I think part of the problem is that their soup cans are getting smaller and smaller and the price keeps going up. I do like the Campell's grilled sausage and rice soup. And, some of the chunky soups are good but you don't get much. ANd, the regular versions, the cans are small and they just dont' taste very good. My kids would rather eat chicken Ramen than campbell's noodle and that used to be a staple in our house.

You can throw veggies in there too, but my parents never did when they "invented" it, so now it seems like sacrilege

Canned soup is a staple for me but I always saute so much veggies (celery, onions, spinach, whatever else is around) to add, along with hot sauce, that maybe I don't notice the soup base much. Fortunately, I have very reasonable blood pressure so don't worry about the salt. I buy chicken noodle soup; used to buy tomato as well but now they use high-fructose corn syrup.
DH makes soup and we always have a big plastic bag of meat scraps and bones and all the vegetable ends (the fibrous pieces everyone else throws out) in the freezer. The broth he makes is wonderful, and practically free.
