Sounds like Tampa won't be pounded too bad. The Panhandle though???

We are central and we have the usual gloomy weather and rains off and on. We aren't even getting the outer bands as the Hurricane has moved West from us. Other than going stir crazy we are fine.
Last I spoke to Cheesy she was good and Nancy is on vacation so I don't know how she is doing. Her area got hit worse than ours. I'll let them discuss their part in more detail if they want to.
I did read the Keys got some heavy rains and winds but nothing too horrible.
I also hope all is well for my fellow Floridians!
ETA: Well.... speak of the (Nancy) Devil. ;D Nancy I agree with you! I actually like small Hurricanes. Just enough storm to be exciting but not too destructive. Lightening and Tornadoes - No Thank You!!! We don't get earth quakes. Yay! Just sink holes now and then...

The latest on the news here is they think the storm is headed the direction of New Orleans... How many friends on the board live around there?

Sadly, it looks like New Orleans is a target again. East coast of FL for wind and rain, with areas south of me getting hit harder in terms of damage, and areas north of me getting the heavier rain. No issues at my house.

Actually I prefer tornadoes to hurricanes. They just kinda jump around. (And yes, I've had a relative who lost a house to a tornado.) Hurricanes seem to do a lot more damage. (In square miles....) Now blizzards I'm not very fond of.

I'm not fond of hearing the tornado sirens, especially when the start up in the middle of the night.
I never really minded the blizzards. It's just a way of life and we expected to get a couple bad ones every year; you know what's possible to do and what's not and are always pretty much prepared to hunker down and ride it out. I used to think it was fun (really!) to put on my cross country skis and ski to work but didn't get to do it often because the streets were usually already plowed early in the morning
I really really don't think I'd be wild about living where there are hurricanes, and when we lived in SFO, I was always waiting for The Big One. Sure was glad when I drove away for the last time.

Hopefully the coasts will be safe. The project path of its remnants have it travelling right over Arkansas and west Tennessee were we so need the rain. The rain will be welcomed.

Better hurricanes than earthquakes or tornadoes. At least with a hurricane, you get some warning. No earthquakes or tornadoes here. Think I'll stay put. When there is that rare tornado, it has always went around us. We get no earthquakes or hurricanes. The only area I would hate to live in is Haiti. Last year they were hit with two hurricanes, this year the one that's supposed to hit Florida and New Orleans has torn apart Haiti again.

Nancy!! I was wondering how you were doing, along with Florida Yankee, Cheese. POM, and cme, and others. I hope all is well for everyone. So far we've received sporadic rain and wind, so all is good. I'm just hoping that Issac doesn't pull a Charlie and suddenly switch direction. I really hope that it down grade and that everyone is safe.

Beags - great signature quote. -------------- So.Cal. was rockin' and rollin' with 70 quakers. Yeah, today. -------------- The hurricane must be raising h--l with the Gulf oil rigs. My DH worked one of those on start up; and they had to evacuate for a tropical storm. He said it was Keystone Cops wild. Everybody was sea sick. The crew quarters the size of a cruise ship had to be cut loose to weather the storm. The head honchos got in their helicopters and flew the opposite direction. ------------------- Back to topic. So far everyone is doing okay. Sleep well.

I cannot believe school is canceled tomorrow (my sisters are thrilled). It barely sprinkled today in Saint Pete and wasn't very windy. That's all it takes to cancel school? I wish those conditions were school cancellation worthy when I was younger

We were worried about the exact same thing. That was on Aug. 13th or 14th if I remember correctly and I was getting a little nervous. Has anybody heard from Florida Yankee? I've not seen him around lately. CME has checked in but I've not seen him today. New Orleans is getting hit the exact date that Katrina hit them! But Isaac's not supposed to be near as powerful. Flopsy - We just heard that on the news. I love St. Pete! Where did you move from?

So sorry . In a week I won't be here any more so no more rain. I did hear TX has tornadoes and cool air raid sirens, which I think is a step in the right direction

You really don't want to hear tornado sirens at 0300 in the morning. You have to scrape yourself off the ceiling and you can't get back to sleep either.

Having grown up on the coast & experiencing hurricanes all my young life, I kind of agree with you. Tornadoes in general don't cover a wide area (like hurricanes & earthquakes). Earthquakes do a lot of damage but generally aren't bad enough to drop your house around you ears. On the other hand hurricanes tend to do a lot of water damage & that's the big one because insurance companies tend to rule out water damage. Of course you can get water damage clauses but they tend to be really really expensive. Also because your located on the coast there tends to be a lot of mold afterward.
As far as saving lives, I think hurricanes are the least dangerous. Sure some people will stay & die in them but I cold heartedly look at it as a way to eliminate dumb people. Earthquakes & tornadoes tend to happen with little warning.

I feel for anyone in the path of this storm. Living in coastal NC most of my life has prepared me well for hurricanes. It was this time last year that Irene beat the crap out of us. Might have only been a cat 1, but it just sat here and pounded us. I hope that this one does what it's gonna do, and gets out of the way!

Tonados are often take place during Hurricanes. Tomorrow is a year since TS Irene crushed VT along with some other states. We are having a block party, think I will stick around up north. Hopefully there will be plenty of blizzards in the NE this winter.
Good luck NO

Should I go lay in a ditch or culvert with my hands over my head?
I do not recognize any of the cities/towns that the automatic warning system on the radio is mentioning. Still nothing more than a bit of rain and a light breeze in Clearwater
