I can't even get her to take a bottle so labeling is probably the least of my concerns.

She'll take it eventually. Gwen didn't want to take a bottle either, she went on a hunger strike at daycare. They stuck with it and eventually she took the bottle without complaint once she understood I wasn't going to be showing up to give her the boob.
She'll be all right for a couple days till she stops resisting, as long as she isn't losing weight you can afford to let her go on a hunger strike for awhile.

Good, I agree, customer service is not what it use to be at all. I gave up on that a long time ago, and I either 1) Go on line and shop or 2) find it myself and don't bother asking anyone.. However, not to say young teens are not helpful ever, I have found myself finding an "more mature" sales person and asking them.. They seem to know.. but the key is finding a store that has the "mature" sales person

Indeed they are. Yes, I've tried everything short of starving her. In hopes of avoiding this scenario- I'd been giving her at least one pumped bottle/week since her birth. She took the bottle just fine the first two months, it's only been this past month she wants nothing to do with it. Now, I'll have to leave it in the hands of some experienced daycare teachers. I bet once she gets the hang of it and learns she can get a lot more volume in less time, she'll want nothing to do with me anymore.

I don't think Swamp is more experienced, I think she is too cheap to give her baby the best.

You're not starving her. I had the same thing go on with Gwen and was in a panic. I talked to my pediatrician about it and he said that letting her go hungry for whatever amount of time she was in daycare is not starving her, she'll be just fine for that short amount of time without milk. Babies are not programmed to be Gandhi, eventually their hunger will override their stubborness.
As long as she is not losing weight and is still producing 3-4 wet diapers on average a day she isn't starving.

I think it's ok for an employee to answer "I don't know" if I ask a question about a product or service. But that should be followed with "Let me get someone that can help you". If they at least try to be helpful, I'm ok with that, even if they turn out to not be much help. The effort counts with me.
I also don't expect random store employees to know every single item the store stocks. If they say "I'm not sure we carry that, but if we do it would be in X area", it's fine with me. If they get someone that's more likely to know, that's even better. The thing that's most likely to ruffle my feathers is a bad attitude.

Don't get suckered into the "it's just like the boob" gimmick either, that is such a crock of crap there is no bottle that is "just like" the real thing. We went thru 3 different bottles before going with Playtex Drop-Ins. Should havelistened to my mom from the start.

I know I'm wasting my money, her future college tuition, I've bought 3 different kinds of bottles all of which have that claim. No more, I'm done trying all the tricks- daycare will have to resolve this for me. Now, I will look for my sharpie and fabric markers. I suppose I should label her clothes as well

Neither of my DC took a bottle. This meant I could never be away from them for more than two hours until they were on solids (both were underweight so the starving thing wasn't an option). I frequently thought about getting a job and putting them in DC just so that the experienced people could get them to take one.

You'll find one eventually. Everyone around me swore by Playtex Drop Ins, but I thought I knew better. I am glad they did not say "I told you so" when I came over with a Playtex Drop In in hand. My daycare recommends labeling clothing but I never have. Isn't rocket science for me to remember what Gwen's clothing looks like and if I bring a diaper bag her clothes are always in there if they get taken off for whatever reason. I never send her in anything I am not willing to lose anyhow. A few socks have gone missing and a onesie disappeared God knows where but it isn't something I worry about.

I didn't cry when I went back to work. Either time. I remember leaving daycare and another Mom was standing next to her car crying like her whole family had been stuffed into a minivan and driven off a cliff. She sniffled out "Does it get easier??" And I remember thinking "I never really thought it was that hard." Then I spent the rest of the day wondering if I'm that much more cold and heartless. Oh well. My kids are fairly normal. (Well, actually surprisingly normal, given their Mom.)

I'm actually excited for her. I thinks she's been getting a little bored with me lately. She loves being around people. As long as they don't stick her in a crib all day and make her sleep, I think it'll be good for her.

My kids loved daycare. They would cry when I would pick them up, but rarely when they were dropped off.

I wouldn't have thought of baby bottles if asked about bottle labels. I would have thought homemade wine bottle labels with pictures of grapes, fancy labels. I might have thought of jar labels and suggested using them if they had canning supplies. I don't think I have even seen a baby bottle the last 20 years so they wouldn't be in my thoughts at all and I have never seen one labeled.
Why wouldn't you just use a mailing label or file folder label, would they wash off too soon?

don't get me wrong - I was sad - but I just didn't cry. It also might have been easier because I knew he was going to be home with DH and then over at my MIL's. I think I would have been more sad if it was daycare for some reason.

Yes, other types of labels would come right off when the bottle is heated or washed. I assume writing on a bottle directly with a sharpie won't come off but I wanted a couple of options just in case.

I cried. Gwen was great, she loves daycare. She barely tosses me a goodbye wave as I leave.

You wanna hear cheap? I brought a permanent marker home from work, labeled everything I needed and then took it back in the next day. ;D Rinse and repeat as needed over the next 4 years.

What are these labels made of that they won't come off in super-hot water? They probably aren't washing the bottles at daycare (neither of my care places did - they just sent dirty bottles home.) So, why is it important if it does wash off? I would wash the bottles at night and re-mark them each morning. I just can't imagine why this is a $8.99 problem. You are falling for the classic "Every Mom needs this" marketing mentality. In reality, no mom needs most of that stuff.

My MIL cans all sorts of stuff. And guess what, she marks them with sharpies.

...:::"But then something new came in without me knowing it and walla! Mistakes do happen.":::...
Like the fact that the word is "voila" (a French word with a pronunciation of "VWah-lah"). But I agree with everything else you said... stores can carry tens of thousands of items, and shelving changes constantly.
...:::"Also, the retail corporate culture is to drill into their associates never to say "I don't know."":::...
This too. I've gotten wrong information from people who command $80/hour, not just $8.00/hour. I'd think that at the higher levels, there is even MORE of a fear to say "I don't know" because it looks like you don't deserve your position.
I give a lot of public presentations, and if I don't know for sure, I will always say "I don't know, but give me a business card with your question on the back, and I'll find the answer".
...:::"I've never heard of such things. I just used a Sharpie. I think I'm a bad mom.":::...
I'll get my kid those things they use at wine tastings that you put on your glass to set it apart. Either that, or a nice rubber strap with a carabiner.

My daycare washes/sterlizes bottles and never had a problem with Sharpie labels. By the time the Sharpie wore off it was second nature to know whose bottle is whose. They have individual cubbies for all the babies anyhow.
