usually gets caught by a pattern) then find things that coordinate - instead of trying to come up with a scheme and then try to pull it together.

That's the problem. I can't find anything "new" that inspires me. I love what I have already, but wanted to add to it with brighter spring like colors. All the magazines I've looked at have my chocolate drapes, etc. Or it's so modern and bright I would hate it. I'll keep looking but more ideas are welcome!

I have russet (paprika) married with a deep teal in my den. Possibly adding touches of gold and teal to your reds would freshen it up?

Rose, that sounds pretty! I have yellows in the family room. I may go rug shopping this weekend. Maybe I can find one with more reds and yellows in it that have brighter tones. I'll keep my eye out for some teals with that combo. I miss all of my landscaping! The Bougainvillea covered my entire family room wall and you could see the blooms from two windows. Maybe I can find some fuchsia accents that would go with the yellow in that room. Then when the Bougainvillea blooms out again it would all blend. I may go shopping with my girlfriend this Friday so I'll drag her out rug and pillow shopping with me. I'm impatient and I really don't like shopping.

Browse online! Find some stuff you like and either order it or go into the store to look at it. But at least then you can get an idea what's out there first!
And if your landscaping is a huge part of your room (almost like the art), you should probably keep that in mind! I'd say let that be the inspiration and pops of color with neutrals and subtle colors inside... but it sounds like you want a change from that.
Good luck, I'm sure you'll find something you like.
BTW - IMO, light blues & greens (think light aqua, robin's egg, celedon) are good "neutral" colors that would allow the red/pink flowers outside to really shine.
