Alright, my taxes are a mess. I need help. I don't know what state of residency I am supposed to claim. We are military and we lived in Michigan until June of 2011. We then moved to Kansas at the end of June 2011. While in Michigan we had to claim residency in order to get the homestead tax on the house we bought. I worked and had taxes taken out of my check. DH never changed his LES from TX to Michigan and we just usually ended having to pay in a little bit every year. When we moved to Kansas they told me I could claim the same state as my husband claims as his Home of Record. I told them ok, on his LES it is TX. Well, they never changed my W4 to Texas. They put it through as Kansas. Now I am trying to do my taxes on Turbo tax and they are asking me my state of residency. It says I can claim the same state as my husband, but I have paid taxes now to Michigan and Kansas! What do I do? Should I just suck it up and go to the tax people on base and have them do my taxes? Or can someone here tell me how to fix this jumbled mess on Turbo Tax? Thanks, and I hope this all makes sense.

the treatment of miliary personal and their family (who go to where their family member is stationed can get confusing).... here is Michigan's rules... www.michigan.gov/taxes/0,1607,7-238-43513_44135-156333--,00.html www.michigan.gov/taxes/0,1607,7-238-43513_44135-234013--,00.html here is Kansas's rules... www.ksrevenue.org/scra.htmlwww.ksrevenue.org/pdf/pub2848.pdfwhile turbo tax is a fine product for many, you may be in line for some professional assistance.... remember with any do it yourself tax preparation (turbo tax, and others) if you do not put in the data correctly you will not get a correct result....
