My birthday
Are there yearly traditions that you would just as soon forget or not be dragged into celebrating? I'm a birthday slut. In my immediate family, we have a way of celebrating birthday's for a few weeks.... I'd love to not feel obligated to eat Thanksgiving with my family. Issues with food and my mom go back a LONG way. Doing anything for Halloween?

Probably not I don't have any friends to hang out with, and DS is too old for trick or treating, so I'll probably just hide out with scary movies like I usually do. Not enough trick-or-treaters anymore to even turn on the porch light. But maybe I will. Do you go to Christmas bazaars? If so, do you usually buy anything?

I don't go to Christmas bazaars if I can help it, but if I end up at one because it's on someone else's list that day, whatever. I'll look around.
I also have some serious food issues as a direct result of my mom. hate sharing plentiful holidays with her b/c of various comments she'll make over the course of the day, but on random days where we get together and I either cook or bring a meal? she's great, appreciative of the gesture, asks for recipes - and I know she's made them again if my dad loves them, like will be happening with the minestrone I sent home with them this weekend. oy. I want to shake her sometimes and say JUST BE! STOP THINKING SO MUCH!
do you like stormy weather?

Not the crappy kind of stormy weather that you're getting hit with, no I do not. I like a good snowfall but I hate the aftermath and I hate rain. Don't even get me started on thunder and lightening. I hide.
Funny you should mention Halloween. I have my time off request sitting right here on my desk. I, personally, don't give a rat's ass but DH LOVES to sit outside with his M&M full of candy and treats set aside for the allergy kids. He loves seeing the kiddies reactions to the M&M. Unfortunately, I have to be home to put it, and him, outside. Then I have to bring him in every so often for the bathroom and then at the end of it all, bring him and the thing back inside. Last couple of years we haven't had bupkus for kids but he lives in hope. I was kind of hoping I could him at his brother's house.. Apparently they get A LOT of kids.
Haven't been to a Christmas bazaar in years. Thanks but no thanks.
Speaking of holidays, does anyone really care if they have to work on holidays or not? I really could give 2 craps now. I probably will. I just pray it's a warm winter.

I'm actually hoping our mfg schedule stays where it is. I'll volunteer to pick up Thanksgiving Day, and earn back two vacation days in exchange. I hosted last year, so that's not happening again this year to save my sister's head from exploding. I now work 2nd shift, so I won't even get home til late, I won't bother heading out for drinks the night before with everyone else. I may as well work T-day, then. do you need somewhat regular sleep patterns in order to function? what do you do to fix it if you are way off?

What's a regular sleep pattern? If you mean, up all night, sleep all day even on my days off, then yes. Otherwise, eh. I sleep when I sleep. I can sleep anytime, anywhere so it's really not a problem. Mostly in the form of naps 2 hours after I get up. At least one day a week I will get up later, 3PM instead of 2PM, get the mail then go back to sleep on the couch until 6. Hell, I'm cutting into my napping time right now. Only because I think I already slept. That and the pizza I ate earlier is giving me a stomachache. How often do you buy a new mattress and do you go to a mattress store (MattressFirm/Sleepy's) or furniture store (Jordan's)? My mattress sucks and since I'm the only one who sleeps in the bed, I want a new one. We got it at Jordan's Furniture Discount Center in the store. Never doing that again. It sucks.

I bought my last at Jordan's in late 2011. it happened to be timed to after the Bruins won the Cup, and I was able to get tickets to a game the following season b/c of my purchase, which was one that was coming anyway. but to actually answer your question, it was about 10 years since I got the previous set as a college graduation gift. I know you've got a store closer to you than where I bought, but can you get to my store? they have a "sleep lab" where they read your pressure points. I ended up with what I went in there to check out. I have zero complaints with my purchase.
question - what is the worst natural disaster you have personally survived? (woot! Jose has been downgraded, again!)

There's a sleep lab in the Reading store. Just didn't bother with it because of pissypants. May rethink that. I'd say Blizzard of '78 but I was 5 and lived in northern NH. I don't even remember it. There was a hurricane, Gloria, I think when I was in junior high. Don't remember that much either except running around screaming we were all going to die. We don't have hurricanes in northern NH. I don't know about these things. My dad's idea of hurricane prep was to drive down to the beach and watch the waves. OH! Super shitty storm Sandy. I was home recovering from the most God awful body pain from my seizure and I thought my house was going to blow away in the wind. Third floor of a Victorian. Not the most comfortable place to be. I'm listening to 80s music on YouTube. What's your favorite era of music? I need new music choices here. Help me out people!!!

