I have gotten several phone calls over the last few days on my cell phone, that come up "Private". I answer and the person on the other end hangs up.
Is there any way of tracking this? I can go into my cell phone's web site and block numbers. I'm guessing that I can't block a number that is designated "private".

I don't know anything about cell phones-is there any way to forward calls to a computer or fax machine to see if the error msg would show the #?

But a lot of the ones I've had, come with a block feature that will not allow blocked callers. Check in your tools and settings and see if you can find something that stops blocked calls. Good luck!

Do you know someone who has an unlisted number on their home land line? A call made from an unlisted number would show up as "Private" on a cell - at least that's how my home phone gets displayed when I call my brother from it.

I have a dumb phone. Up until now, I thought it had all the features I needed. But now for some reason I am getting a rash of these calls and there is nothing I can do. Normally, I can go into my cell phone's website and block the call from there. I don't know if I can block anything that lists as 'private'.

I know a few, but normally I have their unlisted numbers in my phone and it comes up as belonging to XXXXX, not private.
The calls are hang up calls, I can hear someone on the other end, then I hear them disconnect.

Just keep searching through all your tools and etc. That has to be annoying. If not, then call your carrier or go by and ask them what you might could do.

Go going to be making a call to Sprint today. I hate doing it though. Don't feel bad about it. They will be able to tell you what to do and then you won't be bothered anymore. That's what they're there for. I hope you get your situation resolved. I have been through that exact thing. I ended up once, having to get the number changed.

Another possibility is they are collector calls for a guy and they hang up when you answer. Just a guess. When do the calls come in? Another possibility is a guy gave your number out at a bar and a couple of women are trying to call him and hang up when you answer.
Hard to know without knowing how your cell answers calls. If you are willing to spend some money my guess is you could do *69, call the number back and at least determine if it is the same number that is calling and hanging up or several different ones.
Just as a FYI, I recently received an updated department store CC agreement. One of the new provisions is they reserve the right to now contact you using any means they desire even if it is calling your cell and it costs you money. That's probably not it, but beware of handing your cell number to CC purveyors. They are probably trying to make collection efforts easier for them.

I just did some searching on Spring's site and the net, doesn't appear to be possible through Sprint's system. If you have a smart phone (we don't), you can install an app that routes private or unavailable calls to voicemail. Mich will be thinking no doubt in a few minutes about using that as an excuse to upgrade

I was always told by my provider that they cannot track a private call. Other than following the "pings" off of cell towers, but it doesn't give an exact location.
Then again, I don't have a smart phone . . . mainly because I don't want one.

All the calls have come in in the morning about the same time - between 10 and 11 am.
I am very picky about who gets my cell phone number. I've had it for 12 years now, so seriously doubt it was someone else's number.
The only ones who have my cell phone number are friends and family. I don't give it out to people who I don't know and I've never given it out to a guy in a bar.
I'm so paranoid about the number that when I need to give a phone number, I give out my old landline number, that I dumped 12 years ago when I went to cell only.
I really don't want a smart phone, mainly because I don't want to pay the increased costs of it. I'd probably rather pay for a data plan for my iPad instead.

Does this work on cell phones? Nope, doesn't. Just realized that the last call I got on my cell was the private call yesterday, so tried it.
Not valid.....
