I'm alive but unhappy. Not sure how much longer I'll be here....probably until I let someone stick a needle in me.

Right now, orthopedics, radiology and general surgery are pissed off at me because I am not rolling over and letting them do what they want without answering my questions. The BS games they're playing with me have driven me around the bend, which I thinking is their intention.

Good luck mich. Too bad if they don't like it, you are the one who gets to make the decisions. Their job is to explain the options. I hate arrogant doctors who never got near a class on bedside manner in medical school. My mom works with some like that I don't think they would be in business if they weren't the best at their specialties.

Stand up for yourself Mich. Well, as much as you can right now. Don't give 'em a moment's satisfaction unless they answer your questions.

Right now, my frustration has jumped a log. When the surgeon left my room yesterday, I asked that he call my surgeon in Seattle and if he concurs, schedule my aspiration.
So imagine my surprise when (yet another) surgeon came in early this am and tried to bulldoze a decision. Apparently, I 'misunderstood' our discussion yesterday. I'm getting the feeling that I should be writing up meeting notes because what I remember being said is nothing that was said.
Yesterday, another group of 4 docs came in and started in on my again. I know that they were students, but the ringleader came in all wrong. I watched the faces of the other 3 and one wouldn't even look at me. The woman gave me a look like 'I can't stop this idiot' and the third was trying to get out the door.
Yeah, I am being a pain in the ass to them.

I know you shouldn't have to but can you call the surgeon in Seattle? I agree that he should be consulted. Sounds like the doctors there are morons.

grinchymich1 - maybe change that to grouchymich while your are stuck in resident hell!!!
I think you better start using your phone to email the doc what you are expecting & ask why further docs were sent in to bully you without the Seattle doc consult you requested. You need to copy that to the patient representative at the hospital also (call them asap).
Do you need to come back to Seattle, or can you transfer hospitals where you are if you are not getting proper care?
Best Wishes!!!!

The BS games they're playing with me have driven me around the bend, which I thinking is their intention. When DD1 was in the hospital last weekend, they were pressuring her to take certain meds. They also didn't believe her that she doesn't have a drug habit. All in all she was pretty pissed off at them too. I suppose hospitals are pretty sure patients are just going to roll over and agree with whatever they tell the patient. There needs to be more patients like you and DD that take control of their health care decisions. I hope everything works out the way you need it to!

For those of us in the dark, what is happening to Mich? Last Sun I went to the ER with February, chills and hip pain. I first thought I caught some sort of bug, but with a hip replacement plus fever, it is not good. This is my 4+ year old hip. Long story short (and this is painful to type on my touch), I wound up caught in a turf war with medical students and residents acting like asses and not giving me the answers I was wanting. Well, I did get the hip aspirated and it looks like my prosthesis is contaminated. So my surgical nightmare starts again.

Sorry to hear that I know you've struggled with this. I've seen a lot of bad news about the replacement hips failing lately.

Maybe February is a cute nickname for someone. Sorry to hear about needing a replacement now. That sucks - and especially so close to the holiday.

Awww Mich, that's awful news. I'm so sorry. I even thought of you last night--I got an ULTA coupon in the mail for 20% off your entire purchase! Maybe TD needs to do an ULTA run for you. ;D

Mich - is your implant a DePuy? . No, this is an infection. Not a problem with the prostheses. Joint is collateral damage. Until I got the abcess in the mucle over the hip, it performed flawlessly.
