I have a Beagle, as far as I'm concerned the sun rises and sets on her. Never asks for money, borrow the car or rolls her eyes when I am speaking.

my brother gave me a kitten and she died at age 13 in 2004. She didn't appear to be sick at all. Still jumping around and being playful. I think she gave up on life? I had recently brought home a kitten for my GF. My cat didn't like that much.

<<I think she gave up on life?>>
I doubt it, I would guess some variety of very fast acting illnesses or some kind of poisoning.

Sorry, I didn't mean to infer a deliberate act on your part or anybody else's. The fact remains that many things which a human can shrug off will be fatal to something as small as a cat. I have to be careful about what kind of houseplants I keep, as one of my cats will munch down anything green regardless of what toxins it may contain. The other one ignores all plants. No way can kitten food kill an adult cat. A little over a year ago, the plant eater developed a kidney infection. Since he's non-verbal, I had no clue until it reached an acute stage until it blocked his urethra and he couldn't pee. I was unaware until his bladder swelled to the size of a grapefruit and he was yowling in pain. That's what I mean by a fast acting disease, another day without going to the vet and I would have lost him.

Two cats - both rescues. So far they are healthy!
Two other cats who have died. One died old from diabetes caused by the meds we were giving him for the pancreatic cancer; the other from congestive heart failure that seemed to come out of no where - she was young, only about 7.
Like pets that are furry and huggable (within reason), but someone has to parent the spiders and scaly friends!

Hampton, sorry for losing your pet, it's tough losing a pet.
13 years isn't old for a cat but it's not young to lose a cat either.
