LOL - Are you the lady I used to work with that told me when she added together all her 15% price increases, it would increase sales by 25%. Guess what...it didn't.

Pigs will get you to 70% chance but if you want to hit 100% you'll also need a cow, 4 goats, a cheetah, and an ark.

Is there some kind of accounting gimmick I can use to get the pond holding water to be exactly 100 percent?
Easy peasy. You just depreciate. The depreciation gets the water level down, so no overflow. You see, there truly is no problem which proper accounting cannot solve.

Would that be straight line depreciation or DDB?

I'd go with the sum of years digits that's always fun.

there are only two ways of insuring it holds water and one that most likley will work. first would be to line it in a heavey mill liner (like a pool) the liner is black and you can get it in rolls, remember to over lap your seems. second concrete with plaster over the cement (cement is curretly about 100 dollars a yard. you best and cheapest option is the pigs and clay the pigs will mix the clay in as they wallow the more clay the better. than the pigs can become bacon, let the clay dry and it really should hold water to the rim and a over flow pipe at the hight you want the water and instant pond.

I'm not seeing the value of adding the pigs. Pigs like mud, so they would be apt to let the water seep to a minimal level, so they can have better mud.
I say put fish in it. Fish have more incentive to keep the water in the pond.

I'm am pretty sure you weren't meant to add those percentages. 33% without pigs. 70% with pigs. Or alternately he meant it would be 70% more likely with pigs. In which care you still can't add numbers, you have to multiply:
67% chance of failure * 30% chance of failure = 20% chance of failure or 80% likely to hold water.
Do pigs actually help a pond hold water or is this some sort of joke that is going over my head?

This is my favorite part of the equation. Fish in water don't smell as bad as pigs in mud.

Fish in water don't smell as bad as pigs in mud. They do if the water drains...

Pigs truly do smell horrible. I hope your neighbors won't hate you.
What is the cost of the clay? Can you find piglets cheap this spring? Feed shouldn't be too costly if you feed table scraps and supplement with pig feed. Can you contact a local grocer for there produce trimmings?
I would say worse case scenario, you get a freezer full of pork. Best case scenario, you get a freezer full of pork and your pond.

The pigs compact the earth. Also the pig manure seals. But mainly the pigs compact the ground, by rolling around on it, causing it to hold water. You don't put the pigs in when there is water there. Also once you get a pond to hold water, the weight of the water causes the bottom of the pond to compact more. You put clay on the pond, spread it around, fence the pod off, put pigs in and let them compact the clay into the ground. Have them a place to go if it rains like he'll, so they don't drown. Wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy the clay and rent a front end loader for the day to compact the soil? I know you wouldn't get the freezer full of pork, but I still think it would be cheaper to rent the front end loader and buy the bacon from the grocery store by the time you would be finished than to have to feed and care for them for a year.

Some of us aren't made of money. Which is why I said that it would be cheaper to just rent the front end loader. Buying pigs, feed, vet care plus the clay isn't cheap. Not to mention a years worth of work.

Pump out water and put in concrete liner. Replace water. Near 100% success.

for the pond and snakes you need pigs, i ran some in TX and got rid of all the rattlers the pigs killed and ate them. you can sell them to just about every one for brush you need goats I put them in a dog collar and spike them out one area at a time they even ate thorn bushes. the only ones that would buy them to eat came from south of the boarder

I might be buying pigs anyway. Pigs or goats, I can't decide. Goats would be easier, but pigs would sell better. I'm not sure goats would be easier. They are very skilled at escaping. You need no-climb fence. OTOH, do you live where there is a large Hispanic population? My Aunt is a goat breeder in MN, they keep very busy selling meat goats to the Hispanic residents. I've eaten goat, it's not bad. Probably cheaper if you consider the costs of curing the pork, should you chose to make hams and bacon.
