losangeles.cbslocal.com/2012/02/08/la-county-oks-1000-fine-for-throwing-football-frisbee-on-beaches/LA County OKs $1,000 Fine For Throwing Football, Frisbee On BeachesLOS ANGELES (CBS) — When you head down to the beach for a little fun this summer, county officials want you to leave the pigskin at home. The Board of Supervisors this week agreed to raise fines to up to $1,000 for anyone who throws a football or a Frisbee on any beach in Los Angeles County. In passing the 37-page ordinance on Tuesday, officials sought to outline responsibilities for law enforcement and other public agencies while also providing clarification on beach-goer activities that could potentially disrupt or even injure the public. The updated rules now prohibit “any person to cast, toss, throw, kick or roll” any object other than a beach ball or volleyball “upon or over any beach” between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Exceptions allow for ball-throwing in predesignated areas, when a person obtains a permit, or playing water polo “in or over the Pacific Ocean”. However, during the winter off-season, the new rules will be relaxed. Officials warned that any activities that could potentially harm “any person or property on or near the beach” should not be allowed during the peak summer season. Your kids could also end up costing you big bucks: the ordinance also prohibits digging any hole deeper than 18 inches into the sand except where permission is granted for film and TV production services only.

Sounds like they need more to do. Personally, I'd rather be hit by an errant frisbee than a volleyball.

The beaches are nice in the winter.

With all the financial problems going on all over CA you would think they just 'might' have better things to do.
Oh. Wait. This just might help solve the financial issues. 10 fines/week = 10k/week = 520k/year. Now if they can get that up to 100 fines/week we are talking REAL money (for a gov).

LA, like the rest of CA, is having all kinds of financial problems. Whenever a govt entity has financial problems and needs to raise revenue, the best source is the middle class.

They've um, "clarified" the policies now that Rush spent the first hour of his program on this stupidity...

They've um, "clarified" the policies now that Rush spent the first hour of his program on this stupidity... But as far as the $1,000 fines the media reported for kicking a ball, that also was wrong.
A first infraction for playing in the nondesignated area can be up to $100. A second infraction is $200, and a third can be up to $500 in a 12-month period. ...
The ordinance does have some $1,000 fines written into it. You can't be nude ... www.mercurynews.com/breaking-news/ci_19937126 I can see where Rush would be really upset by this.

I agree with the above statement but I think that there's more to this.
Sure this is a minor thing, even if you get caught & have to pay a little fine. It's not a big deal in itself & a big part of it is just about money. It's the other part that I have a problem with because we see this stuff all the time. That's loss of personal rights. Slowly over time these minor & stupid laws are eating away at personal freedoms. The fact that many are laughable helps cover up the fact that each day individual freedoms are being taken away. More & more society is changing from the rights of the individual to the rights of the many. One day we as a people are going to look up & see that we are so restricted by "little" laws that the government is going to use that as a stepping stone to further restrict us with bigger laws in areas that do matter. Just something to think about.

People vote with their feet. They also can vote out these laws. The fact that most people are too lazy to vote out politicians they hate and who hate them back except for stealing their tax dollars to buy more votes and to increase their inflated salaries and benefits, well, you don't have to be a sheep going to the slaughter unless you choose to be. If the middle class would unite and get politicians that made laws that benefited them, they'd be a lot happier.
