Any one here live a minimalist lifestyle? What about minimalist furniture? Anyone try to decorate their house that way? How do you like it? I think I would like the simplicity. I dont have much furniture now. I need a smaller house. I have around 1800 square feet and only use about a third of that. Your thoughts on minimalism please. I'd love to be one, but DH is a packrat, and kids seem to collect crap.

Yes I love to clean our house and remove anything unnecessary, we have nothing other then what we need. I really would like to pull out all carpets and just live on the foundation of our house. I like metal, light, and openness in a home with little furniture.

Our house is too big for the two of us but I would say we are minimalists as far as what is inside. I never complain about not having enough storage and we have empty closets because I go through and clean them regularly. I hate stuff.
We only have furniture that has function and we don't have much for decor. Our house echoes. Most of our walls are blank and the surfaces of our tables are clear. I have no need for stuff that just hangs on a wall or sits on a shelf. I do not understand having holiday themed dishes, towels etc. as what is the point of having something you can only use one month a year? Often people try to gift us this type of stuff...it all ends up in the garbage or at Good Will.
My mother is a hoarder. I think this might explain why I am this way.

To expound further on my minimalist lifestyle. I try to do most things with minimal amount of material items. I like to drive basic cars, eat basic food, and other then my hobbies keep most things to a minimum.
I do lots of hiking and climbing and I also practice minimalistic methodology with this. I bring a couple of snacks and just enough liquid and supplies to accomplish my goal. I rely solely on maps and never use GPS or electronic devices even for crosscountry routes. I have reached the point where I can recognize routes from the lay of the land. I do the same with my thinking I rarely ask people for advice and instead make my own conclusions from reading data, it gives me greater clarity of mind and less skewering by people with agendas. Ironically all this makes me unique in many ways to the average person beyond my obvious sexual perversion.

At home, we have a habit of leaving stuff on our kitchen counter. Mostly things like letters, old bills (DW's; mine are neatly filed ), sales flyers, take-out menus, and all other kinds of junk. When company is coming over, sometimes DW will grab it all and stuff it into a shopping bag and put it away until the visitors leave. Or so I thought. Last week, I found at least 5 of those bags in our hall closet. Lord knows how many years they've been in there too.

I say I'm a minimalist, but I'm really not. I have a large collection of guitars and amps, several garages full of cars, dirt bikes, ATVs, tractors and other motorized vehicles. I usually buy what I want when I want it. Though, I am selling my vacation home.

I'm closer to being a minimalist than a hoarder. But I find minimalism too stark.

I don't care for clutter and my "collector" friends will say I'm a minimalist. I don't feel I am as I love a few knick knacks and vases, etc. on tables for decorations. But I don't like a lot of stuff either. I do like square footage for our primary home, but would like a little place as a lake house one day.

DH was such a minimalist, I just thought he was too cheap to buy stuff. Now I have tons of stuff, no way could I minimize. Thankfully opposites attract.

If you count the two bookcases, I have nine pieces of furniture and two TVs, one hanging on the sitting room wall and one on a dresser in the bedroom. Is that minimalist enough?
What do I win?

Oh, goody. I was at 36 way too long. One can never have too many karmas...I'm not a minimalist when it comes to karmas.
