This thread is no fun. You all (and me too!) leave babies in the daycare and don't even cry! Oh the humanity! How could we!! Suziq needs to show up and derails us all! Bad mothers all of us.....

My friend uses this kind and she's put them through the dish washer for the past several months and they haven't come off. I want to have to do as few things as possible before leaving the house each morning, but if a sharpie works- that's fine with me.

I'm going to have my baby bottles laser etched. Bonus if I can do one of those cool 3d laser art deals that looks like the baby.

Does Mikasa make baby bottles? I'm just thinking glass might not be good enough.

Good Decisions, It seems clear that you are too close to the situtation to read this correctly. Take 3 steps back.
You do not pay your retailer enough for them to know every item in the store. You are asking for boutique service but you are not in a boutique.
This is like strolling into 7-11 and whyning that they don't have any healthy food. Yes, you were close, you went to a store that sold food, just not the type you wanted.
Interestingly, you were very annoyed when a person made you go find your item youself. Yet, you enjoy internet shopping where one of the hallmarks is finding everything yourself.

No, I was not annoyed that they made me go find the item myself. Like the subject line reads, just say "I don't know". I was annoyed that they said they didn't have an item that they actually did sell and it was in stock. It also made me wonder how many times I've left a store empty-handed because I made the mistake of asking a clerk if they sold an item. I am normally perfectly content to never seek help from a store clerk, but I'm new to buying baby stuff. In both instances, I had already searched the store, but wasn't look in the right place and was about to leave when I thought to ask. I stuck around longer because I've had time to kill with the baby and found the items I was looking for.

I really misread that sentence with the worlds "kill" and "baby" in it.

Yikes! Well my maternity leave is ending and I will have no more time to kill the baby.

I'm pretty sure (as someone else mentioned) most retail employees are trained to NEVER say "I don't know."

The apathy in customer service today is abhorable. (And that comment makes me look and feel much older than my 30 years... ) Didyou mean abhorrent? or deplorable? I guess that abhorable would be a combination of the two...very creative.

I forgot to say earlier, that my strategy for stores like Home Depot is to ALWAYS ask at least 2 people, sometimes more. Invariably, the first person I ask will just say "we don't have that".
Another trick that is especially effective in Home Depot (but could be used elsewhere) is to take a picture of the item and show that to the clerk... if not bring in the item itself. That last one was very effective when I needed "those clips you use to attach a valance onto a blind".
...:::"try Lennox, or better yet, Swarovski.":::...
Mikasa is better. Lennox and Swarovski are well known because of marketing. I feel like Mikasa is a well kept secret.

That's a good idea and I also think asking the "mature" person is also a good idea.

Yet another topic you know WAAAY too much about for a straight man! Yeah I have to agree. Although if I'm going clothes or bag shopping or furnishing a house, I might want to take him with me. I went and helped my aunt out when she moved into a new house. We asked a guy at Lowes or Home Depot where bathtub stoppers were. He told us the aisle, side of aisle, position down the aisle, and what shelf the bin was on. I was amazed! Of course this was in Knoxville and things are very different as you start going south.

My brother is in management at Lowes. They are trained never to point, and to escort the customer to the item, or give a specific location. If the don't know, they are supposed to check the computer.

Why do I feel like you could make money selling laser etched baby bottles in this area? You could let parents select their own seal to etch onto the bottles.

Maybe Lowes changed somewhere along the way. I know at the one back home I used to hate going. I could never find what I wanted, couldn't find anyone to help me and if you did manage to find someone they couldn't help you find what you wanted. We used to joke that you had to trip someone so you could ask them a question.
Based on my prior experiences I was estatic that the guy told us where to find the item at. I think he offered to take us to it but we told him it wasn't necessary.
A couple people I know went to work there so now I just look for them. My grandma's nephew designs kitchens so I can usually find him back in that area.

Isn't it one of the items excluded from the 20% coupon?

Back to the general concept of clueless store employees...
At Costco, there was a food sampler cooking sausage. I asked if it had any MSG in it. I got a very empatic "NO! No MSG!" So, I tried it, and it was good. I asked where they were, and she pointed me down the freezer aisle.
I got there, and picked up a box, and then turned the box around and read the ingredients: and the second item was "Monosodium Glutamate".
Naturally, I put it back. And went up to tell her that it did indeed have MSG. She took an attitude. As if to say, either I shouldn't have asked, I didn't know what I was talking about, and it doesn't matter, why would I care. Another guy who was there when I asked originally grabbed a box, and he said, "Oh, yeah! Here it is... monosodium glutamate..." The sample lady stared at me with pure hatred. I told her, "You OUGHT to know, and if you don't know, you should read the ingredients. I'm not affected by MSG, but my wife is. If you had served that sausage to her, she would have a migraine headache for 2 days! THAT's why I asked."
I didn't report her to a supervisor, but I probably should have. Not to get her in trouble, but to improve their customer service.
She probably didn't know that "MSG" is the same as "Monosodium Glutamate", and she probably didn't know there was monosodium glutamate in the sausage. She was touting it as being "all natural", etc.
Buyer beware.

wvugurl,
I'm in Lowe's all the time. I'm in a small town, and I'm a regular customer, being a landlord, and sometimes house flipper. So, all the employees know me.
They know I'm a frequent repeat customer, so I get pretty good service from them.

People who care about MSG should maybe ask if it has MSG or Mono sodium Glutamate since either could be on the label.
Peanuts aren't nuts they are legumes but if you were allergic to nut/peanuts or anything that can kill you even packed in a facility that packages them can be fatal. I see that listed on products that aren't nuts or related to nuts like chocolate candy since they might pack chocolate covered nuts at the same place. I wouldn't trust a minimum wage sample giver to know much of anything or even be able to read the fine print.

"That is a little different from expecting a clerk to run the length and breadth of the store looking for one weird item."
I did not expect that.

Next time, use a sharpie. It lasts longer.
I'm really tired of people that keep asking incredibly silly questions. If you are too stupid to read the backdrop behind me that states the flight number, city and time, then you probably shouldn't be flying alone. I'm not talking about the person that is asking about a flight 4 hours from now; I'm talking about the person that is taking the flight that's on the backdrop. If I'm just a tad sarcastic in my reply, oh well. The same goes for people that can't get it through their thick skulls that the TSA doesn't give a damn how much you paid for your makeup or lotion or perfume. If it's over 3oz, it's going to get thrown out. You know the effing rules. They've been in effect for years now. Don't ask me to handle your problem with Delta. I don't work for Delta. I can't handle your problem. You're just going to have to pick up your bag and walk to the Delta counter. I've been sworn at for telling someone they need to go to the airline that they booked on. Don't ask me to go and get your freight from another airline. I'm not going to do it and they'd have a fit if I did.
Don't expect me to know every little detail about every rule. The government issues thousands of rules and airlines have nearly as many themselves. If you want to know, you can go to the DOT website or the airline website. I'm not going to take the time to go through all that crap to find you the answer to some esoteric question that you dreamed up on your way to the airport. I don't know, and don't care, what the exact criteria are for determining ontime performance. I don't know how many people are bumped each year. If it interests you, there are plenty of places to find the information.
ETA: I also didn't care when I made twice what I make now. It's a self service world because consumers want it that way. You want all that personal help at Target? Be prepared to pay more for your products. Otherwise, go to Nieman's.

Hey comom, if two airplanes leave for Atlanta at the same time, one is traveling a X speed, the other at Y, how soon will they arrive at the airport?

If I had thought about it, I wouldn't have had kids just because I ***HATE*** word problems with a passion and now that they are in school and get homework, I have to go through it all over again.
