Never let a crisis go to waste. This is the new modus operandi. Wringing our hands from one crisis to the next. Instill fear and pass mega bills loaded with pork.

Sounds like what most posters figured was going to happen....Dems will attempt to trade more in taxes for the spending cuts which should have already happened.

Um, Rahmbo is the one who made the statement about not letting a crisis go to waste because you can ramrod legislation down people's throats you would never be able to if they weren't panicked.

But, no matter, we are soon going to reap what we have sewn. We are in a worse financial position than Greece.

So if Congress passed the debt ceiling increase today, there would be no crisis and no ability to use panic to ramrod legislation. Who is not agreeing to pass that legislation?

And, all these tax increases are going to hit the middle class HARD. It is going to destroy people just getting by on the cusp. But, Dems are all about govt dependence. That is what they are ultimately striving for. Everyone on the dole under their thumb with consolidated power.

In this situation, Congress is both the entity which sets the "credit card limit" and the entity which uses that "card". They have spent the money over the current credit limit. For them to know say that they won't increase the limit is what is creating the "crisis". That is not spin, it is reality.

Your Presidency, your legacy. I am bracing myself for a steep drop in the economy and some hard times ahead. Those who don't think the wolf is at the door may continue to party on.

I would agree that the Republicans are doing this. Yeah Democrats are all about cutting spending, which is why there was so many cuts in this past "compromise." Wait a minute....

Two different issues. Shooby was talking about using "crisis" for advantage. The Republicans are creating this "crisis" by not increasing the debt ceiling. Good, bad, or indifferent - that is what is happening.

They shouldn't allow the credit limit to be increased without having something in place to prevent the need to do it again....they should have done it last time too. You can't just have this arbitrary limit that will just get increased each time you hit it.

Disagree but it is a way of getting what you want.

And, all these tax increases are going to hit the middle class HARD. there were no tax increases for the middle class, unless you count SSI, which was NEVER going to be made permanent. that would be an utter disaster for that system.

And of course they didn't really address it, they found ways to go around it. We will probably get some spending cuts that are spread out over 10 years, and it will probably be some pretty specific cuts, like cutting 10% from program x, but programs a,b,c,d,e,f,g all do the same thing and get increases

It will be interesting. The 'pubs are taking a lot of heat for the lack of substantial spending cuts in the fiscal cliff resolution. All they have to bargain with now is the debt limit. I have a feeling that the latest round of negotiations just made both sides more bitter if the reports of swearing at each other, flipping the other side off, and promising retribution are to be believed. It's hard to negotiate when neither side has faith in the other.
