My dream #1 was to go to Ireland, did that about 6 years ago, absolutely loved it.
My dream now is to spend a month or two doing a self-guided WWII tour of Europe, visit France, Germany, Austria, Poland, etc, etc. Right now I'm saving money and vacation time so that I can hopefully do it the summer before DS's senior year. I don't want to wait for "someday" when it comes to travel.

I've started to think "if I win the lottery" (I don't play, and have never gambled for money) that I would want to rent an apartment in a different country every year. Make friends with the locals, learn how to cook their traditional foods (maybe barter), completely immerse myself in the culture, then move on to the next adventure. That one will likely have to stay a dream.

My dream trip was to go back to Ireland. And this time it was with my DH and dear kids. I couldn't have asked for anything better! I'm looking forward to topping this but I don't see how that will be possible!!

If we're talking dream where money wasn't an option, I would want to take several months to travel around Europe (England, Ireland, France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy), and I'd end it with a week seaside in Positano.
A more realistic dream at this point is to take our kids to Europe when they are older, definitely Italy and France if we could afford it. DD already loves art and tells me, "When I grow bigger I can see David." She means THE David in Florence.

My dream vacation would to go on a world cruise. It probably isn't going to happen unless I or DH win the lottery.

I honestly can't decide. A month in the UK would be nice.. but right now i'd be happy with a week on the beach in the bahamas.

Agreed, Tenn. The Amalfi coast is mesmerizing. Not sure if I got settled in I could ever leave. I also loved the Seychelles and some of the little villiages in Switzerland and Austria.

Current idea is to rent an apartment or cabin for a few months in Port Angeles, WA. I want my ISO to come too and bring the boat. We could go fishing for halibut and salmon and catch so crab and shrimp from the boat or fish from the docks if he didn't come. They have the Olympic National forest with plenty of wildlife and logging roads to explore and good rivers for fishing. He won't come he said he would move there is I buy but renting he isn't coming. He won't retire so would spend weeks in Seattle leaving me alone there and I don't want to spend years alone there so maybe rent alone for a summer and leave him here.
When I was married I wanted to take my black lab and German Shepard to the Great Slave Lake in the NW territories. The drive along the Frazer river is beautiful and my lab would have loved it. I have driven to Alaska a couple of times so know it is beautiful, I just wanted my dog to enjoy it too.
The best I ever actually took was flying to Mexico and staying in a big hotel on the beach with an old boyfriend.
ISO wants to take two trucks, a camper and boat and head across country for months camping and fishing our way home. It would take months and be expensive but he didn't save any money so now can't retire so it will never happen, I didn't really want to do that too much so not sad.
I might get a passport and find a traveling buddy to go places with, I was traveling with mom but she is getting too old.

What is it? Have you taken it already? Are you going to? Does it include taking the kids? We wanted to see penguins in the wild ~ which means the bottom of the world! Since I also wanted to visit the southernmost tip of South America (Tierra del Fuego) and Cape Horn (where the Pacific crashes into the Atlantic) and the Straits of Magellan ... the best answer is a cruise since there really isn't an easy (or inexpensive) way to get down there. We took a 3-week South American cruise a few years ago on Holland America. We flew from California to Dallas to Santiago, Chile, then boarded a ship in Valparaiso. We sailed down the Pacific coast of Chile, stopping in a number of small cities (and visiting penguin rookeries and beaches), cruising through the Straits of Magellan, cruised off the coast of Antarctica, stopped in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, took a slight eastward jink to stop in the Falkland Islands, UK (more penguins), then we made our way up the eastern side of South America, stopping in Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Uruguay, and finally Rio de Janeiro and Royal Petropolis, Brazil before flying home via Miami. We saw some amazing glaciers, icebergs, the aurora australis, all sorts of dolphins and whales, the pampas of Patagonia, and some rather impressive (and scary) waves/storms.

Interesting topic as I came home to my new passport in the mail yesterday . No trip planned yet but want to do something amazing. I lived in France for a year and would love to go back, but there are SO many places I'd like to visit. I can't even begin to come up with a "dream" vacation!

