Last year, TD and I went to Myrtle Beach with a group of my friends from college. My old college roommate and her husband own several condos on the ocean and we got their prize condo......4 BR, 4 BA where every bedroom opens up onto the ocean. Newly renovated, we were the first ones to stay in it last year.
We had a wonderful time last year, very relaxing with good friends and wine (did I mention that one of these friends has a wine cellar that is very well stocked?) and eating at some wonderful restaurants. Ruths Chris is tonight (dammit, I've always wanted to try this place).
So I get a call from one of them. They're all sitting out on the balcony, drinking wine. And WE'RE NOT THERE!!!
Next year.......

Bummer - here's hoping you're recuperated enough to make the trip next go-round.

No, we don't walk away. But when we're holding on to something precious, we run.

Ruths Chris is awesome.
Isn't there one sort of near TD's place? Pacific Northwest? I think there's one in Portland and Seattle...

Aw, Mich..... Something to look forward to and work for. Not that that helps at this moment, though. Crying might help, strange as it sounds. And it's fine, given what you've been though. It's easy for us to just say "we're sorry" or "don't worry, you'll get there next year." The reality is that you have a lot ahead of you, and only you know (along with your docs) just how much and how hard. We'll all celebrate with you when you get through this mess. Never been to a Ruths Chris, actually, although we have two in the area.

I know they were trying to let you know they were missing you, but that seems sort of mean in a way. Total bummer you couldn't go this year

It's not so much as being in Myrtle Beach as being with a group of people who are very dear to me. My friend was a college roommate when I lived in Lake Placid. Her husband was our lab partner and we made him catch bugs in Ecology. I've known them for over 30 years now. Their friends (and neighbors) I have known about 25 years now. We would party together every New Year's Eve.
This was the woman who got on a plane in Feb., flying alone when she's scared shitless of flying, to be with me after my surgery. If TD wasn't here to help me with my hip issues, she would be a contender (and has offered).
It's not so much as getting to try Ruths Chris (even though I have heard outstanding things about it), but being with people who have been a part of my life for a very long time, in a place where there are no worries in the world.
I know......my problems are not going to last forever. But impatience is setting in big time and my feet are getting itchy!

I understand. There is nothing in the world like being with old & dear friends. Myrtle Beach is pretty nice too.

Total bummer you couldn't go this year I don't think of it as mean, just that they were missing us. Missing this event just triggered some feelings that have been going on in my brain for awhile. As much as I love TD, I miss my life. It has been on hold for entirely too long and will have to be so for another 6 months. A year is a long time to leave your life......

A good cry might be in order. You are feeling sorry for yourself & getting bored. Put on a sappy movie, some wine if you are allowed & just cry. It helps

We can do a big virtual cry with you, if that helps...

If you took a picture of the view, pull it out and put it in a prominent place. That will help.

I would have been there this week with friends, but changed my mind. Busy month for me plus the heat/humidity down there sucks. However, my daughter and family will be leaving for Myrtle Beach next week.... to fry their butts off. The grandkids tell me they avoid the beach until close to dark because it's so hot. I don't mind the heat, but hate the humidity.
Mich, sorry you missed the trip. If TD was a good guy he would take you to Tahiti for a week or two.

Mmmmmmm, Tahiti sounds wonderful, especially if it is in one of those huts over the water.... My friend did mention that her son and his fiancée were talking about a destination wedding next year in Aruba. Other place suggested was at one of the wineries near the Fingerlakes. We've got an invite, regardless of where the wedding is.
