So, employer switched health insurance plans again. Current providers are not in network so that means I'll be looking for new doctors, once again. I have been seeing doctors who practice in Family Medicine. But was wondering what the difference between Family Medicine and Internal Medicine, and if I should be seeing a doctor who practices in Internal Medicine.
I've done a basic internet search on differences between Family Medicine and Internal Medicine but would appreciate advice and suggestion from other folks.
I am relatively healthy and have no children.

I would opt for Family Practice. They have a broader perspective across all disciplines. Internal med seems to focus more on things like GI and stuff like that. Not, that either wouldn't be fine. I am sure they both are well qualified to care for you.

Another thing to consider is your family history and what kinds of health problems you can see cropping up in the near future.

The doctors I use are labeled internal medicine and I have really good luck with them.
I would ask friends and family for references or see if there is a referral line you can use.

I prefer my internal medicine GP. She seems to be a bit more comprehensive, than when I had someone from family practice.

My understanding is that the family practice docs see kids-adult. An internist will only see adults. The advantage of FP docs is that your whole family can see the same doctor. Mine is FP and a really good quality doctor.

I'd go with an internal doctor.

My doc is internal and I started seeing her when I was 15. They will see children because we have a pediatrician shortage around here. However, usually they only sees kids that have started puberty and are needing to phase out of pediatrics.

internal medicine is going to more all organ health, family practice is a step down in terms of "speciality" but will be better for kids and general health--that makes some sense I hope. Internal medicine is the health of your organ systems and they will be really good at spotting something wrong with those but maybe less focused on overall health of you as a whole but less likely to miss a true disease if that makes sense.
