Hope and Change in Moberly Missouri, a middle America town that undoubtedly hopes to have the next four years bring a change so it can pay it's bills again. After 19 years running state unemployment offices across northern Missouri, Steve Moore can rattle off the names of shuttered factories in this old railroad town with ease.
There's Matcor Automotive, a parts manufacturer that at its peak employed 300 workers but closed in June 2010 in response to declining production by General Motors. Textbook publisher Scholastic Inc. is closing its Moberly packaging center, costing the town another 100 jobs.
Then there's the biggest blow of all: the failed promises of Mamtek U.S. Inc., a Chinese-owned artificial sweetener factory offered about $17 million in state tax incentives and $39 million of local bonds that went belly up in 2011 when the company couldn't make the bond payments. More than 600 promised jobs went up in smoke, with the deal now facing scrutiny by Missouri lawmakers and a pair of investigations by the state's attorney general and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
"There was a lot of anticipation, and then a lot of disappointment," Moore said. "Let's be honest. Everybody had hoped that something was going to come out of it." www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5j0zaM7-nq8G65LriI5OHApveHoLQ?docId=355502bcbd374e7a8a23dc33d953b7ca

Last night is why Obama is virtually assured of a second term. Personally, I think, even with an intransigent, obstructionist Congress which just doesn't want to do anything (and this should give him some sympathy), he still comes out as a 6.6. That tells me that Newt and Mitt (what kind of stupid names are those), come in at, about 4.3. They just don't have the goods to bring to the table. Since I do support him..Obama, though have points of argument with him too, but over all still support him , I am hoping your correct , but am not so sure that it will be a cake walk and a guarantee.. Jobs are still the issue..unemployment and the debt..certain areas of the country are getting better..Ct just went to 8.2% unemployment [the official one/ lowest rate of in ages ] but my state, FL , think still at about 10 % .. but agree , so far, the other side, not impressing me and Newt with all his baggage..to me one of the big ones was his hounding Clinton on the extra marital...the gate all for nothing and allowing Star to spend $50 million in a futile chase of non facts...yet he was carrying on as he did..and he feels no prob, hes a changed man now , all is forgiven? LOL and thats just one of his little foibles, transgressions..

You should have listened to his speech on teamwork. One couldn't have done it without the other. And how's the "Mission Accomplished" thing going? It was higher than that at the beginning of his term. Let me guess, you're extremely disappointed that Obama didn't solve everything by February 1st. If you don't like the "innocent until proven guilty" line of thought, you can move to China any time you'd like. Buh-bye! "Your assuming" just as much by implying that he is. I'm sure your handy-dandy Madame Cleo crystal ball will tell you. Also next time you make/comment on a list like that, I heard milk of magnesia might help with all the bile and sour grapes. more people = internetz trollz who have nothing better to do than scour the internet, looking for internet polls to give an F to Obama, because their "WAHHHHH OBAMMMAAAAH" is on overdrive. Sorry, those polls aren't very random in population sampling, and it's not hard to vote multiple times on them. Try a more realistic and scientific one: "State of the Union: 91 percent approve of Obama proposals" www.thegrio.com/politics/state-of-the-union-91-percent-approve-of-obama-proposals.phpFYI, the next whatever Obama does, you'll give it an F; I'm sure you'll find something bad if he found a cure for cancer. The big red F rubber stamp meme treatment isn't winning any arguments. Well, they're actually just unsubstantiated self declared victories rather than arguments, but I'm sure you get the point. "Romney's Bain made millions as S.C. steelmaker went bankrupt" "MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Boston-based Bain Capital LLC more than doubled its money on GS Industries Inc. — the former parent company of Georgetown Steel — under Mitt Romney's leadership in the 1990s, even as the steel manufacturer went on to cut more than 1,750 jobs, shuttered a division that had been around for 100 years and eventually sank into bankruptcy." www.kansascity.com/2012/01/14/3370204/romneys-bain-made-millions-as.htmlRomney doubled his money, so how could he have cut his losses? Ever notice how some Conservatives will tell you up is down when it benefits their argument? That's a funny word for vulture capitalist. Or is it another "up is down" thingie?

I think I heard O'Reilly says he pays 39% of his working income. Does it really matter to the Liberals anyway, If all the millionaires paid 100% of their incomes, it would not make a dent in the debt deficit. Jobs, jobs, jobs is what the people will be voting on. That's the long and short of it and most of the States are close to 10% as of now. The reason for the Bush era tax cuts in the first place so that those with the money will create jobs, which we all see really did not happen. But hey, if you are a venture capitalist, you are not creating jobs, in most instances the end result is the loss of jobs. The only people that remain employed are the lawyers, paralegals and secretaries that work on these types of deals for their clients. Mergers and acquisitions are murder to corporate employees. If some way an acquired company survives, a lot of people still lose their jobs. For example, they don't need four people to do the job of two. I see it in law firms all the time, law firms merge and they have a glut of administrative staff, those that don't have equity partners to back them and save them from the chopping block are let go.