I like several music genres. Mostly classic rock and metal, but I also enjoy old school country and techno. When I'm feeling the need for new stuff, I'll turn on classical. Basically I like anything except rap, opera and jazz. At work, has there been someone you absolutely did not want to work with, whether it was a co-worker or client? And why?

Yes, has happened many times, mostly with co-workers assigned to me (I was their immediate supervisor). I didn't have any control over the assignment. Radically different perspectives on how to serve the "clients".
It is pumpkin spice season. What do you consider to be the stupidest item which has a pumpkin spice option?

Everything! I hate pumpkin anything, spice or not. Smells horrible and makes me gag. Of course, if the memes in the meme thread were true then I would have to go with pumpkin spice TP. Lucky for me DH has no sense of smell so I wouldn't have to buy it.
So, does anyone have Christmas out in the stores, wherever you are, yet? CVS has some stuff out already, God help me!

that would require me to go to stores to report back. in the handful of grocery stores I've been in this week (I mostly pickup as needed) I have not seen any Christmas or Hannukah items. do you have cable? or an antenna? or do you stream? how do you watch what you do?

We have satellite, YouTube, VuDu, and a few other fancy schmancy options which confuse me. I <3 our DVR.
Approx how many hours a day/week do you watch TV and/or movies at home?

If I'm home, the tv (as in football or netflix) is usually on - so a couple hours a night 3 weeknights, maybe 5 hours on Saturday, and 10 hours on Sunday - so ~21 hours/week. Now, whether or not I'm actually watching tv during that time is a different story. I like to have it as background noise. I'm often cleaning, cooking, playing computer games at the same time, and the point of having the tv on is to verbally keep me company (if the dogs could have a conversation with me, the tv would be on less).
With the exception of football, most of what I "watch" are documentaries or history channel type series (though on Saturdays, I do watch home improvement shows). Last night I watched a documentary on the Hindenburg disaster. But my favorite so far was a Canadian "series" called DinoHunt, narrated by Dan Akroyd. It was the best thing ever (watching paleontologists dig in the dirt). Seriously, if you like dinosaurs at all, or have even the vaguest of interest in paleontology or archaeology, go on Netflix and watch this show. It's only 4-6 episodes long, but it is fabulous.
Do you have a favorite documentary/documentary series?

documentary TV show or series do I watch? good question! I am not sure if I do watch any documentaries? does the TV Show Forensic Files count? I watch that the most. there are marathons of Forensic Files that come on. this show is on back to back for over half the day! LOL Question: do you get food delivered to your home?

I get food delivered.
The food I get is fresh and already prepared. Since I live alone and am burned out on cooking, I get Freshly meals, six already prepared entrees with vegetables per week. And because Freshly is higher in calories than I need and is really good stuff (so I have a hard time eating just half and saving the other half for later), I also get Fresh meals delivered. Fresh is a Weight Watchers service they're piloting in this area (So Cal). The meals are good and fit better into the Weight Watchers program. I don't get both Freshly and Fresh deliveries each week, usually it's one or the other.
I used to get Blue Apron when I thought my main obstacle was planning and buying the food to prepare. It made me realize I hate cooking the food as well. All those years of having to prepare dinner for a family of five just burned me out.
Do you have any elderly relatives in nursing homes? Do you visit them? if not, why not? (Sorry if the question is a downer. My last elderly relative passed a couple of weeks ago.)

Answer: I do not know anyone in a nursing home. and wish my parents would live out their days in a nursing home. which I would probably visit. Question: do you use a scented lotion?

Aloe vera is about as scented I like to get. Soooo... Has the weather turned where you are yet? I woke up to snow this morning up at the house. It's raining here in town, though.

Only half way. Temps are consistently in the low to mid 60s (my favorite), but we're still getting sunshine. We've had a couple of rain days, but nothing like what it will be by the end of the month.
Schadenfreude - I am gloriously happy that the Patriots have lost as many games as they've won so far this year (2-2), giving them the same record as my beloved Raiders. The happiness about the Patriots is very needed, given the most recent injury to the Raiders' QB.
What bit of schadenfreude do you delight in?

