Housing prices were inflated by increasing demand to create "equity" which people could borrow against allowing consumer demand to continue in spite of stagnant wages. something like 100% of wage increases during the Naughties went to increases in medical care costs. it was definitely a decade of tears.

"If a Republican wins this year, I agree with you that is a possibility. I think that Americans will give Republicans one more shot, this year or 2016 before electing a non-Democrat/Republican." The table is already set for whoever wins this next election. IMO we need to get Obama out regardless who the other candidate is just to try and slow this train down but we will not likely see any directional change until a third party can get control of the current political monopoly. i disagree. getting him out at all costs is not a good idea at all. he is a moderate republican, and he will govern from the middle. that is another way of saying that he will not get anything done, and will take all the blame for what happens. i like that. we can get a better candidate in 2016, and in the mean time, i am confident that he would not govern much, if any different than Romney, so there is no point trading the devil that i know for one i don't.

It would be good news if it was totally true.'
The fact is, that are not counting the ones that have given up looking for a job. There are over 12 Million people unemployed. there are layoffs coming just from one Airline alone. Over 13, 000.
Its an election year.. The want Obama elected again.. #'s get fudged and falsified.
And for the record, I do not blame Obama for the start of this problem, however, I do blame him for making it worse with his failed polices.. one being the Stimulus..

Well history would speak otherwise. We got just rid of the devil we knew and ended up with a worse one. I think there is enough pressure on anyone new to make some directional changes that there would at least be some retraction in our deficit spending.

After Florida, does this mean we don't have Newt to kick around any more?

I think that our best president was Harrison. He up and died after only 30 days in office, which did not seem to bother anyone much. I mean, with a slogan like "Tippicanoe, and Tyler, too", everyone knew that he was the right man for the job!

Awesome news - decrease unemployment rate by completely discouraging your citizen base and cause them to drop out from the actively looking crowd.

We've had it. We want a conservative. If a president is going to destroy America, best to hang it on Obama. America doesn't- the GOP is not going to win with a 'conservative' - at least not the far right type that the term has been modified to refer to.

Republicans don't seem to understand that the RINOs they insult are their best chance of winning the white house.

www.zerohedge.com/news/record-12-million-people-fall-out-labor-force-one-month-labor-force-participation-rate-tumbles-[/b] Looks like the good folks at the BLS heard us:
it appears that the people not in the labor force exploded by an unprecedented record 1.2 million. No, that’s not a typo: 1.2 million people dropped out of the labor force in one month! So as the labor force increased from 153.9 million to 154.4 million, the non institutional population increased by 242.3 million meaning, those not in the labor force surged from 86.7 million to 87.9 million.
Which means that the civilian labor force tumbled to a fresh 30 year low of 63.7% as the BLS is seriously planning on eliminating nearly half of the available labor pool from the unemployment calculation. As for the quality of jobs, as withholding taxes roll over Year over year, it can only mean that the US is replacing high paying FIRE jobs with low paying construction and manufacturing. So much for the improvement."[/quote]

You're right. I forgot Bush 41, who is famous for calling Reaganomics "voodoo economics" got re-elected in 1992 after compromising with Democrats. Oh, wait- no, he didn't. He got beat. He got beat because the GOP base was so disenchanted with him after he broke his no new taxes pledge, that it paved the way for a looney 3rd party candidate. After that Bob Dole lost, Bush won in a squeaker we all remember against a rambling loon, won re-election because John Kerry was old and white, and then John McCain got beat after an exasperated nation finally determined that McCain = Bush. The reason people like you indicate that RINOs are electable in spite of all the evidence to the contrary is that deep down, you know they're not. I mean, there's practically a liberal cheering section for RINOs every campaign cycle, because you know they're weak. And then there's the fact that we could nominate Barney Frank in the GOP and by the time the general election rolled around, you'd have him painted as someone to the right of Attila the Hun.

By the time the general rolled around he would be to the right of Attila the Hun. In order to get nominated a candidate has to swing way to the right in order to appeal to the evangelical base. The democratic candidate has to swing way to the left and appeal to the commies. They both spend the general tacking back to the middle and trying to convince us that they aren't nut jobs, while also trying not to piss off the whackadoodles on the fringes too much.

This is the mythology. But it wasn't true of Jimmy Carter and Barrack Obama who are, in fact, far left. Reagan is the closest thing to a true blue conservative we've ever had, and his ideas are so mainstream that you can find Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Barrack Obama defending Reagan's notion of the effects of taxation in December 2010 as they extended the Bush tax cuts.

IMHO, I really don't see it making a hill of beans who we elect. The job we need done to fix our country is impossible. Too many groups of people with different agendas won't let the needed changes happen. Look at the uproar when Obama tried to do something about healthcare. We just keep slapping new paint on our termite infested falling down house and it's not making for a stronger house. I don't know. If the mode of one/two term(s) Democrat - one/two term(s) Republican is broken, it will signal that a significant number of Americans are ready for change.

... I'm sure most are ready, but we're just not sure how to go about making the needed changes. I feel like we are a body with no head. I am not sure most are ready. I will be sure when we stop re-electing the same, interchangeable, people over and over again.

"Nevermind the seasonal adjustment- the raw numbers are that 2.9 million people lost their jobs in the last 30 days..."
Paul, these would be jobs that were gained ahead of the Christmas season. If they were counted as gains at that time but not counted as losses now, you'd have a point. But seasonal adjustment goes both ways.

Nevermind the seasonal adjustment- the raw numbers are that 2.9 million people lost their jobs in the last 30 days... horseshit. there is a difference between losing a job and quitting, Paul.