Yikes I guess I touched a tender spot here. Sorry some of these seem pretty obvious. I happen to be one of those independents who don't like much about what the Republicans were doing and really don't like what he's doing. Seems like his most ardent supporters think anything good that happens is his credit but anything bad is Bush's fault or the Tea Parties fault or Fox News fault. Quote:OUR PRESIDENT: 1. Got Osama bin laden...I thought it was Seal Team 6! You should have listened to his speech on teamwork. One couldn't have done it without the other. And how's the "Mission Accomplished" thing going? So... where was the mention of teamwork in the original post? We all know how "Mission Accomplished" worked out for Bush. We don't know how it will work for Obama in Iraq. Hopefully well. Quote:2. unemployment rate down to 8.5%...Hopefully you meant up to 8.5% It was higher than that at the beginning of his term. Let me guess, you're extremely disappointed that Obama didn't solve everything by February 1st. Wrong it was 7.8% at the start of his term and yes I'm very disappointed at this lack of leadership and economic knowledge. Quote:Same wife for 15 years with no extra marital affairs...Your assuming quite abit here. If you don't like the "innocent until proven guilty" line of thought, you can move to China any time you'd like. Buh-bye! "Your assuming" just as much by implying that he is. I made no assumptions in my reply just noted that you were. None of my business if his marriage is open or not but if we don't stop borrowing all this money from China we will all be controlled by them. Quote:10. Assisted in ousting Ghaddafi...Would it of happened with out him??? Did you not hear his speech about teamwork? Quote:I took that test too on my MSN homepage and the majority gave him an "F" too. I guess more people are disgruntled than we see on here. more people = internetz trollz who have nothing better to do than scour the internet, looking for internet polls to give an F to Obama, because their "WAHHHHH OBAMMMAAAAH" is on overdrive. Sorry, those polls aren't very random in population sampling, and it's not hard to vote multiple times on them. The big red F rubber stamp meme treatment isn't winning any arguments. Well, they're actually just unsubstantiated self declared victories rather than arguments, but I'm sure you get the point. I actually happen to be slightly left and libertarian leaning based on a recent survey and like some of the things he has done. I also really dislike some major things he has done. I happen to like some things that he has said he wants to do but talk is cheap with politicians and unfortunately most do not happen and his constant blame game has made him a very ineffective president.

His State of the Union did get an overall "F" and so does his lack of responsibility, discipline and leadership. People are sick of his vacant words with no results. I see he got his vote this morning for borrowing another 1.3 trillion. Really, what a sad state we are in. They interviewed seniors in Florida this morning and 40% of them make up the vote there. Everyone of them said "anyone but Obama".

"His State of the Union did get an overall 'F'..."
Why? What criteria are we grading on here?
Delivery? The man is an above average orator. I don't think this was his best work ever, but he's solidly in B+ territory.
Content? He touched on the military, social issues, American values, taxes, the national deficit, education, unemployment, the environment, lack of Congressional productivity... Was there an issue of concern to you that he didn't address? I'd give him an A for breadth.
Policies? Several of the issues he proposed have bipartisan support. A couple of times he brought up things that are supported by most Republicans and not most Democrats. Maybe you disagree with most of what he said, but I'd be surprised if you disagreed with all of it. So give him a C- or a D.
But all this "his speech gets an F" nonsense makes it sound like you didn't even hear what he said. (and I'm not trying to pick on you diamonds - you were the last poster, but not the only one who has said this)
Like it or not, this is the only President we're going to have for the next 12 months. This is the only Congress we're going to have. If we shut down every possibility for the next year just because we don't like the messenger, we're going to be 12 months further up $#@! creek at the next inauguration. Seems to me like we should all start paddling instead.

He didn't bluther overly long on each topic, he provided factual examples on some points and transitioned with ease from one topic to the next. He has good writers on his team.

He's the leader of the country, but he has a small problem...he doesn't seem to have the capacity to lead or negotiate his way out of a paper bag. He had no clue about what he was getting into from the beginning: no experience in running anything, no experience in foreign affairs, and little experience in government. We've been subjected to his presidential on-the-job training at the cost of trillions of dollars to generations to come. One can only hope that over the next 12 months he won't do much more damage.

The F came from a majority of respondents to an MSN vote poll. This was not the opinion of some posters here on the board. No matter their personal reasons for voting the way they did it means that either most voters are stupid, partisan, racists or that he was not effective in delivering a speech they liked or believed. Don't shot the messengers analysis the cause. For me? I like many things about the guy personally. He speaks convincingly, has charisma, charm, energy... but when I look at his track record like his leadership abilities, his lack of knowledge on economic principles, what has happened to our national debt on his watch, his defense of appointees who probably should not even have been considered, his blaming/attacks on his opposition I realize he has limited himself to being ineffective as President and his speech suddenly just becomes words directed at getting votes. How many people heard him say that he wants to use 50% of the money that was being spent in Iraq to pay down our national debt and thought that would be a good idea? Now how many woke up the next morning and said wait a minute how can we pay off national debt with borrowed money?

