My kids and I were watching "Figure it out" the other night. I like the show - it is cute. It is on Nickelodeon. It is a game-show type of thing where Nickelodeon stars guess what the accomplishment is of the teenaged contestants. So, a kid won a lawn mower diving contest, or a kid trained his dog to do a back flip. It is on at 7:30 pm, and aimed at 10-ish year olds, give or take 3 years on either side.
The advertising during the show is predictable, until an ad came on by one of the class action lawsuits against birth control, and proceded to talk about birth control and vaginal problems. Granted, my kids and I talk about a lot of stuff - but seriously, birth control on Nickelodeon?? How many 11 year olds have been harmed by taking Yaz?
What inappropriate advertising have you seen on TV?

I got confused last night because Gwen was watching Team Umizoomi and I heard a commerical for Trojan Man condoms. I was thinking "They wouldn't advertise that on Nick Jr!" I was right, she had the remote and was changing the channel. Whew.

I have also seem some inappropriate commercials on children's channels and/or during shows meant for kids.
The worst around here that has people VERY upset is a political ad by a pro-life senate candidate. The commercial actually shows buckets full of aborted babies. It is horrific. And it's been shown early in the day. It's upsetting in general, but I know several parents who have young children who saw it. Now that I know it's out there, I'm trying to be very careful to avoid it.

The tampon commercials during action movies always strike me as funny. Watch a guy when a tampon commercial is on. Their eyes are eerily glazed and they have a vacant smile on their face.

My 8 yo DS watches Sunday football. I'm just waiting for questions about 1) Erectile Dysfunction 2) What is a 4 hour erection, and why is it so bad.
We generally only stick to PBS kids or DVD because of the lack commercials.
ETA: I thought it was funny when there were tampon commercials during the Star Trek series. I never understood the thought process behind that.

Can't remember the channel, but it was for a new cell phone.
In the commercial, the kids made a video for dad that he could watch on the plane, mom also made a video, but told him not to watch it on the plane.
My daughter asked me what was in the mom's video.

LOL - Did you tell her that she was probably showing charts and graphs about their financial situation, bank balances, etc?

It could have been worse. She also makes comments about my wife watching the "bikini chair dancers" on lifetime.

I used to think it was funny seeing Valtrex (Herpes med) commercials on during the dating shows (Blind date, 5th wheel, Rendez-view, etc). It was especially good when the couple made it to the hot tub on their first date... I think they were trying to send us a subliminal message... if you are going to get frisky with a perfect stranger, you will end up needing Valtrex. ;D The only thing I didn't like was that it showed the folks with Valtrex rafting in a river. Please get out of our water supply...

Nick has shown the sex over the phone ads during the night too. Thank God my kids aren't up at 3 a.m.

I know this isn't that inappropriate but I find the Charmin commercials with the bears very disturbing. Like I want to think about toilet paper stuck to someones ass or how well they're wiping and skid-marked underwear! Having a bear say it basically makes it ok or cute?! It's gross!

I totally agree on the Charmin ads. I hate those bears. Now they aren't even in the woods - which was the whole original premise, right?
But, the concept of toilet paper is one that I guess my kids can handle - so whatever.

We had one like that when I was very young... I want to say 1992, maybe 1996. All I knew about it was that it was "gross" and I was supposed to leave the room when it came on TV.
I can't believe they allow that crap on TV, then or now. The candidate who used that ad didn't win, at least - if he had been successful I'm sure we'd have seen a lot more ads like that.

I think it's a bad political move for this guy. I've talked to a lot of people who are really upset about it on both sides of the political fence.

You can be pro-death penalty and still quite reasonably not want your children to see commercials of someone being actually electrocuted. As for the tp commercials, I don't like the one where the woman says it's "time to get real about what happens in the bathroom". WTF? No it's not. I don't want to have any idea what really goes on in anyone else's bathroom. I don't even care very much for what goes on in mine.

My thoughts EXACTLY!
I told my husband that they should just have a really good looking, abs ripped, man standing there, holding a roll of TP with the tagline "Brand X - get 'er done."

I don't get the erectile dysfuntion commericals. The latest one has a dude running alone in the woods, a dude alone windsurfing, a guy alone driving a convertible. ..etc. I asked DH what the hell is the point of having a boner if you are never around women? Do mean yearn to have a boner while jogging in the woods or something?

Is there any point (past middle school, when apparently boners are constant and humiliating) that men don't want to have a boner? And now all men's testosterone levels must be kept high at all times until they are dead and buried. I am so sick of all these commercials about "Low-T". When did this become a thing?

I'd assume around when they started saying HRT causes cancer in women. Gotta find a new market.

I don't know when it is a dude running alone I get the mental image of him rubbing one out behind a tree and that's creepy.
If he was jogging with a woman at least I could think "Oh they are going to do it when they get home."

I'd think jogging with a boner would be really uncomfortable.

What inappropriate advertising have you seen on TV? ------------------ Pharma companies pushing their prescription meds on TV. Followed by ads by smarmy law firms pusing you to join a class action lawsuit because you were hurt by these meds. Totally inappropriate.

The television station airing the commercial has an item on their website claiming they legally must air the aid. They're claiming because the candidate is running for federal office (His name is Randall Terry), and it's a political ad that they have to give everyone equal time and they cannot censor an ad.
I find it hard to believe that politicians are not held to the same decency standards the FTC sets forth for everyone else.
