Ever make one of those phone calls where you just can't seem to get the info you need? I just had one of those - actually, this is the second that I've had in 2 days.
First call it was to the Apple store. I have a first generation iPod Nano that's been recalled due to battery issues. I tried to deal with this online, but Apple doesn't seem to be recognizing my sign in from my account. My thought was 'take it to the Apple store for the exchange'. Uhhh.....nope. After being on hold long enough to make a dent in my cell phone charge, I *finally* got through to a live person. I MUST do it online, but they'll make it 'easier' for me. HA!
Second call, I just got off the phone with the optometry store I get my contacts through. I wear hard gass permeable lenses and think I chipped one. Went to put it in my eye this morning and things were ugly. Very ugly. All was fine when I took them out last night, so figure I caught the edge of the lens on the lid of the case. It doesn't take much to chip HGP lenses.
So I call the clinic and tell them I need a new lens for my right eye. However, at my appointment in June, the first set of lenses that they ordered from me did not work. I had to be retested and a second set ordered. Second set worked, but apparently the optometry store does not have my newest info. I told them that they needed the info from the SECOND set of lenses they ordered from me in 2011, but they only have one set of info. Oh, and BTW.....it'll be $80 for the lens. They'll call the optometrist's office for the new info (I hope). I'm wearing last year's lens now.
At least the phone call I made to my mechanic to bring my car in for an oil change and tire rotation was easy. So there is hope in the world!

On the subject of painful. I was at my Mom's yesterday and was blowing leaves off the driveway. My sister told me to leave the leaf blower out as she wanted to blow the leaves off her new camper. She also has long hair, do you see where this is going? She was holding the leaf blower up to blow off the hood of her truck when her hair drifted into the inlet where the electric motor was (it's not the main air intake for the leaf blower, I think it supplies cooling air for the motor). The next thing I knew she had the leaf blower right up against her head screaming for someone to unplug it.
My Mom went into "The ship is sinking" mode, she doesn't handle stress well and as it was also one month to the day since my stepfather died, she was likely already not in a good place for something like this.
I unplugged the cord and it didn't look good for getting much of her hair out of the leaf blower in one piece, it was NOT going to just pull out. My Mom kept saying "we're going to have to cut off the hair" which was the last choice my sister wanted. Anyway, thanks to my stepfather's pretty well stock tool kit I managed to diassemble the leaf blower into many component parts and got the vast majority of her hair out in one piece. The motor was toast as there was still a fair bit of hair wrapped around its shaft but my sister doesn't have a bald patch so my sister owes my Mom a new leaf blower.

Something like that happened at one of those go kart tracks. The girl was riding and her hair got caught in the motor. Well it did rip a big chunk of her scalp out. I dont understand why people with hair of any length at all dont think about these things.
Glad your sis is ok though.

There was a switch but the way the leaf blower had 'attached' itself beside my sister's head, you couldn't easily get to it but I could get to the plug easily.

Archie, look for a package in the mail. Your mission: reassemble one non-functional leaf blower.

I used to have waist length hair and kept it braided and would tuck it into my coat or shirt around spinning motors of any type. I had my braid get caught on a jump ring on a weight bench when I was in my 20s. I yelled for help but the TV was so loud my kids and SO could not hear me. The next yell was constant so they could hear when there was a pause in the show.

Conversations with my sister. I love her, but she will tell the same story 20 times until something new happens, and then she'll tell that one 20 times. It's always drama, she's always under attack from someone, etc. She'll tell me "soandso said this" and I'll say "I know, I was there when they said that too" but she can't stop saying what that person said, she *has* to talk. So, even if you've heard the same story a dozen times, and you were there when it happened, you can't get her to shorten it or move on. She'll tell it to as many people as she can too, so if you're in a group you'll hear it repeated constantly, and it's never short. Sometimes I get to the point I just leave, I might have something to say or ask, but I can't get a word in, so I give up. And then she makes fun of, or rolls her eyes at, other people who talk a lot.