It has in that it is no longer hot as balls out, and actually hitting "chilly" in the house (it's almost noon and only 63° in the house right now).
Sometimes on scented lotion. I like the smell of honey, almond, cherry oatmeal, spiced cider, coconut, stuff like that.
No relatives in nursing homes. I would hope I'd be close enough to visit if I did.
No food delivered to my home (unless we are talking about a rare treat like stuff from the English Tea Store, or Belgian Chocolate, etc-- no meals or regular groceries)
Documentaries... I love documentaries on serial killers (I know...), also British history documentaries, partly because I love the accents, partly the humor ("although you could eat peasants, eating sheep is more socially acceptable"), and because I enjoy "fun" history. And mysteries. And "haunted" stuff. And...
TV, too much (although I do most while at work, because I have an awesome job, lol)
At home it is just the computer, the antennae never worked after the switch to digital. Even with a converter or new antennae. Must be some hills or trees blocking the signal, since the devices worked at my parent's house just across town.
Christmas in stores-- haven't noticed yet (except the fabric store for fabric, because you don't want to start a quilt this late in the year, unless you're fast!)
Pumpkin spice-- bologna. Not in person, just in photos.
Don't like working with-- many times, usually coworkers since I don't work with the public anymore.
Music-- mostly 90s alternative rock. But I also like 80s rock.
Natural disaster-- haven't been too personally affected by any, as my own property has always been safe. But we've had floods that knocked out downtown, snow/ice storms that have knocked down trees and caused other damage, and fires. Mostly though, it's a pretty good place to live.
New mattress-- not often enough since I'm always scared of getting something worse than I'm already dealing with. The devil you know, and all that...
Regular sleep pattern-- HA! I work a crazy weird rotating schedule with 12 hour shifts. This week I'm off, next week I work nights, the next week I travel for training for two weeks. I just sleep/nap when I feel the need, which is easy enough being single without many outside obligations.
I don't mind working holidays. However, Christmas Eve is a sucky one to work (no holiday pay, you miss Christmas Eve stuff and just want to sleep on Christmas morning.)
Love stormy weather!!
Ok, I think I'm caught up.
Do you enjoy yard work?

(As I glance out at the building yard maintenance crew.) Enjoy would be a stretch. I don't mind pruning and weed pulling, but it has to be in perfect conditions. Not too hot or windy, and the weeds better come up easily. DH and I tangled with sunflower roots for the first time last month. Man those things are stout! Are you a caller or texter?

Dinner and a show. We have season tickets to our local theater and thoroughly enjoy it. Last show we saw a couple of weeks ago was 'Chicago' and it was raunchy ......... loved it. Next one is 'Wm Shakespeare, Condensed' ....... Should be fun
Do you dress up for Hallowe'en, or go to a festival?

So many come to mind. My favorite is this: But, since I can only find them online or while traveling, and are at least $3.50 a pop, I buy Reese's PB cups when craving chocolate. I love the Big Cups. I'll ask the same: What is your favorite candy bar?

Snickers all the way.
Have you ever moved to an area where you knew no one, and if so, how did you go about making friends? I've lived in my new location for a year. I've had a lot of visitors from back home. I work long hours. I just recently got a rescue dog. I feel I need more social interaction.

We moved into our new house and the guys that delivered the new appliances pulled the lady across the street's cable wires down. We met a few new people that day. I go outside and work in the yard. It's a very large yard and considering what it used to look like before, a lot of people would stop and chat with me about the awesome improvement. There are dog walking Meetups. I have no idea how but I get the emails for them every week. I don't have a friggin' dog. Favorite candy bar is Left-handed Twix as I am a lefty. I had to request the night off for Halloween so I can be home for DH. I have to put him and his stupid M&M outside for the kiddies. Do you take time for seemingly stupid-ass things like this? Love the DH, not so much the taking time off for this.

You mean little quirks like that? They aren't DH specific, but I do certain things like fill the Jolly Rancher and doggy treat jars here at the office year round, make Halloween treat bags for the children who come trick o' treating through the building, and other fussy things. They aren't priorities, but they do get completed if/when I have time and am in the mood. When is the last time you dressed up for Halloween?

Last year. I have a Winnie the Pooh costome I wear every year. I'm a real stylin' Pooh with flip flops. If I ever become homeless, I'll make sure this thing comes with because it's WARM!
I have a pumpkin spice story! Right before I went into the shower, there was a story on the local news, a school was evacuated because of a pumpkin spice air freshener. I guess it made someone sick or something. I thought it was funny. That's how I feel about that and that godawful cinnamon crap that is for fall.
Personally, I prefer balsam pine as my cool weather smell. Have you got a favorite?
