note: just for reference......
when Obama took office in 2009, this number was about -30. it reached a peak of ZERO in 2009. in 2010, during the midterm elections, it was -34. on October 15th, 2011, it reached it's nadir of -60 (this is the one stretch where Romney actually lead Obama in head to head polling). from January to August, the figure was roughly -30. it now stands at -16, the best level since the fall of 2009.

No, people are just settling into the "new normal" of $5 gallon gas, job losses and downsizing their expectations in life for themselves and their children.

I've just looked briefly at the graphs, DJ, and am not impressed... I am not the most skilled person in the world when it comes to taking substance away from quick snap-shot graphs so I may very well be missing something that is more visible or obvious to others, but my own first-glance 'take' is that if we go solely by such numbers, they bode ill for Fearless Leader and better for any Challenger... but - most unscientific of me - I don't put much stock in such things, once folks close the curtain behind them in the polling booth... and, of course, Mitt's now infamous 47-Percent Gaffe isn't factored into the mix for those numbers...

Coming from a Centrist who is probably going to hold his nose and vote for Obama ( just so you understand that I'm not a rabid, foaming-at-the-mouth Hopey-Changey Obamite when I say this)... It must be nice for the Dems having a Challenger who so blithely and willingly put his own foot into his own mouth by uttering such words... I'm not really comfortable siding with the Dems on this one, WorkPublic, but the situation is what it is... Mitt shot himself in the foot... and gave the less-advantaged element of the general population a most revealing and distasteful glimpse into his mind on the subject... David Letterman isn't to blame... Mitt Romney is to blame... As much as I regret having to say it... It is, what it is...

i'm still on the fence as to who will ruin my standard of living more and faster; the government and the poor or the corporations and the rich. both seem hell bent on those of us who aren't quite poor enough and those of us who aren't quite rich enough

I'd put a tickler in your electronic calendar to come back and revisit this one after election day, once the supporting data comes in... I'll be curious to see whether this one holds up under the Practicality Test... it might...

I really thought you'd done it by now and your failure to counter the claims by Denninger were your acceptance. Now I understand why you didn't come back at me when I mentioned 'leading a horse to water' when we were talking about how frustrating it is when people lock onto 'their guy'.

can you provide some examples? Where were you during the Clinton impeachment, the Obama "clinging to their guns", and every time Biden makes a gaffe? That's just off the top of my head. I expect the press to cover the dumb things politicians say and do. All of them.
