what say you? www.nydailynews.com/blogs/the_rumble/2012/11/obama-should-make-romney-his-treasury-secretaryPresident Obama needs a new Treasury Secretary. Mitt Romney needs a job. And when current Secretary Tim Geithner steps down — as he’s indicated — before the start of Obama’s second term, the President ought to give Romney a look for the position. If they’re both willing to move past the rancor of 2012, it could be a win-win for both men and the country as the administration heads into 2013 with a full plate of issues. It might sound like a crazy idea, but after last night’s gracious concession and victory speeches, they’ve both left the door open, and it would be the ultimate bipartisan move. Romney set the tone by telling his supporters that he would “pray that the President will be successful in guiding our nation,” with Obama paying homage to the Romney family “From George to Lenore to their son Mitt” who, he said, “has chosen to give back to America through public service and that is the legacy that we honor and applaud,” before adding, “I also look forward to sitting down with Gov. Romney to talk about where we can work together to move this country forward.” And they should put that meeting on the calendar. ********************************************************************************************* click the link above for the full piece.

I think it is far fetched, but it would be brilliant.

What an absurd suggestion... judging from past action, Mitt's first executive initiative would be exploring the "savings" incurred by shutting down the US Mint and outsourcing currency and coin production. Asian subsistence-level workers are demonstratedly cheaper than US labor.

Asian subsistence-level workers are demonstratedly cheaper than US labor. Fair enough, but that is the private businessman Romney. As a member of Cabinet, there would have to be the public Romney...the interests of the country first. This will never happen, but think about it, we are back at the status quo, essentially what things were like before the election. Something has got to give to move this thing forward, and a Romney appointment, should he accept, could be an ice breaker that finally gets it though our politicians heads that we just don't pay them to stall and say no to each other. Personally, I think it would be a win-win, but it won't happen.

This is a joke, right? ETA: I should clarify. US Treasury Secretary is a titular appointment given to cronies either coming from or going to Goldman Sachs (or both). Beyond reading prepared statements about the US's plans for massive new debt issuance, the Treasury Secretary has precisely zero real authority or responsibility.

OK, make Romney the Pope of the Mormon Church, or whatever they call their head honcho, and give him power over all of Salt Lake City.
A consolation prize.
I'm not kidding, the appointment may be the wrong one, but it would be a stroke of genius for Obama to extend a hand and give Romney a position of real authority.
Like I said, he would never accept, but it is a little bit of wishful thinking.

Maybe Pres. Obama should commission ten million Mitt Romney bobble-heads and sell them on the cheap to Republicans. It stands about the same chance of mending bridges as would a token political appointment, but the bobblers could also be programmed to play back bipartisan witticisms when Republicans hurled them at their television sets.

Back in the old days, people had "television sets". Nowadays, they have "flatscreens", and, I'm told, they are far more likely to get their news from internet sites than from television or newspapers. Beyond that, REAL news is struggling against the tide of "infotainment" that is drowning our media. REAL news coverage is locked in a struggle with "Everything Else".

My rule is always, when in doubt, let Aaron Sorkin write the presidency.
This would be just like when Matt Santos (a Barack Obama prototype if ever there was one) was elected and named rival Arnold Vinnick his Secretary of State.

My favourite part in that episode is Alan Alda (playing Vinnick) is standing in line at a hotdog stand a few days after the election and nobody has a clue who he is.

When in reality they're all like "hey! weren't you a doctor in Korea?"

Unlikely he'll be appointed Secretary of State .....
HRC is stepping down, but Mitt didn't make a good first impression on his world tour this summer.

Oh give it to him, he can go blunder around the world and make his followers happy. Maybe he will insult so many that they will want us out of their countries, well we can always hope. No, no NO!!! With his money Mitt does not NEED a job. He needs to just go away. Go buy a city or something. Someplace far away. John Kerry wants the job of sec of state - he'd be a great pick.
