now that wasn't very nice....granted MMC could have approached Steve differently, but technically MMC was correct in his initial assessment. Steve said he was ignorant, and MMC agreed. But Swamp's statement of "he's [MMC] an ass" was just mean spirited. Why can't we all just get along?? I'll start the group hug...come here Swamp...

It was mean spirited because MMC was being an ass for no reason.

Just had to get that out there.
Carry on.

Steve, moderating decisions have typically held that calling a poster 'ignorant' doesn't constitute a personal attack.
But as Taxman says, let's show some respect for each other.

Steve's threads are just static. They get the level of thought they deserve.

I find steve to be a thoughtful and intelligent poster. he has different views, but that's what makes him an interesting poster. I don't agree with his many of his views, but I appreciate the thought and time he takes to explain them.

I guess I don't really see any kind of personal attack if someone says "Am I........?" and your response is "yep, you are". But apparently it's against the CoC since now a moderator has decided it's going to be removed ONLY because it doesn't offer an explanation. So we can insult people, but you have to include an explanation for your insult and you're good?
You can't ask a yes/no question, then be insulted if you get the one you don't like.

Well, if your post was typed in the spirit of love and understanding (like mine are), then I guess maybe I just interpreted in incorrectly... Now how about a hug??

And remember, Report to Mod is not the way to handle anything. Instead, make a thread about it!

I think I will take a ban on this. Some moderator can do that now or I can type enough stuff to make it happen. Your choice. Can you make it our choice instead? Some of us who have nice families could use a little holiday rampage.

Dude, you don't know what you're missing. It's like watching Broadway shows on video. There's so much more to the experience when you're there in person. You can feel the tension mount as they start drinking. See the crazy in their eyes when they really lose it. Watch the veins pop as they scream at a volume that you honestly didn't know your tiny, sort of goofy, aunt Mildred could reach. Man... I'm telling you. The experience is so much richer that I can't even describe it to you fully.

Now that I've stopped speaking to my family YM is the only dysfunctional relationship I have in my life.

Steve asked a question. Steve did not make a statement. Whether something is an insult, or not, must come from context. When there is no context, and the comment is other than neutral or complimentary, it's an insult. This is not rocket science.

::When there is no context, and the comment is other than neutral or complimentary, it's an insult. This is not rocket science. ::
I think you're ignorant to the difference between a comment and an answer. (don't worry, explanation forthcoming)
In reality though, i do think there's a difference between randomly insulting someone, and answering someone's yes or no question, one of the options being an insult. It's the difference between walking up to a stranger and saying "you're fat", and someone asking "am i fat" and you answering "yes".
This whole idea that simply answering is insulting, but answering and pointing out how ignorant they really are isn't is laughable. It's like saying "yes, you're fat" is insulting, but "yes, you're fat, your arms flap like sacks of potatoes when you wave, you've got 4 chins, and your fingers look like fat little sausages" isn't insulting because it's EXPLAINING lol. It's either all insulting or it's not insulting, whether someone calls you ignorant, or calls you ignorant and then explains how you're ignorant, it's all calling you ignorant.
