I just made a decision to stop my subscription to the daily newspaper. Being a bit older then many here, the daily paper has been important to me, and while I get my news on the Internet, cable, there was really nothing like spending a hour a day going from front to back over coffee , disregarding many but on the other hand also picking up the little stories that never make the headlines..but I realized , reading it less, Sundays rarely read ..except for the sports and most important the comics.
I did find three Internet sites for the comics and have now put them on my desk top, and have resumed old friends that my paper had dropped over the years....The Phantom, Curtis, Garfield and on and on..but was wondering if others are also interested in them, Comics ...basically almost a first read ..or it is just a bad out dated habit of mine..possible showing I am not really all there..which I have been accused of by some.{sigh}

I get the paper daily, but my wife reads it mostly on weekdays. I do read the Sunday paper and yes, since I was a little kid until now, the comics is the first section I read. These days, there's not too many I'm a big fan of; Dilbert, Garfield, the Lockhorns, Pickles for sure. My paper also mentions that they have the link on their website for the oldies like you mentioned; the Phantom, Beetle Baily, etc. that are not in print in our area. I haven't checked out that site yet, but I plan to.

I stopped reading the paper last year. I read my local paper now on line.
My favorite comic strip right now is Get Fuzzy.

We only get it on weekends. I still love sitting with a cup of coffee and reading it in the morning. Only comic I read is Dilbert.

I still find newspapers to be the best way to get news in one place. I find websites too scattered as far as approach and depth of information. I get the LA Times every day and typically read 80% of it. I supplement that with other miscellaneous news from the web.

I still read the comics in the paper. My favorite of all time is "Tundra". You should check it out, it's kind of a northern Far Side.

Avid comic reader here! My day is off when the paper is late or (god forbid!) doesn't show up at all.

Avid comic page reader as well. I like "Pajama Diaries" (a Jewish family version of "For Better or For Worse") and I read pretty much all the paper in the morning before work. I spent 12 years in the newspaper business, so old habits die hard.

The only one I truly enjoyed (besides Dilbert or The Wizard of Id) was The Far Side and our local paper no longer carries that one, so I rarely read the comics anymore.

I get a paper called The Villages Daily Sun local to Lady Lake here in Florida. I read it because I have nothing better to do. There is one comic strip called, Zits, that I really enjoy. Back home we do not get the paper. I read the on line version of the Boston Globe.

Thanks for the suggestion of ""Pajama Diaries" (a Jewish family version of "For Better or For Worse") I can relate, , googled it, put it on the desk top and will go back and pick some of the old ones to catch up and see if it's for me..."better or for worse " ..one of my favorites, baby blue , Luann, Curtis... plus..Don't get me started.. Here is a great site for those who want lots on one site, you can even set up so all favorites in order as to how you like them...glad to see , some others are hooked ..so many friends give me the cross eyed look if i mention Comics. I will add a few more links here too..other comics. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- www.seattlepi.com/fun/comic.asp?feature_id=Curtiswww.arcamax.com/babyblues {This site there is a list of the comics available on the left side of the page, just click and they are there} If your interested in the history of the comics , you can click on the 'history" and they give you a synopsis about that, and so many of theses originator story's, BIOS, so interesting , these are/were smart people by far. Most favorite.."for better or for worse " I had no idea how popular it was till did a google when it was stopped, she, originator stopped a year ago ..took the family right up to the end, deaths, future lives and is now starting all over again raising children again..{comic side} I think it is just the ability to escape for a few minutes out of the day to another place that makes them so important..at least for me..others, different reasons.

Heck, the comics are the ONLY thing worth reading in our local liberal rag.

I used to buy my dad a Far Side daily calendar every year when I was young. Also love BC (I think that's what it's called, haven't got to read it for a while) and some others. Our paper doesn't have really great comics anymore, but my 13 year old son still reads them every day--at least he finally started putting the paper back for me.

While I miss Calvin and Hobbes and the Farside thank goodness for Tundra and Dilbert. Our favorite here however is Zits. Maybe because we have 4 kids.

The first thing I did after graduating from college 36 years ago was get an apartment, then subscribe to the local daily paper. I can't imagine not getting it. Usually comics are saved until last. For a few years our paper carried 9 Chickweed Lane, but dropped it. I now read it online. There's a great site called "Comics I Don't Understand" ( comicsidontunderstand.com/wordpress/). If you love comics but sometimes are puzzled by one, check it out.

Does anyone read webcomics? Those that have been around EE a while know that I am partial to Cyanide and Happiness.

I read comics, and I love 'For better or For Worse'. I was sad when she stopped writing it last year but I'm enjoying the family now with the little kids. Michael has already met Dee.
I really like others also. Luann, Zits, King of Id, Garfield, Dennis ....... I'm a comic geek.
When I want a good laugh, I read 'Dear Abby'. Some things just can't be made up.

I take the paper every day. There's something comforting about kicking back in the recliner to watch the 6:00 news and read the paper. The comics are my favorite part, so I save them for last. ::::When I want a good laugh, I read 'Dear Abby'. Some things just can't be made up.::::
