I've always said that the really really rich have money because they need it to make up for their lack of brains.

I don't really care if business owners create jobs or not when you get right down to it. To me, the fundamental principle is that it's THEIR MONEY. not really. it belongs to a lot of people. what is left over is theirs.

Sounds like Wynn's finger is his biggest enemy... and he's using it to point at Obama... ? As foe Wynn and his eminent position in the casino "industry"... casinos are a racket that extract wealth rather than producing it. Casinos have nothing to do to with production, and everything to do with consumption. As for the myriad of part-time, low-wage "jobs" they supply... wage slaves don't generally buy homes (and pay property taxes), but they do rent subsidized apartments.

Steve Wynn is the poster child of what is wrong with the Republican party. Virtually all employees in the casino industry make close to or exactly minimum wage. They live on tips. I used to live in Vegas and Reno, and the dealers and service staff all have roommates; many have 2 or more, just to get by. I knew some in Reno who actually had three jobs. They would not even have health insurance if it was not for the culinary union.

Without the wealthy and powerful there would be no work for toadies and minions! The truly wealthy only have power over those who aspire to be like them. I hear that jma! If you let your money control you, it will.

Money is a medium of exchange necessary for us to have plumbing and electricity. Greed allows people to be controlled by money. We will have to work for the upper class in any system, that is the way it's been for 10k+ years. At least we have nice living quarters in this one.

It is a GOP thing now- but guess what fellow posters- trickle down poverty is coming after you next- we shall see how the party loyalty holds up when you are making half or less what you do now. The worker bees have been gutted- so up the chain it goes.

Greed allows people to be controlled by money. again, i completely disagree. if you are in impoverished circumstances, you are more controlled by money than you are if you are Mitt Romney, who one could respectfully refer to as a "free agent". greed is a path, period. you are only imprisoned by it if you are unwilling to change it.

1) They aren't wrong. Some rich folks do become rich taking advantage of folks with lesser incomes.
2) The rich become rich in various ways. Not all who take risks succeed, nor do all whose risks pay off end up wealthy.
3) If all the rich people left the country we wouldn't be a third world nation. Almost all third world nations are composed of the very rich and the very poor with almost nothing in the middle. The middle class would have to be decimated and that has been increasing true as the jobs being created and existing jobs seem on average to pay much less than they did. Now if all the middle class left the country America might look like a third world nation.
Lastly few people think all rich folks are bad. Most like their sports heroes, some like Oprah, Warren Buffett, singers, actors, etc. I just wish there were more people who started and ran businesses like Ben & Jerry. Others may prefer the Microsoft or Goldman Sachs models instead.

The shitty thing is that money is even necessary- back in the day a person could stake out some land, build their own house, and feed their family without having to participate in any system other than trade- what stinks is that now in the US most people are born into a system that requires working for other people to survive- what is free about that? If anything it is an argument against entrenched wealth- the system cannot be fair if you are born into it where all of the property and natural resources are already 'owned'.

the view of labor as lazy and management as industrious is as condescending as it is wrong. you have sloth in both places, and industriousness both places. but more importantly, with the possible exception of pure investment, anything you build you need the lowly laborer for. anything you sell, you need the lowly laborer to buy. if you bring down the lowly laborer, do you really think that the rich will fill their role? no fucking way.

I had an aunt who was rich. She married a guy who owned a very large business. He up and died and left her all of it. She sold the business for millions, and then spent the rest of her life spending it on champagne and clothes in Europe. The only thing that trickled down in the USA was her 1952 Pontiac, which she gave away to somebody.

Time is money I guess- and I would give it all up to have more time with the people I have lost- I can understand wanting to make a good living, but the pursuit of vast wealth I cannot. Wealth means shit in the ICU- you might get more attention or using the GOP model, you might be surrounded by the best doctors, but when you know time is up I doubt a hefty bank balance makes any difference. What I really want to know is if there is a god, what are the social darwinists going to say when they meet their maker- they really play fast and loose with religious texts. Brother's keeper, eye of the needle- not to mention Jesus was a hardcore 'liberal".

Our corporations are helping grow the middle class in China and India while shrinking it here.

I haven’t read a word of this thread beyond the heading, so forgive me if I say what has been said already, but here is my take on in:
people with ideas, drive and ambition, create jobs;
people who are hungry for more, create jobs;
people who see a need and fill it, create jobs;
people who roll the dice and are risk takers (don’t sit on your money), create jobs;
people who make things that other people want, create jobs.
You can be rich or poor or in between, it is all about the individual, and character…and drive.

As long as we agree hiring people is not the function of business. And for you LLC owners- suck it up- you pay for the privilege to not have your home taken in a lawsuit, Want to be a real 'risk taker' - then take a real risk. Trump fucked small businesses out of millions- and it didn't touch him at all. Make a stand- are you for small business or not?

Like I said, I haven't read the thread, but who isn't for small business? Mom and Pop, well, they are mom and pop, how can you not support that...come up with a clever bumper sticker and I will be your first customer...and a small business grows.

I'll bet we could find one with green eyes! They used to give them away at circuses and fairs when I was wee. I think they were brought in by covered wagon. ;D

Now snap out of it, you have a youthful spirit and wisdom and experience; what a great combination.
