Bloomberg reports ACA is upheld and individual mandate is constitutional as a tax. “If your family earns less than $250,000 a year, a quarter-million dollars a year, you will not see your taxes increased a single dime. I repeat: not one single dime.” oops..... LOL! that must have been why he defended it using the commerce clause.

Why? Congress passed it without reading it. that is very common, and candidly, it makes perfect sense. that doesn't mean that a staffer won't read it. they damn sure will.

Mandate is struck down (per CNN). I'm depressed Supreme Court upholds health care law - according to MSNBC - I want details! WOW - CNN was soooo wrong, they just put a correction on their website. This is sort of like Dewey defeats Truman! the mandate was not struck down, waffle. CNN is wrong. be happy. I am happy. I guess I should have added a smiley face aftter I added the fact that CNN had to put up a correction. Here it is now - ;D

this leaves the GOP but one course on this legislation: to try to have it repealed. they will run on that. i can't really say how that will work for them. Obama has not defended this legislation AT ALL in the last six months, so it is difficult to say. i think Lakoff is right in what he says about that: Obama's tactics are totally wonky. he will have trouble winning in the Fall if he doesn't fix that. Americans, by and large, don't like wonky.

for those that don't know, Roberts was the swing vote on this. that is not surprising. i have read some statements from him that indicated that might go this way.

These are usually the same comments he makes that the liberals rail against him for! You know, like companies over people and all that. This was a huge win for Pharma and insurance companies so I find it funny that liberals are applauding this since they seem to like to protest BIG BUSINESS.

The bits of the law that have been enacted thus far are hugely popular. If coverage for pre-existing conditions (closing the prescription drug donut hole, coverage for young adults on their parents' plans, you name it) blows up... there will be pressure on Romney and Obama to find a way to get it back. Obama is not dumb. Doling out the fun parts before the individual mandate hits was pretty shrewd. even the PHRASING of some of these provisions was masterful. this was a very very close vote. shit like that matters.

All I was getting at is that it is funny that Chief Justice John Roberts was the deciding vote in favor of keeping ACA intact. Yet, if you would have asked opinions about him last week, some of them would've been: "I wouldn't piss on him if he were on fire." It's just humorous that a man so vilified by liberals is now the key vote in saving the precious legislation they wanted saved. As to what it will do to this country: I don't know at this point. Time will obviously be the true test.

The irony hasn't been lost on me either. This whole debate started with liberals railing against the big evil insurance companies, but in the end made their dreams come true.

This whole debate started with liberals railing against the big evil insurance companies, but in the end made their dreams come true. that is because the ACA is not a liberal piece of legislation AT ALL. it is really something that the Republican congress would have drafted as an alternative to HillaryCare, if that ever went anywhere. the Democrats sold out liberals, and i would like to think that they would hold their feet to the fire for it- but what alternative to they have in November? Romney?

Deficits with an "m" at the end of it are now a thing of the past now that Obamacare has been upheld.
Our country will be Greece / Spain / Italy in the next 10-20 years.
Anyone here read the Fourth Turning? It's coming...
