I use some standard passwords for websites I visit but all my real stuff has different ones that fit the recommendations.

What a great article! Thanks! I do have a standard password that I use for non financial uses. And I only change passwords when I'm forced to... Gotta turn over a new leaf....

So the combination is... one, two, three, four, five? That's the stupidest combination I've ever heard in my life! The kind of thing an idiot would have on his luggage!

I can't believe 20% of people still use the amazingly simple passwords he had in his list. My stupid easy throw away passwords for forums and stuff are at least 8 characters with numbers and special characters, that aren't symbol substitution words from a dictionary. My real passwords, for online banking and whatnot, are even more complex.
It's not like brute force password crackers are a new development or anything.

My work passwords are as easy as they will let them be. If they can't secure their own system, why should I go out of my way to protect their information.
Plus, I have to type them 10 times a day.

Uh... your password is how they secure their systems. As a trusted user you get to bypass the security protocols that keep random schmoe from the internet from even being able to log in. If you use a stupid easy password then random schmoe steals it from you, pretends to be you, and bypasses all the security. Then again, if your IT people let you get away with stupid easy passwords that's their own damn fault. Ours are 15 character minimums, at least two numbers/uppers/lowers/special characters, it won't let you put in repeating characters, and they have to be changed every 60 days. We basically understand and accept that no matter how much you try to explain to users that they need to be security conscious, half of them are too stupid to get it and the other half just don't give a damn. You basically have to force them to use any amount of common sense when it comes to anything computer related.

Ours is 8 min, with caps, lower and numbers - changed every 60 days.
I'm in the camp that doesn't give a damn.
