The drugs I take are cheaper than that.
How much of this cholesterol stuff do you have to take to get high?

I used to take Lipitor. My cholesterol wasn't all that bad (<250), but my triglycerides were very high. Lipitor doesn't work all that well on triglycerides, so a different doctor put me on Lopid. It works great.

Also I talked to Dr. Jay Cohen , MD-PhD about antioxidants.. Add 5 oz Merlot to your supper meal and the odds are better then the use of 80 mg of Zocor or Lipitor..Forget use of transfat as they are Olive Oil or 6 omega rich almond oil Just a thought, Bi Metal Au Pt

Swamp and Bob Like Mad_dog, I use Lopid (generic form). I have fabulous HDL, good LDL, decent triglycerides, but have trouble hitting the infamous 200 for cholesterol level. Some of it is inherited, some of it me. I dumped most of the carbs from my diet, so it will be interesting to see if this helps by the time my next blood test comes up this summer.

I eat an antioxidant diet . And if I consume any alcohol it is only Merlot. These 'little things' have a very great influence. I am doing my own experiment to see how high I can get my HDL with these simple maneuvers. I take only vitamins and no meds.................

Low carb diet is better for you than low fat diet.
1-2 T ground flax seed (aka flaxseed meal) a day. Look in the flour section of your store. Flax will vacuum the fat. It mixes anonymously into oatmeal, pizza sauce, jelly, etc. Your hubby won't even know he is eating it. Not for children.
I am a middle-aged couch potato who likes to eat. So my overall cholesterol score x30years at ~223 is a little high-my bad is a little high, my good is a little low, triglycerides high. They have pushed cholesterol prescriptions at me for 30years.
Genetics is father with normal overall cholesterol score AND 3bypass/2stents, and mother with high cholesterol score but NOTHING stuck in her arteries.
I go to church at Christmas. I eat right just before a drs appt :-)
So a month ago on Fri/Sat/Sun night before bed I ate one packet Quaker Oats Weight Control oatmeal with 1-2 T flaxseed meal (aka ground flaxseed-it must be ground.) Topped it with full cream and cinnamon. Usual bad diet otherwise-I ate 2 prime rib sandwiches from Culvers that weekend :-)
Fasting cholesterol Mon morning was 187, triglycerides low, bad low, good still low. Lost a couple pounds. Dr didnt offer cholesterol medication, just said a little exercise would raise the good.
Now if I could just go to church more often :-)

Nope. I've been put on all of them & have the weird muscle side effect.

No drugs needed for cholesterol here. Just lucky in the gene lottery in that area.
