Maybe I’ve never been IN Love? To understand But I would say NO – love does NOT conquer all! So I was watching an episode of a TV show called the Good Wife. Their was an age 20 to 25 couple and she was about 1 month to 6 weeks pregnant. The boyfriend (NOT HUSBAND) had an idea to buy drugs, they went as a couple to buy drugs, the dealer tries to shoot the Boyfriend and the girlfriend fights with the dealer and ends up shooting and killing the dealer. NOW the deal was the first person to tell on the other gets 8 years in prison charged as an accomplice and the other gets 25 years. The boyfriend decides to take the 25 years forcing the girlfriend to do less time. And she is crying and having a fit he did that. Here is where the does love conquer all comes in. Neither of them wanted to tell on each other so that means THEY BOTH go to jail for 25 years. I couldn’t understand that?

If love could conquer all, TGH would have survived, and we'd be happily retired in Kentucky.

Love is a double edged sword, it can save you or destroy you.

There's a reason people love fairy tales and reading fiction romance... because it's a wonderful dream, but doesn't really happen. Call me jaded, but I still love my escapism.

No love does not conquer all. Especially when you're silly enough to love a damn fool.

Some people call me an optimist and others say I am waiting for something that no longer exists, but I believe it does. I choose to ignore examples shown on TV shows and instead choose to focus on the example provided by my parents who have been married almost 39 years.

I wouldn't have gotten myself in that situation either. As a matter of fact, I was dating a guy that I really felt like I loved. He was self employed and was a mechanic with his own shop. I found out that (one night when he was talking with a couple friend we were having dinner with) that one of his best friends sold drugs. Ironically enough this was to supplement her food stamp money.
Anyway, one day he brought some of her drugs to his shop and sold them for her. I broke up with him the next day because drugs are one of the things I will not tolerate. I was supposed to marry him in 8 months and I really thought I was "in love" (whatever that means).
All I could think of is if that were to continue and he was arrested how would that look for me? Or worse yet, what if he were in possession of drugs at some place that I was with him and I got arrested too? I gave him a chance to explain himself and he said his friends were important to him and he would do it again if she asked. He chose his friends over me and I am fine with that. So no - I don't believe love conquers all, but I sure would like to find the exception. lol.

not that it should make a difference of illegal drugs is illegal. But in the story from The Good Wife they are two college kids looking for something more than over the counter drugs to stay awake for final exams, as other kids were doing. I was watching another show called Hardcore Pawn and the woman has a great high paying job and her husband has a gambling problem and they now HAD to pawn their stuff to pay the mortgage . So her love for him conquers all?
Kygirl - only 1 question for love that conquers all - how many times does it take to forgive your man...partner making a repetitive mistake?

That I'd finally found "The One" using the example of my parents who have been married for 34 years... until my husband told me that he knew I had settled with him because he had found his soulmate... and it wasn't me... <shrug>

I think a marriage is more than just love. It's friendship too. Sometimes friends grow apart, but if you don't want that, you need to work on it. Relationships are not easy to maintain, it takes work. Love is an important part, but it's not everything. So, love can conquer a lot of things, but it takes work from both partners in the relationship.

Does love really conquer all?
I think if I had to rank things that conquered all it would be (skipping a bunch, of course):
A-Bomb
Stealth fighter
Abrams tank
Heavy weight boxing champ
Guy with a baseball bat
Red Rider BB gun
Love
Being attacked by an unarmed midget
Being nibbled to death by ducks
No I guess love doesn't conquer all. Heck it's pretty low on the list. Whoever came up with that saying must have been drunk at the time.

...well, if love covers a multitude of sins... AND makes the world go round... then I'd say that, by default, it must conquer all, too...
;D
