Where is it?
Usually, in my part of the world, we get a thaw of 2-5 days in January where the high temps are 35-40/more and all the snow & ice melt.
I am SOOO ready but Nada and nothing in the forcasts.

NE Ohio is experiencing a balmy 32 degrees at this very instant! Since it's been in the single digits and teens with wind chills at zero lately, I'm a happ(ier) camper. Maybe the furnace won't run so much! (Every time I see "Chicago" I start salivating for the Big Bowl!)

We're about 30 or 40 degrees warmer than yesterday, too. That -8 was brutal.
This is usually the coldest time of the year, and the beginning of blizzard season. Our thaw comes in late February. Sometimes it gets near 70, briefly.

I get a laugh seeing people here in South Florida buying garden plants in January. We still get freezes here, and probably will keep getting them through the end of February. I am missing my garden (I started some herbs indoors), but not missing it enough to risk losing plants outside.

We have warmed up to 12.2 F from -43.6 F (with the wind chill)

I know, right? I distinctly remember wearing shorts to mid-year exams back in HS, which were around this time....

The first nice week we get, everyone heads for the nursery. The past few days have been in the 50s, but it still drops to freezing at night. My annual beds will just have to remain empty for a few more weeks.

Well the temps are in the mid 70's today in Orlando ... so I can't complain! But I swear it really does get cold at night. I'm from PA, so I know what cold feels like!

We will be hitting the 40s on Thursday, so Orlando should be colder that that. I hope this is it. My banana trees are in shock.

We're currently 46 and foggy, forecast for 62 and foggy today ~ but it may not get that warm. We're forecast for 64 tomorrow ... but foggy and socked in.... so that often means the 50s. This is pretty typical January weather for us. Fog. Fog. Fog. Fog. Fog. Attachments:

Nancy, I'm a bit north of you...just over the Fl./Ga. line, but I planted my onion plants on Sunday. I was late getting them in, they should have gone in either late Dec. or very early Jan. ;D I was just thinking that I would pick up some broccoli & cabbage plants if someone has them! They will do fine in this weather even with a frost or 2 on them. I think it improves their flavor & it sure keeps the bugs/worms off them!

Our January has been warmer than usual and we don't have near the snow we ought to have this time of year. Hope we get some more moisture in the next few months so we will have plenty of water for our crops.

Sorry guys, I stole your sunshine. Usually we're rainy, snowy, cold, miserable during January, but since Saturday we've had some awesome sunshine I convinced my boss to let me work outside today instead of later this week (when it's supposed to start raining again) even though I wasn't feeling well. I enjoyed every second of the sunshine--even had to take my jacket off! I have no idea what the temp was but it was definitely not miserable.

We are in January Thaw for a few days. The slushy slop really messes up the car and streets then freezes to glare ice. I could rub dirty yellow snow on the faces of those snowbirds. I think I need to change my nik to gloom snoot.

There's so much snow here that the railing on the deck has disappeared. Nothing new I guess. Next year I think I will be in VA.

Here in NYC, we have what I call the "dirty snow parfait"...Black, hard snow, layered with unpicked up trash, layered with gray hard snow, layered with more unpicked up trash, layered with our lastest dose which is quickly getting dirty, sprinkle with yellow patches and animal poo! A visual treat I tell ya. I welcome any thaw...however the melting parfait will be difficult to navigate around...sigh.

It is snowing, and snowing, and snowing...not hard, just steady. You shovel. It keeps snowing. You shovel again. It's still snowing. You wait for it to stop snowing this time. Your car is now under a foot of snow. It's never going to stop snowing. I know this now and accept my fate.

We felt like we had a heatwave here as it got above freezing today. It won't last; we're in for more snow and a freezing mix later this week and colder temps. I'm wearing so much fleece to keep warm that I feel like a sheep. BAA!