It was not my intention to shoot the messenger (I don't do guns) - just to point out that the F rating clearly wasn't about the speech. A point that dancinmama was kind enough to illustrate. Shutting down everything Obama says just because he is the guy saying it doesn't get us anywhere. And you know what they say... if you're not part of the solution... (...you're part of the precipitate.)

National debt 14 trillion $14 trillion national debt was so last year. Try $15.27 trillion. It was 10 Trillion when Obama started and it is now 15 trillion(slightly rounding these numbers) Obama has raised the national debt by 33% in comparison to 30 other presidents he is by far the worst financial president we have ever had in one term.

I stand by my "F" as it was just another one of his campaign speeches, like the first time around and his hope and change has failed. First he promised transparency when it came to Obama Care and was going to televise it on C-Span for all to see. Didn't happen that way, did it? Second, he promised for 2 summers it would be the summer of recovery. He did give us Cash for Clunkers the first summer, but last year he laughed with his buddy Jeffrey Immelt when asked where were the "shovel ready jobs"? There were none. He let the unmeployment numbers spiral out of control and most states are in double digits now with high foreclosures and getting a loan from the companies that were bailed out is impossible. He bypassed Congress vote and sent drones over Libya. He makes it clear he does not get along with Netanyahu who is our ally. ok, in his speech he said he is open to all types of alternative energies and will move forward with that. Really? Then why did he reject the Keystone Pipeline? He is excused for his bad investment in Solyndra, and Eric Holder is excused for his Fast and Furious dealings. This speech was nothing but the same old rhetoric and if he didn't man up in the first 3 years, he will not do what he says now. He admits we are no better than 3 years ago and he wants to run on a failed record? Get your buds in the Senate to pass a solid budget as it is 1004 days now and stop blaming the Replicans as they submitted 30 different budget bills and cuts to you already. Rahm Immanuel jumped ship just in time and others will too. His buddy Geithner says he will probably leave, but no loss there with that tax cheat. As I said, most have tuned him out as he has failed the American people

I thought there were parts stolen from previous presidents--- "Reagan , talking about his TERFA, which raised taxes on the wealthy, because, as he claimed many of them were paying less than bus drivers------------<<<"And what about fairness for families? It's in our families that America's most important work gets done: raising our next generation. But over the last 40 years, as inflation has shrunk the personal exemption, families with children have had to shoulder more and more of the tax burden. With inflation and bracket-creep also eroding incomes, many spouses who would rather stay home with their children have been forced to go looking for jobs. And what of America's promise of hope and opportunity, that with hard work even the poorest among us can gain the security and happiness that is the due of all Americans? You can't put a price tag on the American dream. That dream is the heart and soul of America; it's the promise that keeps our nation forever good and generous, a model and hope to the world. For all these reasons, this tax bill is less a freedom—or a reform, I should say, than a revolution. Millions of working poor will be dropped from the tax rolls altogether, and families will get a long-overdue break with lower rates and an almost doubled personal exemption. We're going to make it economical to raise children again. Flatter rates will mean more reward for that extra effort, and vanishing loopholes and a minimum tax will mean that everybody and every corporation pay their fair share. And that's why I'm certain that the bill I'm signing today is not only an historic overhaul of our tax code and a sweeping victory for fairness, it's also the best antipoverty bill, the best profamily measure, and the best job-creation program ever to come out of the Congress .. " yeah that!

He needs to go and take his Chicago type friends and policies with him, including Bernacke, Geithner, Frank, Immelt, Holder and his other enablers such as Pelosi. "Spread the Wealth" and all his other little catch phrases like "Fair Share" are from his Socialist handbook. That doesn't bode well with the belief in Capitalism or the American people.
P.S. Take all your czars with you. I'm sure Van Jones will be there welcoming you with open arms.

Right, how man Chiefs of Staff quit already? Was Daley #3 or 4?
Another dynasty in Chicago Poltics, the Daley family. Maybe Obama can work for him back in Chicago, although I'm sure he's had his fair share of Obama's way or the highway.

I think Hitler was a better orator, as far as policies besides the whole genocide thing they both are socialist are they not? That's what my roommate said about Hitler. He claimed to be a Socialist and a German Nationalist.

That or she see something really bad foreign wise that is about to happen and doesn't want to be stuck with the blame.

There's a video clip where Free-Willy states the country is going in the wrong direction. I do feel for Hillary as she has worked hard doing her job and seems to get along with all the heads of States, wheras Obama shows his negative emotions, although I see he doesn't like to be criticized as Jan Brewer did today. He is too thin-skinned.

sarah, what's your problem now? You asked why I give Obama an "F" on his performance and I told you. I guess you don't like to hear the truth. Sucks sometimes.