Make friends with the locals, learn how to cook their traditional foods (maybe barter), completely immerse myself in the culture, then move on to the next adventure. That one will likely have to stay a dream. This sounds awesome to me too! I have a good friend from high school that I've just recently become reacquainted with thru Facebook. He has done something similar to this and has literally lived all over the world. Currently Russia, but prior to that Thailand and a small island in the South Pacific. (After seeing pictures, I DEFINITELY want to go there!) but, as much as I love to travel and see new places, the thought of spending 40 hours to get there...not so much...not sure I could do it. We'll see. Talking to him has completely reenergized me and given me that wanderlust back. I used to have it, but then "life" happened. I spent a year in France when I was 18-19 and always thought I would live there some day, or live in SOME foreign country. It's time to get back out there and explore!

What is it? Have you taken it already? Are you going to? Does it include taking the kids? My Dream vacation is an Alaskan cruise. I think that will be my retirement present to myself and DH. I would also like to go to Africa as well, but I don't know if that will ever happen. We are planning to take our kids to Europe for a month in about 5 years. (Just waiting for our youngest to have half a chance of remembering it.) For us, travel is pretty important. We've done trips around the midwest and the south at least every other year for the past 10 years. This next summer, we'll be doing another trip to the south, but I think it will be our last, as I also want to take the kids to see the Grand Canyon, etc.

It will be at least a couple of years before I can even consider it though. No plans to take the kids unless they can come up with their own money and break away from their busy schedule.

Right now, it would probably be Australia and New Zealand. Would love to spend 2-3 weeks there.
My main bucket list item is to hit all 7 continents.
I also want to go back to London - lived there for three months in college and it was awesome. I miss it so much.
My brother and I just did a big European tour this spring - Italy (Rome, Florence, Pisa, Venice), Czech Republic (Prague, Bone Church - can't remember town's name), Poland (Krakow), and France (Paris, Normandy).
Hopefully I will move on to another continent soon!

Australia and new Zealand are also on my list. I've researched them before but they're too expensive for my current travel budget. I'll get there eventually.

My dream vacation is the Caribbean...and I am fortunate enough to go at least once, usually twice a year. I'm all about gorgeous weather, beachers and cabana boys.

My first dream vacation was to Maui, hoping to repeat it for our 10th anniversary in 2 years! My dream vacation now is to go to Italy for 3 or 4 weeks and see all the tourist things but also visit the northern Italian villages that my great grandparents were from. I have to learn Italian before this trip, which I haven't started yet, so that is delaying my time line. (among other things....) For now, NO KID. She can stay at her grandma's, that's her dream vacation anyways. I would consider taking her to Italy depending on her age at the time. For now, we are going to St. Thomas, anyone have any recommendations?

I want to visit Twin Lakes in Alaska. If you have seen the movie on PBS called "Alone in the Wilderness" it is where the cabin that was built is. There is someone with a cabin/boat that can be rented in the area for about $1K a week. It requires a float plane to get to.

I have several : Spend a week living on a boat diving on the Great Barrier Reef. Bicycle across the entire United States. I would also love to go back to Hawaii and ship my bicycle ahead to meet me, and then cirumnavigate either Oahu or Maui with the bike and some light camping gear. I'd love to drive the pipeline highway to Alaska. Some of these are more a function of available time then money.

2005 - Italy 2007 - Hawaii 2012 - Alaska Next I want to go to Ireland and Scotland. My current plan is 2014. Going to the Caribbean in 2013 but have been there and done that so it is not really a dream vacation for me, just a regular vacation ;D ETA: Also want to backpack around Peru while I am still young enough - the problem is having the time. I would like to go there and stay awhile. I also want to go to New Zealand, but want to be able to stay for about a month. New Zealand may be one place that will have to wait until retirement

Bora Bora.....one of those huts over the water. We have a pretty large vacation budget, but that is really pricey and out of reach.
