Or cookie cutter houses. Or renovating your own home, apparently. Correct and correct. Since most people want to maximize their property's value, they want something that is acceptable to the most number of potential buyers. That formula creates markets where everyone ends up with the same exact kitchen in their house.

I'd do what I always do. Sick Loop on em. After they went back and forth for a while and she was good and riled up and making their life miserable. I'd come in and politely request that we get the whole thing resolved quickly before it escalated. They'd get everything done quickly and conveniently and come out feeling like I somehow did them a favor. It works every time.
It's like good cop/bad cop. But with crazy spouse and sane spouse.

Yup - and I hate it. I can't stand the homogeny of the suburbs. Makes me want to vomit - if nothing else, to add a little personalization to someones house.

Not really - that is the most generic kitchen ever. It says "2005 - 2015" and will be totally dated very soon. People really lack imaginations when putting together a house - so 50% of the kitchens in any given decade are identical to whatever the trend of the day is. Conversely, if you do something totally creative that you totally love, everyone else will scream at you "RESALE VALUE!" and when people come to see your house they'll shake their heads and wonder what the hell the owner was thinking. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Yes - hence my massive argument with some random dude about my "horrible" decision to only put one sink in our (tiny) master bath. My house isn't for sale. And, if it was for sale, someone would likely put on a 600 square foot addition and remove everything inside the house no matter how many sinks are in the master.
I'll take my chances.

Ok, since I sent her my last email I did not get an answer from them. Today I received the following: Hi Carl,
We had maintenance go in and install some additional cabinets. I attached a photo of the finished product. There is a small space that is too small for a cabinet on the left but this looks much better!
Thanks!

So they installed the cabinets on top of the fridge (missing the knobs by the way) and another one on the side of the fridge. Still missing one and her reason is : the space is too small for a cabinet
I am still not happy and pissed because that kitchen is still unfinished in my eyes, they promised a product and did not deliver fully; my wife said we should drop it and make do with the cabinets we have since they at least made the efforts to add 2 out of 3.
What do you think?

I agree that the space looks too small for an additional cabinet. You have to be able to open the cabinet in the corner and if it only opened part-way, you'd have an issue with that as well (not enough clearance space for getting items in/out).
It looks fine to me and the way I would expect it to look. I would agree that the other cabinets missing wouldn't look right and would have also complained.

So basically we saw and were promised this: and ended up with Now my wife is sad because she feels it is all her fault since I wanted to get the other apartment that was done but she wanted the apartment we got because it was an end unit instead of being a middle unit. But now the other one is already rented and they are 100% booked.

But what you're not realizing is that the corner cabinet in the top picture is next to useless. It's hard to put things in the corner without it being super inconvenient or the space is totally useless as it's a "dummy" space and inaccessible.
Just my opinion of course, but I think you both are making a bigger deal about this than necessary.....

You could ask them to put on some open shelving in the same wood, style, and stain. That would give you a nice spot to display some of your infrequently used wedding gifts.

Or get some nice shelves of complimentary materials and do it yourself. A cabinet would be really awkward. The larger question is who the hell designed the kitchen? Assuming they have a bunch of kitchens laid out just like yours, didn't they think about cabinet fit???

That's what I'd do. Its an apartment, for Pete's sake. Yes, you got screwed. Oh, well. DD and her roommate were promised ceiling fans, didn't happen, but they got SS appliances which they weren't supposed to get instead. So they're happy enough.

Just my opinion of course, but I think you both are making a bigger deal about this than necessary..... So we should have just been ok with 3 sets of cabinets missing in the kitchen and go "Oh Well"! I wonder if they would feel the same way if next month they got $1,075 instead of $1,375 as promised and agreed upon per the lease.

So the number of cabinets was specified in the lease?

I think you're being a diva. You're complaining over a useless spot not having a cabinet? The layout of Picture A and Picture B is different; putting a cabinet there would make opening the other ones awkward. You're complaining that there aren't knobs on the cabinets over the fridge? None of my cabinets have knobs, they all open. I say, be grateful they installed cabinets relatively quick, otherwise I'd be surprised if they renewed your lease next year. Don't be a problem tenant a week into your tenure.
ETA: Unless the flash is playing tricks on me, I'm counting 11 cabinets in both pictures.

I'd let it go. It appears they're trying to work with you, & I agree that corner is too small for another cabinet. Save your game face for the next battle!
(Did I ever tell you about the time that the furnace went down in the middle of winter, on a holiday weekend, & neither the on-site caretaker nor the management office was answering their phone. BRRRRRRRRR! That's part of the reason DH & I own a house now....)

I didn't put in a corner cupboard, hung hooks from the ceiling and hang my pots there... A shelf would work too...

I'm sure I rack of some sort would be perfect there for some bottles of wine..... Be happy with what they have done. They could have just told you they were working on it for the next year. Your kitchen still has 5 times more cabinet space than mine, so I say Quit yer bitchin!

It's an apartment not a custom house. It's supposed to be funky and not great. That's what apartments are...

The two pictures are reversed versions of each other more or less. There is a cabinet after the other microwave. I would want SOMEthing in that space. I would suggest a wine rack, open shelving, whatever to the leasing company. It looks unfinished, and that would be my argument.
Some of you think he should just "settle." But I don't think he is paying a "just settle" price, but rather a premium price. And I think insisting something be done isn't unreasonable.
So I would go and talk with the leasing agent again and just tell her that the "unfinished" look isn't something that appeals to you. Don't threaten or give deadlines. Just talk and maybe mention that it was implied that the apartments would be similar. Say that you know that doesn't apply to layouts, but it should apply to finishings. And an unfinished kitchen wasn't what you were leasing.
It IS unfinished, and you guys know it.

Honestly? I think it looks fine. The first apartment has much more empty space than the second. My eyes go straight to where the cabinets fall short over the bar more than the layout in the second. If they need that spot filled then put in a wine rack or shelves.

Who designed this kitchen?
Seriously, I would think there would be several units with exactly the same design, and they should all have cabinets wall to wall.

You would find my kitchen very 'unfinished' ... I intentionally did not put In a lot of top cabinets.

So the number of cabinets was specified in the lease? And let it go. Hope somebody is working when there is a major blizzard over Christmas. I had that happen. Blizzard lasted about 3 days, nobody in office so snow plowing company didn't get called. Major drifting. Nobody in complex could get out until after holiday to go to work. I lost pay. I'm sure others did also. They didn't let us deduct it from our rent. I complained and from talking to neighbors I know others did also.

Hang a plant in that space, will be much prettier than a cabinet and suppose to give you better air too. Otherwise, just let it go.
