I will have at least one more update later this month. I'm supposed to get a bonus on 12/31 but I have no idea how much it will be. I'll likely make my last update on 12/31.
Here are my numbers so far.

I edited and ended up deleting what I had typed..lol.
I still find myself fighting the urge to pay off my Student Loan D with my 2K Goal Money. I'm just so antsy to get rid of debt and then save, save, save. I'm a saver by nature and I always amaze myself how much I can squirrel away.
DH and I went up north for Thanksgiving and my old bank has a great rate of .74% on their savings accounts. So instead of using the $100 to finish up the 2K Goal I used it to start my Savings goal. We usually aren't in the area when the bank is open and I just couldn't pass up such a great rate. It will be fun to try to make the 2K goal by Dec 31. It's $99.34 and I know I will have $25 on Dec 27 payroll so I guess that makes it $74.34 to go. I love challenges and goals so this will be fun..plus I have 3 weeks and 1 day to accomplish this.

I'm super excited for the 2014 Savers thread to start. I have a few goals and I want to do the weekly challenge again this year.

This is my new update 12/16/13 $15,118 (1/1/13 $0 / Goal = $20,800)
I am also going to add in the amount of my 401K and HSA contributions which are taken out of my check before I get it. I haven't ever added them in but it is money that I saved so I think it should count. I just never thought about it before.
So my new update will be 12/16/13 $18,758 (1/1/13 $0 / Goal = $20,800)
I have one more paycheck this year and a PTO check so I will come really close to my goal. That makes me happy! And I also went on 3 vacations this year so I think I am doing well moneywise since my take home pay sits at $28,000 so far this year.

Is Lucy okay? Just wondering as she seems to be missing and when I try to link to her, it isn't there.
ADDENDUM: Appears (from another thread & poster Sharon) that Lucy is gone. Also cannot link to her so that may be true. If so, I can moderate in 2014 but would unpin 2012 & 2013 to simplify things. Unless someone else wants to step up

Hmmm, I wondered where Lucy had gone, but I just figured she was laying low for the holidays. Yes Ombud, I, for one, sure would appreciate it if you could moderate in 2014.

I think i'm going to join back in for 2014 with the savers because we want to open and max out a Roth IRA for hubs for this year and next year.

I met my 2013 goals early and kind of lost my structure since September. I'll be so glad to start fresh in 2014 with an updated plan and renewed dedication.

Serious this time 12/20/13, $14,227 (6/15/13 $1,711, Goal $13,745)This is my final update for the year. Whew! I'd feel lots better if these were not sinking fund savings accounts, but the reason I put money away in those accounts is so I have it ready when I need it. Happy holidays, everyone! See you on the 2014 thread.

Hi Savers.....I have been MIA for quite awhile....life has been throwing lots of curveballs and still not sure where I am at. Blew through most of my savings with medical bills and tuition for my son. At least I had it. Needless to say.....well, I will just start over in 2014 at this point.
Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and Happy New year!!

Hi all -
It has been over a year since I posted, but believe it or not, I have continued tracking my savings & debts in the WIRR/WIRS way. I just read through several months of posts, and would really like to rejoin come 1/1/2014! I managed to meet all of our savings goals for this year & exceed our debt paydown goals as well.
DH retired from his first career in mid-August of 2013, and started a new fulltime job which really allowed us to make great strides in building up a savings cushion. We have created a variety of sub-accounts to save for eventualities of life (emergency fund, Christmas gifts, car repairs, pet emergencies, vacations, and even a 'random' savings account), but the biggest funding drain will arrive in late-spring 2014, when we have our first baby. DH has older children, but this will be our first together. So anything we can do to prep for that financially must be done, and soon!
My main goals for 2014 are three-fold - 1) pay off our remaining car loan by March 31st (last non-mortgage debt!!!), 2) double our emergency fund to $16,000 (my stretch goal is $25,000), 3) plan (all inclusive, paid for in advance) Caribbean get-away in mid-April for our last pre-baby hurrah. Obviously #1 and #2 are way more important than an island get-away, but even if it's just a weekend trip to a bed & breakfast, we *will* have a get-away of some sort!!
I look forward to getting back into the swing of things on here. It was great for motivation & I very much appreciated the comraderie!! I will look for the 2014 thread over the weekend & finalize my goals to get ready to post!!
Happy New Year - here's hoping it's a great one for all of us!! :-)

Teachermom - So nice to see you back. I understand 2013 was a rough one for you. I hope that 2014 makes up for it, and more.
Tobinikui - Congrats on your savings and racing successes! I look forward to hearing about you reaching all of your savings goals!

Serious - "...sinking fund savings accounts..." I've heard this term used a few times but I don't really know what it means. Could you help me out?

Sinking funds are like short term savings -- what I set aside and expect to spend down during the year. For example, property taxes are paid in two installments. I expect the entire amount will be gone by the second installment. I am tracking the amounts saved, but not withdrawals. Retirement, on the other hand, is a long term savings thing and I don't plan to deplete it at all in 2014.
Gifts, pet care, most if not all will be gone at the end of the year.
To make things simpler, I'm going to sweep all my current savings for my various accounts into one category and start with a $0 balance on January 1. I'm resetting the clock back to zero, so to speak, and not letting the amounts roll over from year to year.
So far I have 3 trips penciled in for 2014. And no vacation budget. Hmm. I'm not sure I can stand to add another category to savings. I think I'll have to cash-flow my travel.

Saving4Norway....thanks! Yes...it was not fun!! Still have a tons of doctor bills I will need to deal with...haven't even seen the ones from my son being in the hospital for 5 days over Thanksgiving. Ugh
Sinking funds should be for yearly expenditures....you have to pay but can't afford to pay in a lump so you break it into payments and like Seriousthistime said....you expect they will be gone in the year...things like insurance or car maintenance or a vacation during that year. Anything that is out past the year end....would then be long term savings....things like a new car or major vacation years out or home down payment.
A positive of this last half of 2013 is I lost 55 pounds and over 35 inches....still have more to go but that is 2014 goal!!!
Looking forward to a fresh start!
Happy New Year savers!!

Serious and Teachermom - Thanks for the info. Now that I know what it is, I know I have a large proportion of my savings plan allocated to sinking funds. Is that a bad thing? I guess I'm more concerned because my sinking fund categories are for wants (like vacations), not needs (like taxes).

I did it. I made my saving goal. I did redirect some of the money from one goal to another but the overall amount saved was reached. Here's my last update of 2013.

Happy Almost New Year to all!
I wanted to drop by and post, but I am not sure if I am going to run out of battery before I get everything together. We are traveling and I forgot my power cord! I still need to write out my 2014 goals and see how we finished in 2013.
