This is absolutely NOT a criticism of the board, ProBoards, Moon, or any of the mods, but I just wanted to throw out there that if the chance to improve the board functions comes along, I'd like to suggest a "Mark as Read" button...or is there one here already and I am too blind and stupid to find it? ?

When it is unread it says "New" next to it. That goes away when you read it. And then comes back when a new post shows up on it.

I am embarrassed to reveal exactly how long it took me to discover that "new" button.

I think the board should have more explosions.

Thanks, everyone. I've seen the "new" tag on the subject line, but it only appears for me when the thread is new, not when a new post is added. And MJ, I'll go look for the Wish List thread. But, I really want a button at the top of each thread that will mark the thread "read". Other board hosts (i.e., not PB) have them. I like having my threads whittled down for me without me having to look to see when the last post was made. Am I lazy, much? Yeah, probably. But, it's mostly that sometimes I only have a few minutes to pop in here and lurk and it would be nice to just get the current threads, kwim? I apologize if I'm being selfish.

I think the board should have more explosions. Well, I've seen threads that have imploded. Is that close enough?

Board Improvement
You can improve your boards by first sanding them to remove any splinters or rough spots and then apply a few coats of a sealant to protect the board from weather. You can also improve your board with a nice primer (if you have a freash board that has never been painted) and a few coats of paint.
I hope that this has not helped! ;D

Are you sure about that? Because for me, it is new whenever a new post is added. I really can't imagine that it works differently for you and me. And if it does, there is probably a setting you can change in your profile. I really don't think that proboard writes multiple programs to run the same thing and randomly runs the programs depending on the users. I really think you should double check your perception of the functionality.

Nope, the only way I can quickly know if there has been a new post to a thread is because it moves up to the top of the line of threads. I'm mostly looking for a way to manage some of the longer threads. Sometimes, those many pages become unwieldy. It would be nice to mark those as read so that only the most recent post shows up, kwim? Cuz, otherwise, I have to move my mouse... ;D

So, am I the only person that gets "new" when it is a new post?
And, if the new ones come to the top (which they do) - why not just start at the top?

No, the "NEW" icon shows when someone posts in a thread. It's how I follow threads.

I usually check the New Topics button, and then the "new" shows up on anything I haven't read (as long as I am logged in).

So, am I the only person that gets "new" when it is a new post? And, if the new ones come to the top (which they do) - why not just start at the top? You're really going to make me come clean on how very lazy I am when it comes to message boards, aren't you. ;D *Sometimes* we have a great deal to say about a certain highly-intellectual subject so threads run 7, 20, 50, 300 pages long. When I click the link to the thread, the first page of that lengthy thread comes up, and then I have to actually move my mouse to the little box and change it to the page number I want and then hit "GO". (For whatever reason, my mouse or my fine motor skills, I can never seem to hit the number link to the page I want.) That is a lot of work. And, if I am reading the boards on my phone, that's even more work because my keyboard is so small and it covers most of the screen and I can't see what I am doing until I hit "DONE". Other board hosts...okay...AOHell...allows one to hit "Mark Thread as Read" so that only the most recent posts show up. Certainly we're as good, if not a whole lot better, than AOHell, right? Or, maybe I *am* just too freaking lazy and it would take way too much work to put a Mark as Read button. Go ahead, you can be honest with me, I'm not fragile... ;D

Before you go into the thread, when you see it on the menu list, just click the last page # under the thread tiltle and it'll take you directly to the last page of that thread.

If you click on the "new" button it will take you to the last post you haven't read.
But only on multi-page threads.

There IS a Mark as Read button on the threads menu. I want one in the thread so I can mark a particular thread read. Please?

At the risk of appearing Doxie-like with respect to board functions, sometimes I am not caught up to date on a thread, and I need page 11 when the rest of the world is on page 33. It's a lot of work to navigate to page 11, , but if I could personally mark each thread where I left off, I could jump right to it. <<<<<------I must "sound" as if sitting still and breathing is hard work, LOL.

Okay, I'm experimenting (and NO, I didn't experiment with pharmaceuticals when I was younger)...
I hit Mark as Read on the thread menu for EE. Then I hit "New Topics" at the top of the page and narrowed it to EE. It still gives me all of the posts for those new topics. I am also not sure if "New Topics" includes new posts to old topics...I am assuming not.
I know, I know. Paper bag. Both ends cut off. I'd get lost...

The New Topics area give you the latest posts from everywhere. But, you can limit it to EE (or any other NotMSN board if you are so inclined to wander). But, you don't get *new* posts to old threads, right? So, if next week someone posts to a Christmas thread, it won't pop up under New Topics, only rise to the top of the thread menu, correct?

Well that explains why you aren't getting the "new" button. When you hit "Mark as Read" ALL the "new" buttons go away. So, stop hitting that and the new buttons will work for you.

The New Topics shows the 30 most recent posts, period. If what your looking for is the 31st newest post, you will be SOL (or have to go to the particular Board to see it).
